Why do you hate everything that I love Jonah? WHY?!?

A fair amount; but only that which I stumble upon. I specialise in Japanese Animation; admitting the weaknesses that it has it's mostly cultural appreciation. I have a friend who is a keen animator, I think he spurred on my interest in animation in general. I've seen some of svankmajer's work, but not reiniger's. I shall check it out :3

when you say other countries, you mean particular styles? i know russia and poland are very strong on stop animation, cut out animation, doll animation, and shadow animation.

Interesting reviews on the Chinese Monkey films. What made you interested in watching them may I ask?
I was actually planning on reviewing them myself.

Cool, thanks for the recommendations! I found Paprika & Fantastic Planet. Both of those sound like they're up my alley. I'll probably end up watching Dead Leaves later. On the topic of dream logic, did you ever see Waking Life by Linklater? It's rotoscoped like A Scanner Darkly and quite interesting. It definitely has that unhinged dream quality to it and was really affecting, at least for me. YMMV, but I'd say it's worth a watch.

Angel's Egg is definitely one of those films that plants itself in your head and makes you reach for interpretations. I'm glad my reading made some sense...

The film uses biblical tropes in really alienating ways, I think, mostly as a post-apocalyptic framework rather than a definite religious commentary or narrative. I hesitated to bring up some of the parallels because people start to get lost in the religious iconography and attach too many extraneous or self-reinforcing meanings to it. But then again, the story is so ambiguous that it really begs to be filled in with imaginative readings.

Looks like you finished Cat Soup recently as well. Is there anything else in this vein that you would recommend? I've really fallen off of the anime wagon for awhile and just jumped into Steins;gate recently, which seems clever, but I miss the straight up weird, dissociative anime.

A 7 ?!?! I thought you loved it.

Haha, Well Im glad you are enjoying it. It only gets weirder from where you are at. Episode 5 is probably my favorite and possibly the strangest.

FLCL 0_o?

You must be getting desperate for something new to watch. haha

You are almost there. I would be truly impressed if it had the first two qualifications AND wasnt a Ghibli film ;)

OH and add cowboy bebop. A bit older but legendary.
It’s time to ditch the text file.
