Onihei and Cowboy Bebop do not fit conventions of a serial (episodic show). Essentially, they both discard the format for normal plots. The score is also very good for both. Onihei has a jazzy score, similar to what you'd expect from Shinichiro Watanabe, or other Western influenced directors. Although they are sequential in timeframe, they seem to drift. The reason why they both seem this way is because a plot is secondary to the tone. Each episode is a pseudo-standalone, with its own premise. Similiar detective noir style and story telling. Each episode is an unique enclosed story, that playfully unwinds character backstory. Even one shot or background characters are developed with a story. The narrative is a good balance between hopeful and realistic, the idea of a gritty world lampshaded by a kind Roguish MC. The fight scenes have good flow to them similiar to Cowboy Bebop. Humour style is gentle and narrative focused, rather than punchline and slapstick focused. The art/animation is good with the aesthetic of a Edo Period Cop drama anime being quite fresh. Jazz soundtracks provide tension at the right moments, similiar to Cowboy Bebop.
