As a fantasy reader, I'm often frustrated with fantasy anime that seems only interested in displaying a facade to the genre. Where the entire storyline would be unaffected if the characters and setting took place in a traditional shounen anime. Claymore and Record of Lodoss War are genuine fantasy series that base their structure, narrative, characters, and themes from the heroic fantasy subgenre. They do not share the common characteristics of isekai anime and other similar fantasy anime.
