Actiony, comedic, short, energetic, fast-paced, and exciting, this series has what it takes to make modern times and sci-fi themes be one as an equal.

Now if we were to emphasize more on Haruko's randomness and tweak into to an almost "earth-threatening" level then we would have The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. As well as that, while FLCL includes a slight romance, TMOHS includes a light-weight harem, but not enough to really get in the way of the story because adventure isn't about love it's about MEETING ALIENS!!!

Both are pretty weird, dealing with pushy, loud leading female characters, aliens, and tons of innuendo. Also a sort of half-love story with it.

Both deal with the banalities or regular life vs. something more fantastic. Both come to similar thematic conclusions even though they go about it through very different means. They both deal with younger protagonists dealing with growing up, and feature a solid cast of well rounded characters that add both to the realism of emotion and suspension of disbelief for the wackier set pieces.

Both have a lot of non-sense, aliens (yuki in suzumiya haruhi, haruko in FLCL) and a crazy girl (haruhi in suzumiya haruhi, haruko in FLCLi) who gets some boy (kyon in suzumiya haruhi, naota in FLCL) in big troubles.

Both protagonists believe that their uneventful, boring lives are perfect until a crazy loud-mouth girl pops into their lives and give their heads a good bashing and drag them unwillingly into bizarre situations.

Both anime are set in somewhat boring, slice of life worlds, but eventually become epic stories with a lot more than high school love on the line (And yes, there's plenty of love to go around in both). Also, both anime are incredibly high-quality and have very nostalgic themes.

Both main characters think that life can't give them anything special until a crazy girl (Haruhi in Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu, Haruko in FLCL) comes to their lives. Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu is more about the "adventures" of the SOS Brigade has, while FLCL is a coming of age story.

Both have a quirky yet likable Female lead, a normie counterpart male lead, lots of great animatation, art and character designs and a focus on the day to day antics as well too.
