Hello! I saw your comment on Chapter 2 of Pandora Hearts in the PH forum, and after checking your page I saw that you dropped it, so I figured I would answer your questions about the series here, rather than in the forum, which you might not check again.

I don't know how old you are, but I am a 22 year old female who started reading PH about four or so years ago (so around the age of 18, when I had just entered college).

The series does take a while to get moving, most people did not get "caught" by it until around Chapter 30. The characters also come off as generic at first; Alice as the Tsundere Girl, Oz as the Genki/Keet Male Lead, and so on and so forth. But, then the creator, Jun Mochizuki, takes these character types and deconstructions them, only to reconstruction them towards the end of the series (where the series is currently at now).

The plot, as I mentioned, is a bit slow moving at first, because it is very jigsaw puzzle in nature. The answers come slowly, but surely, and in a manner that allows for great character development as well as wonderful and truly unexpected (though not unplanned) plot twists. What I mean by that, is that the plot twists are properly foreshadowed and hinted at, and not simply ass pulls. The plot is also more central than other series, all of the arcs are interconnected and they all go back to one central event, so they are less "individual." You cannot pick up this manga and start reading from a random point in it and understand what is going on, it is very complex and focuses greatly on details.

Finally, the artwork also greatly improves (as is the case with most longer running manga series, or should be, anyway). And the other is very aware of how her characters should not only look, but also act (the notes she has on all of them are really great!).

All of this may not appeal to you, so the series as a whole may not appeal to you, but I just wanted to explain why many manga readers adore this series (it is not one that can be easily predicted and the themes are varied and great) and why it is in the top 30 manga list. :)
