That's actually a good suggestion. In your case, I'm more or less the same. I have some manga series that I haven't even touched for 4 long years! 😵 (There are too many to count.) Seems like a bit of an overload, but that's reality. In those cases, they're either just "dropped" or "on hold" on my MAL profile. Thank you for your kind words. I do need some time to step away from anime/manga cause it drained my mind / my life up to a certain point (watching anime up to 2:00 a.m. back in late November 2021 anime season is NOT healthy. I used to do this, but, not anymore.) 😖
Well, I'm still in the early chapters. So, I can't wait to continue reading Frieren (Volume 3). I was busy this weekend (had to reorganize the clothes in my closet); that's why, I just accessed MAL today so I can keep track of the chapters/volumes when I continue reading the Frieren series tonight.
Anyway, that's cool that you now have three manga series in your possession. I'm glad that you already bought the official Frieren manga volumes! It supports the creators. 😃 May I ask what the other two manga series in your possession are? I'm curious.
I only collect the physical manga volumes of Oshi no Ko. For now, this is the only manga series I'm interested in collecting. Building my very own personal manga collection is sacred to me. If I'm not serious in re-reading the series decades down the road (or, several years from today), why bother? Manga collecting is an expensive hobby even if I buy dirt-cheap volumes of series that I love from used manga stores (online or in-store).
To be honest, I'm actually VERY AFRAID of splurging my money on several manga series collection (as I'm already an art & crafts collector).
From late Nov 2022 to late Nov 2023, I spent more than US $2,200 (or, more than CAD $2,900) just on aesthetic Korean/Japanese stationery. US $2,200+ (or, CAD $2,900) are my approximate six week's wages from my day-to-day ordinary clerical desk job.
Arts & Crafts collecting became an addiction: constantly purchasing journals, stamps, stickers, notebooks, pencil cases, and a variety of arts & crafts supplies online (from various online stores internationally and domestically).
I promised myself to stop purchasing expensive stationery this 2024. Let's hope I can keep the streak up (holding back for four months has already been sooo hard 😵💫😣). I need to make it up to a year to complete a "streak" of one year of "no expensive stationeries". I hope I can make it.
My expenditures on Arts & Crafts stationery is stopping me to collect more volumes of other beloved manga series. That's why, for now, I'm just gonna stick with collecting the Oshi no Ko series. I need to budget my money anyway for other needs: food, shelter, clothes, water & electrical utilities, mortgage, property taxes, cellphone bills, etc.
Being an adult is not fun. But, it's inevitable. When I was kid (a child, then a teenager, then a young adult), I was just playing around, fooling around, enjoying the anime I watch / enjoying the manga series I'm reading. As an adult, most of the responsibilities are on my shoulder.
And mind you: I don't even have a family of my own yet. I'm just a grown adult with an ordinary clerical desk job living in my folks' home, helping my parents pay the bills, sharing the roof with them over my head, eating healthy food (mostly cooked) by my family members, etc.
I am foreiting family life / having children of my own / having a husband of my own (maybe, forever). It's not because it's expensive (to have a family of your own). But, it's because I am not independent. Rather, I'm still clinging or dependent to my folks. And that could be a bad thing because I lack so many life skills to be independent. I can prepare food on my own and for myself, but I mostly microwave (and that's not always healthy).
I drive the family vehicle, but I just recently successfully passed the vehicle road test (and acquired a legitimate driver's licnse) of our municipality. Even if I do not need vehicle supervision anymore, I am still a novice driver.
So, you see, there's still a lot more for me to learn even as a 33-year old adult. I feel deficient, to be honest. Also, prioritizing real-life is one of the reasons my interest on anime/manga dwindled up to only 10% anymore. I don't love anime/manga as much as I used to (up to 90% love). Rather, I do what I can. I watch what I can. And, I read what I can. 😊
Also, I don't play video games. I used to play one Super Mario video game back in the late 90s (around 1998); but, that was when I was only 7-years-old.
With most MAL users I've come to know in the recent years, many kids nowadays ADORE the thrill and excitement that video games offer (whether online, or in their playstations). Moreover, as a 30-something year old adult, I do not know what's trending anymore on the video game entertainment world. I have heard of brands like Super Nintendo, PlayStation, XBox, etc. I've seen such brands in stores. But, I lack the knowledge of what they do, the value of those brands, etc.
So, I'm not in that age anymore to be interested in other "side merchandise" of anime/manga. When it comes to this form of entertainment merchandise-wise (anime/manga), I stick to what I know: plushies, figurines, the physical volumes of the manga, stickers stationery, Spotify anime playlists, anime/manga posters, etc.
Also, last year, when I attended an anime convention in our city (a city that has about 777,000+ population in it), I spent about USD $530 (or, about CAD $700) just for anime posters. I thought my keen interest in anime dwindled at that time. Apparently not. Around Summer 2023, I still adore or love anime/manga about 80% or so... And then, my interest in it dwindled again (a little bit) cause real life is calling me.
To sum it up, my love for anime/manga fluctuates from time to time. No matter how much I love the medium, I need to take care of my life as well. 😊
Regarding Frieren, I'm glad this manga series was recommended to me. I've seen Frieren anime top MAL rankings (Currently Airingcategory) when it was still starting. But, around Fall 2023, I was still on hiatus from anime/manga. So, I didn't even bother to touch Frieren until my co-worker highly suggested it to me two weeks ago. Now, I'm trying to catch up to the manga series beause I want to know so badly, "Whatever made Frieren so likeable in the eyes of its audience?" Anyway, I hope to know the answer when I catch up to the manga. And, I'll read slowly if need be (thanks for your update on the Frieren hiatuses). I didn't know those even occurred on a weekly Shōnen Sunday manga series such as this.
Yeah i've noticed the sticking the butt out from bushes and stuff too. Yeah i agree many shows lacks in writing even the good ones, but they are cute anime girls so i pretend to not see it lol. I'll read the manga soon, i really want to read it but i'll wait until the anime finishes.
Yeah i get what you are saying but in anime isn't it a fact that they love reuse tropes even in good shows, i see it all the time and at this point i feel like it's a given with all the shows that come out these days. It's not easy to find a show that doesn't repeat stuff. I personally like when the character has a problem and develops, changing things for the better or worse, just that something new always happens to their personality or actions. Otherwise it's just a bore tbh. Oh yeah i remebered kraft from the lodge they were in, he was honestly badass. When it comes to Frieren i feel like she's mostly aloof when it comes to things from the past, she just doesnt keep up with everything, only things that matter to her personally or had an impact on her. However im curious about the other mages as well, like i mentioned earlier, it's kinda cool how nobody is able to defeat Frieren even though she looks like she would be weak.
Yeah everyone to their own but for me this show is amazing and some people like stuff i don't that's just natural, but i haven't heard like bad things from people as much i do for other shows. That's why i mentioned it, the show is suprisingly postive as well.
Im a sucker for Fern and her pouty faces, reactions and how she acts like their mother in a way. Which is funny to me, i get that it can be repetitive for others but i like it . Yeah some of the other mages are cool especially the old guy who threw hands and Ubel is eerie too. I find it funny that there is so much german influence in the names of the characters.
