Don't worry about being defensive especially in this site haha, sorry if sometimes I'm a bit rude. The forums are wild sometimes especially such days due the amount of peoeple being toxic.
Yeah, YOI was the first popular (Anime at least) mainstream BL I know, I remember most people were crazy about it in 2016 (I wasn't really into Anime until the next year anyways), it wasn't my cup of tea (some of their fandom didn't help either) sadly but I was glad it made the genre more popular. I hardly remember any mainstream BL before YOI. Not really BL but I also appreciate Banana Fish made gay relationships more realistic and tries something different with others genres at the same time. Given was the only mainstream BL which made me cry. I didn't expect much anyways but was so cute and romantic at the time.
Yeah, GL is very targeted towards men is obvious, maybe that's the reason too, I tried to like or tolerate it at least but the lack of relevant males and its a romance between females made it very obvious I can't relate lol. Something similar happened with CGDCT series which sometimes I can't enjoy due lack of male characters, making me not like the genre which in almost all cases are SOL which its worse since I found it very boring even if its supposedly you will like it more when you grow up (ironically, I enjoy the genre when its with boys -like Free!- or they have relevant or known male characters -like maid dragon- or just male mc lol).
So back to BL, yes. That's the reason I'm into BL too. I felt BL authors care much more than GL authors. I know they did something good if they made felt many emotions in a single genre like with others genres I like. BL is the only genre who can make me read manga considering I'm not a manga myself (pretty obvious due my manga count lol). As a fudanshi I enjoy reading BL in any format, either written, visual or animated. You can check Bara if u want, just expect very buff guys which in most cases is exaggerated and there's no plot, its like your average straight hentai but gay and a very specific taste (big muscles, facial hair). The most bara thing I like nowdays is when a bara guy is with a normal one but it isn't that common anyways.
Me too, I wasn't expecting a conversation on MAL about BL too since I'm mostly use Discord for this stuff lol.
Unfortunately, I never watched cardfight vanguard besides some yaoi pics. The banner in my profile just a theme which I like the most when they added the option for first time on MAL (I don't remember when) but I'm planning to watch the entire show along with all spin-off (which I don't know how many are either for the main series or others but since I could watch almost all UC Gundam and series with several seasons +2-cours, I can watch this too) in the future.
