Unfortunately, I have not. I saw Annie Hall yesterday though, but I think, I don't get along with Woody Allen very well, hehe. Other than that, I see that you haven't seen L'eclisse yet. If you have the time, maybe give it a shot. I think, you might like it. :)

Have you seen noteworthy movies, recently?

Hey man, just started Kare Kano and I'm really loving it so far, it's getting me overly giddy even at such an early stage, so just so I don't get too ahead of myself, what shortcomings do you find in the anime? Are there any low periods? Kind of want to avoid feeling really let down in the midst of watching, so if I know in advance I might be able to swallow it better.

How was your day?

I've seen all of his films, actually. According to Letterboxd, I have. But no matter what I do, that heavy narration is absolutely not for everyone, if you ask me. You have to watch his films with an absolute attention and oh dear, The Mirror is like a heaviness. Even heavier than most of the popular heavy books that I've read. I feel tired after watching The Mirror, can you believe it? I, for one, absolutely love watching movies in a row. Even after 3 or 4 movies, didn't feel this way. You can't understand just by watching it, also. You have to research his films' background and all that to fully appreciate it. It's so tiresome at some point. But of course, not that all of his films are like The Mirror. Watching Tarkovsky needs some study and generally understanding about cinema. Or else: I'm not sure if, some random viewer, can appreciate Tarkovsky fully. Hard, very hard.

I agree with you. I, too, absolutely adore Stalker and Andrei Rublev, but generally: Nostalghia, Ivan’s Childhood and The Sacrifice were all great. You can check them out anytime you want. Solaris was incredible and exceptional, compared to the book. I liked the movie even more than the book. The first time something like this happened to me, heh.

Also, if you haven't read Sculpting in Time, please do yourself a favor and check it out as soon as possible (and if you have the time). It has incredible informations and, after reading the book, my Tarkovsky vision wasn't the same. Even I can't appreciate that heavy narration, I respect Tarkovsky like I respect Bergman.

Thanks for mentioning Smiles of a Summer Night earlier. It was phenomenal. I see that you haven't seen Scenes from a Marriage yet though, do you have a plan for it? Quite different from Bergman's style, but that doesn't change its gorgeousness. I thought you might like it.

Also, like Tarkovsky?

You always talk about what's necessary; you never go off the subject. This attitude usually can be seen in people who are extremely concentrated. I'm observing you since we first talk, but you always act like this. Plus, you never ask others' opinions -- or even if you ask, you rarely do this attitude. You have very high self-esteem and it's extremely dangerous; though, you never hurt or make fun of people, that's why your self-esteem won't hurt you. It's very interesting and you're very mature for your age.

Ok Klonoa 2 it is. I saw a bit of gameplay and it looks good!

The wii version had pretty cringy eng voicework that thankfully isn't in the original or 2.

Hey Popka I know you're a Klonoa fan judging by your avatar so I thought I'd ask you wich game is your favorite. I played the Wii version awhile back and supposedly that's the worst one. I'm deciding to give the series another chance but can't decide between getting the first one on PS1 or the sequel.

It's very special for me (even more than Persona), but I think you're not very fond of it, hehe. Maybe later on though, when you watch it again, you'd appreciate it even more! Who knows?

And yeah, I agree with you, The Seventh Seal was very bad. I really don't think it suits Bergman's greatness. Unfortunately, haven't seen Smiles of a Summer Night yet, but thanks for mentioning :) I'll check it out as soon as possible, since I'm quite curious!

How are you? I'm sorry that I'm writing a reply this late. I was going to write a reply before, but you weren't online in the past few days, so I thought you were quite busy and I didn't want to bother you. So if you don't mind, I'm writing a horrible reply right now, haha.

As you can guess, English is not my first language (even though I live in New York for my job). Plus, most of the time, I can't find the right words or I can't express myself properly. Don't want to write a reply that looks very bad or uncaring, since your detailed response looks very caring and lovely.

Unfortunately, haven't read Chinua Achebe's and Kurt Vonnegut's books quite a lot. The same goes for Virginia Woolf and Henry James. I'm very much into the classics, generally. So, these names didn't interest me that much :)

Do you like the classics, or have you read any of them? Or maybe a certain period that you specifically like? Romanticism? Transcendentalism? Realism? Naturalism? Modernism?

How are you finding Ingmar Bergman, by the way? He is my favorite director :)

I think, we can't deny that Utena's power is creativity. You can tell any kind of story, but you can't impress anyone easily with some basic form. Narrative is not powerful, unless it does have creativity. Utena tells itself in a different way; as if it is different from its origin.

It does that so well that, we actually think it cares about its characters and it focuses mostly on its characters. But look closely, eventually, it makes fun of us and shows us the last episode: where we think everyone is related to the story but it's actually Utena and her adolescence, Utena and her environment. Everything comes down to Utena (and a little bit of Anthy). But, it actually cares about its characters a little bit. We don't feel some empty feel in the end. It uses its balance properly. We understand and love its characters; as if they're a part of its story. But actually, the story only tells about Utena.

Utena makes fun of some classics. Utena makes fun of customs. Utena makes fun of cliches. Utena makes fun of everything. But even though, it doesn't look cheap and cliche. It uses its symbols wisely. As if everything we know, looks different; as if everything we know looks the way, that we want.

Ikuhara's creativity and direction style is unbelievable, in a word.
