Your edit was denied the same day (8/20) you submitted it. It was probably denied due to the fact that the release date of the last volume isn't known yet. So until a definite date is given by the author/publisher, I don't think setting a volume count now is really necessary.
With synonyms additions and other edits you can't do yourself, you can make a request in this thread: http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=60876
And since it was relatively minor, I went ahead and added Hakomari to the synonyms field already.
Not quite sure what you mean by chapter/volume equivalence... We can't set how many chapters are in each volume, so there is nothing we can do about that.
