I see you were back on MAL a few months ago. I know it's been a long time, but I hope you're doing well.

I currently work at a government department and my new job will also be at a (different) government department. I will be helping to design/implement new standards for how the government collects data on its programs, so they can better measure which programs are working and which aren't. For example, there might be a program about bringing internet access to remote communities, or about creating high tech manufacturing jobs in a particular area, and we would help ensure that we have the data to say X number of people got internet access through this program, or X number of new jobs were created through this program. That information then informs whether those programs should be kept, cancelled, and so on. Hopefully that makes sense.

Good luck on your interviews! Interviews aren't fun, but they're important for better or for worse.

I should go to the gym more often, lol. Now that it's nice out I'll probably start running and biking more, on top of soccer (which I play all year round).

Browsing your letterboxd reminded me that I need to watch World of Tomorrow! It's Such a Beautiful Day is one of my favourite films of all time. I don't watch lots of live action, but I do watch live action movies and shows occasionally. I'm excited for the second season of The Handmaid's Tale, which starts in the next few days. I watched Lady Bird a few weeks ago and thought it was pretty funny / entertaining.

Yeah, I'm using my anime list as a gloried favourites list, haha. Otherwise there would probably be around 400-450 entries.

Spooky timing for sure! Glad to see that you're alive, haha.

It's kind of weird to think that our first conversation on MAL was almost six years ago. We were but young wippersnappers back then.

I'm living in the same city and working the same job I had back in 2015, but I'm starting a new job in about a month. I'm content with life in general. I have enough money and free time (though more free time wouldn't hurt...), work's fine even if it's not enjoyable, my friends and family are doing well, my apartment's good. Can't complain. How are things with you?

I'm still into anime, but I've been getting more into manga and non-Japanese comics. There's definitely more variety. I also generally prefer reading to watching; reading is quieter, you do it at your own pace, it's easier to revisit previous scenes, you can stop to think or appreciate the art, etc. It's also cool that with comics one person (or just a few people) have complete creative control, so there's a strong sense of personality.

I've seen both Your Name and A Silent Voice. I loved Your Name. It felt like a natural culmination of Shinkai's previous work. I found A Silent Voice a tad melodramatic at times and I wasn't 100% engaged, but it handled the delicate subject matter really well and definitely deserves applause for that.

No worries. I would've messaged you if you didn't notice in a week or two, lol.

I hope that's a positive or at least somewhat positive "okay". Are you still doing rock climbing and other activities with that group?

I'm doing well. I survived school and now I'm living and working in a new city. I've been very fortunate.

Hi Trappy. How are you? How is life? I see that it's been over a year since we last chatted!
Josh Nov 7, 2014 6:59 PM
I'd never heard of canyoning until just now, but it sounds really cool. Probably something I'd enjoy.

I've been okay. I'm barely making it through my second last semester of school, which is a little stressful, but I can't complain. I'm almost there. I'm counting the days until April—not that I expected my life to suddenly "work out" when I graduate, of course. I'm just desperate to move on.

Besides school, I spend most of my time reading, internet-ing, and hanging out with my family (and, somewhat rarely, friends). That about sums things up on my end.

Yeah, it's too bad that Satoshi Kon died at such a young age. He still had a few works in him, I think. I remember reading that letter (his "public last words", not sure what to call it) and feeling melancholic.

I can't quite think of anything I would describe as "mind-blowingly" depressing, haha, but I would definitely recommend Inio Asano's manga. I see you've already started Oyasumi Punpun, which is my favourite. But, if you can't get into Punpun, it might be worth trying a few of his shorter works (just to see what a complete story by him is like).

"I was kind of trying to get back into watching anime since I have nothing else to do usually." Speaking of which, what are you up to these days?
Josh Oct 30, 2014 8:20 PM
I should re-watch Paprika some time. It's been way too long.

The background on your about was a nice touch.

The Pony concert link you sent was scary... i thought the minecraft kidz couldn't be topped, but... dem bronnie fans are a whole other level of social autism. -.- too much unwashed sweaty t-shirts and awkward hand gestures in one video.

Trapalicious was the better username anyway. :P

Posting on the forums again?

I hope you will stick around, maybe we can turn that hellhole back into something semi-worthwhile again.

I shan't hold my breath though.
