That's a valid point. Sorry for the extremely late reply, I honestly hadn't noticed this comment till just now. Now that you've pointed it out I can see what you mean, the lack of characterization for everyone else almost makes sense with that viewpoint.

I'm glad my comment made you laugh, I probably would've been upset if someone did the same to something I liked even if they were right about it's flaws. But thanks, I've gotten a new perspective on it and even though I still don't like Subaru I can appreciate it a lot more than before.

I managed to finish Danganronpa last month :). The mystery wasn't the best but the fun more than made up for it! I know it's pointless unlocking all the extras at this point since most of them can be found online but I have this compulsion to complete most of the games I play 100% with max scores, max stats etc for that perfect save file lol. I know I can probably download a perfect save file somewhere but I still feel like I have to complete it myself to be satisfied orz.

Thanks for sharing a few of your family's experiences ^^ I find these kinds of first-hand accounts very interesting but I rarely get the chance to hear about them.

I'm hoping for a prequel or sidestory for Psycho-Pass because I don't want to see the possibility you mentioned as well T_T. For me psychology and the hard sciences are pretty much on the same level since they both just rely on rigorously tested evidence that points to a certain conclusion and can't really be proven conclusively unlike math. The only thing is that it's newer as you said, but I really hope psychology gains the same amount of respect as the hard sciences in the future! I've always wondered what the world would be like if the development of science concentrated on the mental instead of the physical ^^. The stuff you mentioned about fear are the things I'm most interested in!

I plan to marathon Moribito sometime; I heard that the anime was more fleshed out than the book (is this true?) so I plan to watch it first and then read the sequel, though I found out that they stopped translating after the second book :( . I feel for you...nothing is worse than liking a show or a pairing that has a small fanbase—it's like having this need that goes unsatisfied unless you vent it all out somewhere, maybe into fanart or fanfiction lol, which is still less satisfying than stumbling across someone else's work imo...and then you have people complaining about shows getting too popular and having too much fanwork SMH.

The whole history and that blurb on All Rounder was pretty interesting. I didn't know about the lack of furigana in josei/seinen, but it makes sense now that I think about it! I find the demographic categories useful for remembering titles, beyond that I have to agree that they bear little relevance to the quality and themes. Actually I was quite surprised to see stuff here on MAL like: only the target audience can appreciate the works in a specific demographic, or, I don't read/will never read this demographic (usually shoujo or josei). And then there's the impression that seinen works are more mature and have deeper themes. It kind of reminds me of how books are categorized and how just because it's a Classic it's automatically considered intellectual/well-written, and if it's for Young Adults or Children it's held to a lower standard somehow :p.

I've only seen FMA so far but for me, my favorites were Ed, Winry and Hughes! I've been wanting to start on Brotherhood and LOGH, but when I look at the episode count I lose heart T▽T. Recently work and school have gotten me to a point where I barely have time for anything else (not even sleep sometimes orz). I was looking forward to wrapping up the previous season and following Kill La Kill too! Everything might have to be postponed until summer, til then I have to apologize if my replies take weeks or even months. (I won't mind if your replies take ages either since you might also be in the same situation lol.)

How was FMA for you btw?

I never thought of shipping Rackage with Pinion before XD but it makes sense now that I think about it (I just did a quick search and didn't expect all the djs to be about Bellows either...) I thought Gargantia had a lot of potential too for the same reasons but then I watched a few episodes of Fate/Zero and Phantom a while ago but put them on hold, though based on what you said I probably won't be picking them back up anytime soon lol. I've liked most of Clamp's works so far so I'm more curious about Madoka now. Now I'm also wondering if Urobuchi had full reign over his original works or if they also had to be modified to some extent and if that was affecting his writing. On another note, I watched the first 2 episodes of Saraiya Goyou recently and I'm liking it so far~ The characters and their interaction are all very interesting and there's so much atmosphere in the art and music. It was very relaxing–like getting my brain massaged in a zen garden with funky music playing in the background haha.

The Sparrow probably won't be in my hands until next month =_=, in the meantime I've been using up much of my free time playing Danganronpa, to the detriment of everything else including MAL haha...

