Haha very true! Most anime critics on the internet that consider themselves "elite" now days tend to shit on that series. It didn't use to have such a garbage reception online, but 4chan /a/ started the hate train around 2010 or so and it soon spread to reddit anime, MAL, Hummingbird, and elsewhere. This was a disappointing turn of events for diehard fans to see their beloved series become one of THE punching bags of the anime internet community. Now most of the original fans are in their late 20s and early 30s and too busy with work and kids to defend an animu on teh interwebz. I'm also 28, but currently single and enjoy writing reviews as a hobby. Nearly everyone born 1995 or later considers it gospel that the series is pure garbage, so it really doesn't have many fans online anymore. Especially on the English speaking internet, though it did fair better among Spanish speaking anime fans. I kind of take pride in being one of the last Elfen Lied fans on MAL. The Last Battalion

In response to your comment...yep. I happen to be a huge fan of Elfen Lied. I write a lot of reviews if you are curious as to why I like certain series and dislike others. You may disagree with many of my opinions, but that is why they are opinions. Art is a subjective thing my friend.

I mean, my own reviews are just my own thoughts on what a show is. They have absolutely no bearing on what programmes I'd personally consider favourites. Also, my favourites lists don't necessarily consider shows I consider objectively better than others. I value how likely I am to re-watch them over critical quality.

I've seen it (and read the manga). I just haven't updated my list for a looong time.

It's and interesting but idealised take on the manga industry as achieving success in that medium is a lot more difficult than the series suggests. If you like the manga version of Bakuman then you may want to check our Rin by Harold Sakuishi - the author of Beck. It's got a supernatural twist to it but the struggles of the lead character and his efforts to become a mangaka are are a bit more "real" than issues faced by the guys in Bakuman.
