Also, it has what I think is the best opening theme of the season.

Haven't seen episode 4 yet but liking what I've seen so far. The show's a little overrated but there's some pretty good ideas. It has a lot of flaws though

People seem to die alot but most of their deaths lack impact. I think the show would actually benefit from more violence because watching people disappear as soon as they die kind of ruins the emotion. The ending theme doesn't help eithe. It keeps trying to make it seem depressing but then it goes to this soft and upbeat song for the end credits. It's not as bad as the ending theme to Clannad After Story though. It's a good song but later on in the series when it gets really sad it never fails to ruin the moment.

Back on to SAO, the pacing is all over the place. They skip over long periods of time for no apparent reason, they kill of people without any sort of proper emotional build-up. But with the lack of action shows this season I guess this will have to do. I mean, it's not awful. It's still a really good show. Despite a few glaring flaws like this gem here

End of episode 2: I don't need any guilds, I'm a solo player
Start of episode 3: Okay I'll join your guild

Apart from Cowboy Bebop? Well at the moment I can't get enough of the K-On movie. It's just so good for so many reasons I can't even explain. I've re watched it many times over these past few days. Even putting off watching new episodes of shows just to watch the movie again. Even if you aren't a huge fan of K-On I still highly recommend this movie. The formula works so much better on the big screen. It's a bit long and starts off kind of slow but once it gets moving it's really good. It's not the best thing I've ever seen but certainly the most fun I've had in a while. It also has a surprising amount of music. Which was something conspicuously absent in both seasons.

There's also a few good new shows I'd recommend like Sword Art Online, Tari Tari and Hyouka. I recommend you watch Cowboy Bebop as soon as possible though. It's an anime classic that actually stands the test of time very well.

I've heard some very good things about the show and I will watch it eventually but currently I haven't seen any of it. Been on my Plan to Watch list for quite some time.

I guess that's the reason why it's the only anime in your favourites. But I agree with you that the Haruhi movie is the best thing ever

Good Madoka Review. At lot of other 8/10 or under reviews for the show seem to deny how much work was put into the series and just dismiss everything good about the series because the characters personalities sound bland on paper. But you mentioned all the good and bad points of the show and assessed it fairly. I gave the show a higher score because the idea was right up my alley. The way Supernatural powers are handled in the show makes every almost every other supernatural show seem inadequate in comparison. Because of Madoka I can never enjoy Bleach any more. The job of a Soul Reaper seems like child's play when you see what Magical Girls have to go through.

On another note, YAY! I found an Australian!

That's it's greatest strength and greatest weakness. People will highly praise something that evokes a big emotional response from them. Unfortunately, GOTF didn't do that for me. I didn't empathise with the characters and found the seiyuu annoying. Aside from being sad, there isn't much story to talk about, there was no particularly impressive animation and the soundtrack wasn't the same quality as other Ghibli movies. Yes, it's a message about how war affects everyone and not just soldiers, but that's so obvious it's hardly worth mentioning.
I try not to be too subjective when I score a show, but I can't give points for feelings I didn't, well, feel while watching. I'd still say check it out if it interests you, but it's nothing more than a tale of two kids during a war that's very sad.

I'm sure you've heard, but the anime stopped quite early in the manga. They're releasing 4 movies that retells everything close to the manga and keeps going, the first of which is already out, so I'd wait for the blurays.
Generally the manga is usually better than the anime but with berserk the art style makes it hard to know what's going on, as instead of just drawing what the eye should be looking at Miura completely details every background, making them impressive to blow up and stick on your wall, but with some pages it's really hard to know where guts actually is :D It is really really great though, so if you can't wait go for it, but be prepared for the pain of waiting on new chapters.
