I think the content is more or less perfect with the manga so my ideal would be for them to adapt the storyline completely faithfully. The Herculean task is ensuring that the anime can fully capture the pacing and nuance of the emotions in the manga. There's a very delicate balance between plot progression and introspection, and between the tragedy and romance. It'll be very difficult but I really hope they can do it because it would be absolutely amazing if it was all accomplished. VA choices will be crucial in that respect and I really do hope we get some great actors that can pull off this balance, especially with Kakeru - he's the most complex character of them all and there's a risk they'll portray him as a one-dimensional suicidal character etc. Anyways, I'll try not to think about it; it is after all a long wait.

I'm indescribably excited but that level of excitement is also matched by the same level of scepticism. I think manga is a perfect medium for Orange. The anime is bound to shorten dialogue and I don't know whether they'll strike the right tone the manga did. Artwise, going by the poster, it looks great albeit less detailed than the manga but that's inevitable. Manga art is always better than anime art. All in all, I'm crossing my fingers that this will be a good adaptation. I would hate it if people had bad impressions about the manga because they only saw the anime.

I think Shigatsu suffered from its pre-mature foreshadowing and a severe imbalance between the premise or should I say that "lie in April" and the ramifications of that premise. For a show that placed great emphasis on the character growths of its side characters and fleshing out their struggles and the myriad of ways that brought them together with Kousei, I felt that Kaori's lie was just too simple and unworthy of the story. It stuck out like a sore thumb of a plot device rather than being weaved into the whole plot and being a powerful centrepiece, hence why I feel so bad for Watari because he was essentially downgraded as a plot device for the main characters. He had so much potential much like Tsubaki and the other two piano players. By pre-mature foreshadowing, I think they overstated Kaori's illness, it was too obvious far too early on that she would die and that she had a terrible illness. I still think though that the show is excellent overall. It wasn't really Kaori's impending death or Kousei's abuse that tugged at me, I loved watching these young children with varying goals and aspirations, both in their reach and their source, develop and grow into the people they were at the end - particularly Kousei. It had spectacular visuals and of course music and really convincing VA performances as well. Unfortunately much of Kousei's development did come at the cost of others.

I find that introspective anime whose stories centralise around human emotions an its complexities and impacts are the least appreciated by MAL's user base. I felt the same about Kou in Ao Haru Ride and it's one of my favourite manga just on how well his character was fleshed out. Nothing irritates me more than seeing the usual blind person condemning beautiful shows with excellent characterisation as "melodramatic and tropey" or "cheap way to make you cry" because they're not at all. I think the reason why chapter 19 in Orange or in fact any attempt by any manga or anime to explore negative human emotions are always callously discarded by anime/manga fans because they don't appeal to much of MAL's users who are either looking for the next harem/ecchi or more increasingly nowadays "deep anime" which often tend to be people trying to look like they have "good taste". I don't think people start reading these manga with the correct mindset and don't look into the nuances and the characterisation which in the best manga of the genre are always subtle and subtleness isn't all too appreciated.

It's a shame really but not much can be done about it. It's just refreshing and reassuring to see and interact with people who do because there really is beauty and a genuine emotional impact with manga like Orange that replicate and enhance reality so well. On another note, I've just got to watch Revolutionary Girl Utena considering my love for Mawaru Penguindrum

Saw your message about Orange and I was just glad that there were others who appreciated just how amazing Kakeru's character was explored and his emotions, realistically and viscerally portrayed. It's a shame that so many viewed him as selfish and I feel they really missed out on so much of the story due to this.
