Basically the same "must kill" setting, one with magical girls, the other one in a school. Major difference is that in danganronpa they have to find the killer.
It was expectable to have some similarities, since they're made by the same studio.

A Black and White Creature forces a group of teenagers to kill one another while acting very cheery about it. also same animation studio
Both have a similar characters, one as the logo for a game, and one as the puppet that's causing all the trouble. Both of these shows are very dark, and everyone is killing each other to survive.

Both of these anime have young adults compete in a killing game where only one can be the "winner". Not only does the mascot character who hosts the killing game have a similar design, but they also use similar tactics to coax the characters into killing each other.
Mahou Shoujo Ikusei Keikaku is a magical girl anime while Danganronpa is a murder mystery anime, but you can still enjoy both of them if the "killing game" idea interests you.