WAITAMINUTE so for LOGH are you saying that the person this Reinhard will fall for might be his BFF...and that 'playing house' might involve some 'swordfighting' in space?? *dying* (I realize that AlexanderXHephaestion hasn't been proven canon but c'mon, it's totally within the realm of possibility ≖‿≖)

I've read Harem de Hitori and felt the same way. I think I've read two more of her other yaoi works and the uke there also seem to act and look more like young girls lol. Btw, have you also read Angela Carter's The Bloody Chamber? It gave me the same type of feeling as Yumemiru Koto （*´▽｀*）

I'm liking Yumemiru Koto more than Otome Youkai Zakuro or her yaoi works so it's a pity that it's on haitus :(. I only know a general overview of Alex the Great's exploits...though I don't remember him going out of his way to play house with any his lovers LOL. I'll be checking out the sidestory first as suggested!

I read Death Note back when it was ongoing and stopped sometime after but I enjoyed the over the top mindgames while it lasted, although I agree about Light being unlikable. I think I would've liked him better if he had cut the BS about justice and just admitted that he was in it for the power, but I guess that's what makes him interesting. It's not everyday that we get a protagonist this villainous after all! My favorite part about him was that everytime he accomplished something superbly evil, he would turn to the side and make this 'evil face' for audience HAHAHA.

I didn't know Ookiku Furikabutte had an anime! I've only ever seen the cover of the manga so I didn't know it had messy art either lol. I like how unpredictable Husk of Eden is, but you're right about the tragic part

I haven't seen LOGH yet but you make it sound like Deathnote XD. Would you still recommend it despite it's shortcomings? Haven't seen City Without Baseball either but since you mentioned manservice I am curious now, very curious.

There's a lot of overacting in Asian dramas in general so it was interesting to see your reaction! I think I've gotten so used to it that I'm almost immune =_=. I guess taiga dramas are soap operas in a sense, in terms of length. I don't know how they compare to Brazilian ones, but the Mexican soaps I've seen typically involve some permutation of poor girl/rich boy romance, with extended family members as the supporting cast. The melodrama is also drawn out in the most ridiculous ways possible, from prolonged sobbing to underhanded rivalry and face to face slandering that typically progress to some vicious hair pulling over the lead guy. Hahahaha good times...

You should see some of the threads being created on Free =_=, at least this one on SnK was an isolated incident... Here's a summary of what I've seen there so far: People who can't tell the difference between actual BL and subtext, people who can't tell the difference between simple comparison and an attempt to point out idiocy/hypocrisy, people who can't tell the difference between disliking yaoi and actual homophobia, and the word fujoshit being thrown around carelessly without even knowing its meaning or the true gender of its recipient.

I should probably just nix subtlety and sarcasm when posting there, since a lot of people (especially the ones it's directed at) can't seem to tell :/

It's funny that you mentioned Legal High since the male lead there played Arikito in the Ooku live action ^^ How was Legal High btw? Would you recommend it? Other than Ooku I haven't really seen much Japanese historicals since taiga dramas tend to be long-running (about 50, hour long, episodes I think?) but Yae no Sakura looks interesting and is on my PTW.
The ones I've seen so far and that stood out was:

Gegege no Nyobo – Showa period, based on the autobiography of the wife of Gegege no Kitaro's mangaka, Mizuki Shigeru, each episode is 15 mins.

Yoji Yamada's samurai trilogy: The Twilight Samurai, The Hidden Blade, Love and Honor – they're all standalone movies and set in different time periods (Meiji and Edo)

I guess you can already tell that most of what I watch are mysteries hehehe. For mysteries, I'd recommend:

Ryuusei no Gemini – best one I've watched so far. It had a very well constructed mystery/revenge/family drama plot. The mystery was airtight; I couldn't find any plot holes.

Kagi no Kakatta Heya – by the author of SSY, episodic in nature, the mysteries vary in quality with episode 6 and 7 in particular standing out. I still think that SSY was the superior work, but the security trivia and the main protagonist here were quite interesting.

