Hey, noticed you finished the Ulquiorra fight. If you're interested, Kubo released a backstory chapter for him afterwards, but the anime never adapted it

I wholeheartedly agree. Though I wish Shigofumi could've taken advantage of the whole "final moments of the dead delivered to the world of the living" more. If they put more time into the characters, this wouldn't be an issue. I didn't feel a lot of attachment towards the characters since they are contrived and dull.

(Shigofumi is less a "1 episode - 1 story" series and more a plot-oriented show, so what's the point of an episode about yuri tennisists or a cat episode? They both look like fillers)

I actually enjoy the story with the tennis player and her mother. The themes prevalent in the mini arcs and overall plot weren't executed equally.
Even though I didn't enjoy it as much as I hoped for, Shigofumi does not hold back on the reality of its subject material. There's also moe but it's not a big issue for me.

My manga list is updated a lot less frequently since I started to actively read manga almost 3 years ago (around when I posted my first review)
So I know which series I've read already.

I also see that you just finished Shigofumi! What made you enjoy it a lot? People compare it to Violent Evergarden since it revolves around letters. Though with Shigofumi, it took a different approach on afterlife message-bearers to add along with some social issues.

Sometimes I multi-task. At other times I would be too lazy to update anything and would do it all at once later on.

There's also anime that I finally found since I first started watching seasonal anime (which was around early 2010). There are still some anime that I haven't put in my list that I've watched. Mostly since I forgot the name of the show since it has been so long. I just recently found Hatsukoi Limited again. (not a good show, but the ed song still hits)

But yea, you won't always see me constantly update my list. There will be a time where I won't update it for 2 weeks.

As a person who need like 2-3 days to watch a 12 episode series (because of my job, housework, other interests, etc), seeing your updates in my freinds list is kinda surreal.

I totally get that. I'm currently a student and working part time. Most of the time I would find avant-garde works, music videos, ova's, etc. In fact, a lot of my entries are from these types of works. (which also explains my low mean score) So it's not as time consuming compared to your normal 12 episode anime. Kentoushi and Mayumi are great examples

The last two paragraphs of your Akudama Drive review pretty much describe my own feelings, it's nice seeing others getting how fun a well made crazy ride can be that still hits the feels without fillers.

I get ya, there are some good fillers out there. I would just recommend putting them all off till you finish the Arrancar arc though since they usually break the intended pacing
Sir-C Oct 10, 2023 12:19 PM
As a heads up you're on the worst Bleach filler arc right now. Better off skipping to 110

Yeah, anime Frieren is more adorable and charming than the manga one.

I wanted to give AI no Idenshi a try but its trailer was so cheap-looking that I deleted it from my PTW. Guess it was the right idea :D

Good. You'll be wasting 4 hours of your time.

Overall Madhouse is probably the most unique studio that never afraid to experiment with different genres and ideas.

I wholeheartedly agree especially if you look at works such as Mononoke and Perfect Blue.
ZechAnimanga Sep 30, 2023 7:52 PM
I will say though, they made Frieren more endearing in the anime compared to the manga.
She's more adorable.
ZechAnimanga Sep 30, 2023 10:35 AM
But I agree, episodes 2-4 are definitely better than the first episode imho.
ZechAnimanga Sep 30, 2023 10:29 AM
I'm enjoying it more than the manga tbh. Production wise and the directing of it. Such as the flashback when Eisen had of what Frieren said to him back then about the insignificance of relationships was a really good juxtaposition with the present. They do a good job with the transitions which is super important for a show like Frieren. Visual and sound directing is superb as well.

That being said, as I mentioned before, I'm not a fan of the beginning. If it had slower/realistic pacing, it could've gave the audience a much more resonating effect. We didn't get to know these guys more. It just feels superficial. The best part for everyone is the worst for me lol. I want to like the series more, but I'm genuinely enjoying it for what it is.

Madhouse never died :P
I don't think any studio has ever done a variety of series as much as Madhouse with good audiovisuals. Whether it'd be SoL, historical, action, romance, etc. We don't talk about AI no Idenshi tho...

I highly recommend Ever17, it has one of the most mind blowing plot twists that I've ever read (I can compare it only with The Sixth Sense twist), but the middle part of it is kinda boring, so you should be patient.

It seems like I have been recommended Ever17 every time I ask for recommendations so I'll definitely check it out. People have told me the prologue is really well paced and succeeded in hooking the audience. With multiple routes that can be tackled in any order, and after you complete all of them, you unlock the true end. Basically, you get rewarded for staying.

Also Chaos;Child or Chaos;Head Noah (you can read the one without the other) might be good if you've enjoyed Steins;Gate. Not sure that you'll like it so much because it's better to read it completely blind (and you watched C;C anime adaptation so you've already spoiled plot twists to yourself), but why not.

Yea it's been a fat min since I have seen Chaos;Head. I remember disliking it a lot. But I forgot a lot of shit from it. Not only I didn't enjoy it but it's been 13 years since I last watched it. But I'll be sure to check it out if it's better than the anime.

Also I can recommend Shizuku no Oto (I recommend it to anyone, don't mind), it's short and should be enjoyable if you like "lots of choices and tons of bad endings" system.

Added to my wishlist.

And please, don't read Muv-Luv Alternative without the first part. Yeah, original Muv-Luv is your 4/10 generic harem novel about a dude who helps different girls, but skipping it just because Alternative has 9/10 rating is pointless and you simply won't understand it. It's like watching Clannad AS without Clannad, but much worse.

I thought it was the first entry of the muv-luv series. I was just looking for visual novels to buy on Steam. I put the game on-hold since someone else already told me it was the sequel. I'll play alternative until I get my hands on the prequel. I didn't play it because of the rating but rather, you see alternative anime (with animanga), they're different versions rather than sequels.

Yo, I see you're into visual novels. I just made my own visual novel list. vndb
Do you have any recommendations? I'm new to this medium.
