hello there ^^
HunterTennouji Feb 4, 2014 1:11 PM
It's a novel. The author is Arashi Leonhart. He has a number of great stories that takes place in a post-Fate/stay night setting, though I suggest you begin with Escaping Fate and see if it merits further reading. I agree that reading a real book is much more comfortable, but, subjectively, I believe Arashi's works are true gems. It's actually due to his works that I even began liking Shirou.
Actually, I have already read the light novels that SAO is based on, though I dropped the recent arc. I can tell you that I look forward to this coming arc the most, since it's the one I enjoy the most, since it has more mature and darker tone in contrast to the lighthearted one in AFO. While you might be dissapointed by the Fairy Dance arc, you really should watch the coming season, with the Phantom Bullet arc.
Just looked it up, just the fact that Kana Hanazawa is a seiyuu piques my interest. Now I just have to find where I can watch it.

Needless to say, I am squealing with delight ^^. I believe in ufotable, but details are too vague (some say it's Heaven's Feel of the VN, some say it's an entirely new story) so it's hard to say what will turn out.
I do hope that they make Emiya Shirou's characterization better, so that he isn't an entirely dumb idiot like in the original anime. I believe I have mentioned it before, but I like Shirou because of who he can be. I am actually reading fanfictions by a certain author, who is great at depicting Shirou while giving him some levels of badassery. Should you ever be interested in the author, do tell me.
Talking about other anime released this year, second season of SAO will also be out. Looking forward to it?

What I can praise about the series is that they have a beautiful animation, which gives some really, really nice action scenes, and the soundtrack is great. However, the story is convoluted and half-baked, with alot of loose threads. There are some interesting characters, so you will have a few favorites, and the voice acting is good.
I gave it a relativerly high score (7) due to the MC receiving some character development in the direction that I like. However, thinking back, it seems somewhat rushed. Overall, I have mixed feelings about it. While I can say I enjoyed it, Guilty Crown had potential to be far better.

On another note, have you heard about the new Fate/stay Night anime?
HunterTennouji Feb 2, 2014 6:17 AM
Luckily, I managed to finish some anime, such as Psycho-Pass and Guilty Crown. Both I thoroughly enjoyed (the former more than the latter). For now, I try watching the anime I am following. I play more video games now during my spare time (due to receiving tons during Christmas). How about you? Any anime that fancied you?
HunterTennouji Feb 1, 2014 2:25 PM
Howdy there. Nothing much actually. I've been quite busy so I haven't been able to watch that much anime. How about you?
HunterTennouji Jan 4, 2014 10:16 AM
Actually, I do mind ecchi, since well, it gets uncomfortable watching it. Thanks for the suggestions though. I think I am going to pick something non-mecha, since I already have Guilty Crown. Well, I hope the new year finds you well and that your new semester isn't too tough on you. Have fun time watching anime!
HunterTennouji Jan 4, 2014 5:28 AM
Thanks for that :) I had the same principle, since the wait is excruciating. Then Attack On Titan happened and since then I have been following some anime shows. So far, I have been adding mostly typical shonen anime (with high school characters and amounts of cheezy action scenes) such as Hamatora and Magical Warfare. I do want to start some older anime though. So far I am planning on two romance and two action. I have decided on the romance ones and one of the actions (Guilty Crown for some reason, don't remember why). Is there any anime with action that you would recommend?

It was a confusing series, but the characters were likable, so I didn't mind. The first half was more slice of life and the penguins were used as comic relief throughout. The penguindrum is the "apple", which basically represents love. To share the "fruit of fate" with someone, which is a recurring phrase used by many of the characters, means to give them your love (not necessarily in a romantic way) and share the burden of living in such a harsh world. And the child broiler represents children who are unloved and who have been forgotten. When Shouma rescues Himari from the child broiler and shares his apple with her (also in the flashback when Kanba finds an apple in his box and shares it with Shouma), this symbolizes their decision to become a family and face life's hardships together. It's very abstract, but I think the series is trying to say that through love, even fate can be altered. Himari was fated to die by the curse placed on her family, but through Kanba's sacrifice, her fate was rewritten. As for Shouma, he gave up his life because he loved Ringo. I interpreted "finding the penguindrum" as "finding the strength to love someone so much that you're willing to give up your life for them". Both Kanba and Shouma obtained the penguindrum in the end. There are many more layers of metaphors and symbolism on top of this, but I think this is the basic idea of the series.

Oh cool. If you don't mind me asking, where do you live?

My Christmas was alright. I went out of the country for a week with my family.
HunterTennouji Jan 3, 2014 5:49 AM
Yes, I finished my exams before Christmas with fairly good results, so I am satisfied. Since I got good results, I don't have to do redo any exams and as such gets an extended vacation (in college in Sweden, the first period of each semsester is dedicated for re-exams). So I have about two weeks before starting again, plenty of time to rest up and wrap up out-of-school work. More importantly (maybe :p) I was able to finish some anime shows and plans to start some new ones. This winter does offer some good new shows don't you think?

Hey there, and happy holidays to you as well! My exams went pretty well.

As for Mawaru Penguindrum, this post I made on the discussion board sums up my thoughts:

"A story about the power of love at heart (how love can overcome anything, even fate), but told in a creative albeit ambiguous and convoluted fashion. Excessive use of metaphors and symbolism gives rise for high rewatch value, but I felt that TOO much of the story was left to the reader to decipher. Also, I'm not sure I agree with how the series relied heavily on flashbacks to reveal important plot points. They made the show jump all over the place and were quite detrimental to the pacing. Penguindrum had plenty of complex and memorable characters with whom one can easily connect; in fact, while I knew it would be unfitting, I secretly wished for a happy ending for everyone. Gorgeous visuals that are fitting of a show so heavily dependent on symbolism. The soundtrack was beautiful as well and I can think of at least 3 or 4 songs that will remain in my head for months to come (two of which are the openings).

Overall, Penguindrum had a profound story with powerful themes and a strong cast. However, I can completely understand people who criticize the series for being too convoluted and, for the lack of a better word, pretentious. This is a series that is nearly impossible to understand fully without either multiple viewings or the aid of people who have deciphered it themselves. Nevertheless, it definitely deserves the praise it has received and has earned a spot on my favourites list.

8/10"

So how was your Christmas/New Year's?
HunterTennouji Dec 27, 2013 1:09 PM
Hi there, how have you been doing? I hope you have a splendid continued holiday. I myself is taking a much needed rest from my studies by spending time with family and friends. I also had time to finish some anime as well :)
Yuna Dec 10, 2013 10:06 PM
Thanks! :P
Yuna Dec 9, 2013 8:18 PM
Sure, I'd be glad to do that!

But after I finish exams. P: We can chat and whatnot then!
