I probably should have considered that, but I'm not too disappointed with the jokes they used in Nisekoi and, like you said, the language differences probably played a part. I just didn't like the re-use of quite a few jokes, as opposed to something different.

Good point. I am posting in MAL so I never really intended to consider the Japanese audience, it's mostly catering to more western viewers. I should rephrase it because it does seem vague what the word 'audience' is addressing. Thanks.

[spoiler]The Slice of Life Club will be hosting a Cute Competition for the next seven weeks. It's pretty much going to be the same thing as our Moe Competition, except for the fact that characters from overly popular series weren't allowed in the contest (since they always win). It's time to give other cute girls a chance to shine. There are four different groups with 32 girls in each group. One girl from each group will go on as a finalist to face off against each other in two championship rounds. Oh, well.

I guess much depends on personal taste. Don't get me wrong, I'm aware that fanservice is, how you put it, "an integral part of Japanese Otaku culture". That said, I, simply and personally, don't enjoy it much, especially when it's used to compensate for the lack of an actual plot. Again, as I've clearly stated in the review, it's just my personal opinion and eventually, merely a matter of preferences.

I'll read the novels, probably the first four, so which I think is season 1. It will probably take me until Sundays, Monday and if my opinion changed I'll edit it and say it's because of the director, and Kirino is actually a really cool and interesting character. If it doesn't I'll probably go into a more in depth debate with you.

Yeah, I haven't read the novel, but that was a review for he anime, not the novel. If I used the novel as reference to write a review for the anime it would be a review for the novel not the anime. Though if your telling me to just read the novel. I'll give it a shot.