The ones that fit your tastes exactly are Chinese instead of Japanese, so I'm not sure if you'd be interested in them, but I'll mention them just in case:

Startling by Each Step – brilliant political maneuvering. The female protagonist, romance, and the historical aspects were also very well done.

A World Without Thieves – movie, thought provoking, touching, has good cinematography too. It's the kind of clever you're looking for...or at least I think so haha. I'm planning to slowly watch through the stuff on your favorites to get a better idea of what you mean by clever, I'm not 100% sure I've got it yet.

Wait, I just remembered a Japanese movie that might fit your criteria for clever: Departures (the music here was done by Joe Hisashi)

lol I thought it was just me who thought that only 2 guys and a lady were voicing all the characters in Yami Shibai. The old guy's voice in particular was very distinctive. I was curious about the VA, but the site hasn't listed them down yet.

I haven't read Ookiku Furikabutte yet, but from your description it seems like my type of thing :). Actually I haven't watched the latest episodes of the currently airing shows yet either. I have a huge project due at the first week of August so I've been neglecting everything else recently, but I'll be checking them out as soon as all the craziness dies down!

We're following the same shows then, just with one or two more for me haha. I'm liking the second episodes too. I had to struggle through Blood Lad though, maybe because I'm also watching Hunter X Hunter...beside it, it really feels like subpar shounen, even though it's probably not. About Yami Shibai, I left a comment about its animation on the forums. I really like how they're doing it <3

If you liked Lonely Wolf, Lonely Sheep, then I think you'll like Mermaid Line (the first story). Personally I love works like Rakuen no Jouken and its semi-sequel Azure Dream but I'm not sure if you'll like that type. Either way, all three are positive yuri manga :)

Webtoons have a unique format for sure. It makes me wonder if all comics will eventually end up this way, once everyone goes digital and hardcopies are faced out. Where do you usually read comics? I don't think it was such a huge jump for me because I always use a browser lol.

I just watched ep 2 of Gatchaman, and I'm positive now that I'll be following it to the end! It just shot up to number 2 right after Uchouten Kazoku. The most interesting part for me was the use of GALAX, because it's something that can easily happen in the near future. Hajime reminded me of Shoko from Valvrave for a second with the cooking, but Hajime definitely is the better character. She's already more developed than Shoko ever was in 12 episodes, and she still has room for growth – I really liked the way they fleshed her out <3 At the end I was even thinking: this is how main leads should be like! The chemistry between the characters was also more apparent in this episode; I'm especially looking forward to how Hajime will be interacting with Joe.

Don't want to spoil the ending, but it was the angst and death for once that turned Blood C from so-so to very good for me ;).

I'm also up to volume 3 in Yuureitou. A lot of what I put under on hold are just stuff that I plan to reread ^^

There's actually a lot of works about lesbians with a healthy outlook on life! ...Or at least there are in modern works, I have to agree that the older works are really depressing lol. I think you're also right that there's very little yuri, especially mature ones, that are set in pre-modern Japan :(

I've seen Cheese in the Trap around but didn't know it was a mystery (I thought it was like a romcom SOL from the cover), but if you think it's good then I'll go take a look at it! By difficult to read format do you mean the webtoon format?

LOL I've never thought of chevaliers as butlers before, but now that you mention it they are kind of like butlers aren't they, except that they're also used for NTR purposes. I was a fan of the original Blood too, so I was disappointed for the same reason. I could have forgiven it if it had left off the melodrama though. I think part of the reason why I liked Blood C was because it was closer to the original Saya and because it brought back the yuri elements that was in the original Blood manga as well, so I'm kind of sad that it gets more flack than Blood+, especially here on MAL.

I'm rooting for the barbarian guy in Joou no Hana too <3. The Taisho and Showa eras are actually the time periods I'm most interested in, but manga and anime seem to focus more on the earlier periods :(

About Yuureitou, I'm loving it so far :). It's the only other manga other than SnK that's keeping me up at night hahaha. Tetsuo might just be one of my favorite characters in manga <3 Overall, it kind of reminds me of Monster. I really like how the author is building up the mystery in a way where you feel like you're getting further and further away when you're actually nearing the truth. There's a lot of things I've been wondering about but had no one to discuss with, such as:
