I read your review about "The Horizon" and you pretty much nailed it. Like you said, it also reminded me a lot of "Grave of the fireflies" and the exact same problems I had with that film

Thank you! Really happy you enjoyed the videos, I can't wait to see what Keiichiro Saitou does next. Also I'm seeing some quality taste in your favorites, Biscuit Hammer PEAK.

Good to see that you check marked another classic with Monster. I'm almost exactly the same age of Johan, and thus was in my college years at the time of the story. Watching that show was a bit like a trip into my own past, also because my family has strong GDR connections even when we lived in the West. Btw: Historical correctness of many details of 1990s Germany confirmed, from the way cars looked, hard disks sounded to the real brand Racke Rauchzart (a German Whisky). This immersive world of the show supports the story very well.

Which leads me to two recommendations for Masayuki Kojima. In the "well known" department he directed Monster and everything in the Made in Abyss franchise. I just want to point out his lesser known shows are of the same quality. Hanada Shounen-shi (2002) is his 3rd masterpiece (beside Monster & Abyss), despite its moronic cover. And Master Keaton (1998) is very much the dress rehearsal for Monster, in an episodic format.

Yeah it was pretty good. Season 2? Oh just checked and it's not out over here, doh, will look forward to watching when it eventually lands. And yeah, gay pirates took me a bit by surprise, but it works. Actors for Stede and Blackbeard really sold it.

One of these days, I'd love to learn another language. Just don't have much time these days.

Agreed, love See-Saw's music.

Haven't done the gaming thing in a while, but I'll look into it.

It's cool! Besides, hiragana is very easy to learn. Kanji is undoubtedly the hardest part of Japanese and I can't wait to master enough Chinese characters.

Especially for this old manga with messy furigana. That is, the small vertical hiragana written next to Chinese characters.

Not sure if video games are your thing, but Steam has this Hiragana Battle that some woman told about last month.

As for See-Saw, their music was awesome.
It’s time to ditch the text file.
