I love the Chimera Ant arc. It's definitely my favorite arc in HxH. I need to rewatch it again at some point, it's been a few years.

No problem! We do, good taste!
Captain_GARlock Feb 16, 2023 10:21 PM
Yeah, I got married in Canada and we moved to Japan shortly after and now I have two daughters. Super busy now lol

I've got a couple side projects, one is a game I've been making on my own for a number of years. Other than the music I do the art and programming myself. If you're interested: https://goldenbeardgames.com/ (you might get a security warning, I haven't updated my SSL certificate as I've been meaning to move hosting to a cloud server)

The other project I work on is for automating a bit of daytrading (which I was spending way too much of my real time on). It's a good learning experiment for programming which also helps me in my day job haha

Now for games I've been working my way through the whole Ultima series for the last couple years, I've gone through Ultima 1-7 and both Underworld games. They're pretty old school but I loved Ultima 6 as a kid and I played thousands of hours of Ultima Online as a teenager

I've also been playing Deep Rock Galactic and Sea of Thieves with a couple friends, I just started Resident Evil 8 (excellent game, not as scary as RE7 but a great mix of action and suspense so far), looking forward to the RE4 remake next month too! After the RE4 remake I'm not sure what's next, I might go back through some older stuff

I thought I had you on Steam but can't remember your display name. I think it used to be PlatinumZero or something along those lines but I don't see that name these days. (EDIT: Maybe it's PlatinumSouls actually, I thought I didn't see you but when I jsut checked again I see your name. Mine's Mellowlink)

That's great! I'm doing pretty well too, I have a family these days so when I'm not working I'm usually spending time with family or working on a side project. I've been working in Japan since the end of 2018 so that's been pretty cool.

I haven't kept up with anime watching at all, I watch the odd retro thing here and there but it's just been too busy for a couple years lol, so I usually default to playing games in the evening once I'm settled.
Captain_GARlock Feb 1, 2023 3:43 AM
No worries man, I might check MAL once every week or two if I'm not actively watching something so I'm usually pretty bad at replying myself haha, nice to hear from you! How've you been?
Captain_GARlock Jun 29, 2022 10:38 AM
Hey man, hope everything's going well for you in 2022!
Captain_GARlock Nov 2, 2021 5:25 PM
Whoa big delay, I don't check comments as often as I used to.

Sorry to hear that man, it may sound cliche but ups & downs seem to come in cycles. This year has been pretty shitty globally too.

Steam id is jeremy_roy, my display name has been Mellowlink for as long as I remember. These days I usually get in a couple games of Deep Rock Galactic with a couple friends regularly.

Same here. I usually update mid season or at the end of the season. That's true. I definitely think humour is a good way to deal with stuff. Although, I had a therapist make me feel really bad and uncomfortable for using humour as a coping mechanism earlier this year. I was pretty much like "what" because I had gone about anxiety. It was my first appointment. I didn't go back. He was 100% a reptile in human skin.

Just googling the game. It looks really pretty, and the idea sounds great.

It really, really is. The world feels really disjointed too. It's still really awkward to visit friends/family in other countries too. Any ideas what you could do to get a change of pace? Only 3.5 months left of 2021.

Hm. Anime and meeting up with cosplay friends is what helps me at the moment. We've got a few group chats too, and those are really nice. It feels like a decade since I've been in group chats with people who know my personality etc, so. Damn. It's actually really cool. I recommend finding one if you don't already. It will help pull you out of your head a bit - and people like us really need that.

I loved Hades
Echelon Sep 6, 2021 8:26 AM
Hmm, don't think I upgraded anything else since our last talk. The folder shortcut to my shared folders across PC's seems to be the best solution for that issue I was having. Thankfully my 2060 and 1060 can suffice for now. Damn you won some Newegg lotteries? I'll have look into those haha.

Damn! Like how many bosses or where were you at in Bloodborne? It's actually not as long as some of the Souls games, so you were probably far at 20 hours in. That's a huge chunk to lose. I'm still more of a physical media guy with consoles for reasons like these. I'm cool with digital on PC. But yeah never had any interest in the streaming services...

Can't blame you on Sekiro. It's hard as hell heh. I'm never too big on the idea of rogue-likes but I do want to check Hades out for sure. Looked and sounded really good from everything I heard.

I'm playing Shin Megami Tensei 3 on PS2 right now, 64 hours deep and loving it! It's blown me away and now I'm excited to dig into more SMT. For other stuff, I did beat Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order recently, that was really cool.

Other than that... man, a lot has happened since April, lmao. I quit my job without a backup plan, but I was utterly miserable doing night shift for a year and had enough of all the overtime from that job of 5 years. I have since then been on a journey trying to build up for more opportunities in the future. Taking some Udemy courses on Python, SQL, went through a book, etc. I quit in late June, but it's felt like I've still been working part time at least since then haha. Been keeping busy for sure, trying to do some projects and such every day. Finally saw some friends last night for a wrestling show and some Tekken, so that was cool too. Just living off my savings as it drains up for awhile. I don't regret anything at all but yeah, always a little scary not having any income for a bit. I'll have to take a job soon probably, but hopefully in the near future I'll be leveling up in life!
CrimsonGlaive Jul 14, 2021 5:55 PM
Oh my gosh, sorry for my ridiculously slow reply. 2020 got worse and 2021 I've been so tired. My life is just battling fatigue right now haha (why am I laughing lol).

I hope your 2021 has been better! Table top games are really nice and comfy. I've only had the chance to play some occassionally. But honestly, that's a really great hobby to have.
Captain_GARlock May 3, 2021 5:01 AM
How're things? I don't come on here as often as I'd like, I'm super busy these days.

I should still have you on Steam though, I don't we ever got around to playing anything together.
Echelon Apr 2, 2021 3:17 PM
Hah, like you were saying, it was a big learning experience and you gained some new knowledge over that. Sounds like you enjoy building for friends and others around? I remember one of my friends giving me Xenoblade X for slapping a GPU in his rig years ago haha. That said, it did end up having a weird boot issue after the hardware change but I solved it somehow. lol

All your spread out HDD's is kind of funny to me since that's how my older setups were. So as prices and space kept getting better, I'm trying to shrink the number of HDD's in use down a bit. It took me like a decade to finally get my anime to watch down to at least 2 main folders now, lmao. My file organization is a jungle.

I've been digging Noctua myself for the extra fans. That said, for my new big powerful rig I got three of these before realizing how insane 3000 PWM is and it's like industrial grade, lmfao. Well thankfully these MB's have good fan control, so I figured that out after awhile and only got them running like 40% and to go up if necessary. Sounded like a damn vacuum in my living room otherwise lol.

Yeah, I guess with a GTX 1060 my second rig is still quite good for anything. Since I'm on a weird third shift now from COVID last year, it was kind of depressing always being in my dark cave bedroom and I just wanted to do more in my living room with the powerful rig idea. My last apartment was so dinky my living room was just like storage haha. I get some nice sunlight in there now and then when it's "late" for me I can go back to my cave for a few hours later in the day.

Network sharing has been a bit finicky on Win10 though. The folders I have shared like anime for watching on both PC's, they rarely show up under the Network listing. But I found out you can create a shortcut on the target PC that has the file path to the folder(s) you want to share. Been working like a charm that way, pretty weird. The other thing I've noticed is that sleep mode on both these PC's is pretty inconsistent. I rarely even leave folders open when they're not in use, but yeah. I usually leave my PC's on all the time anyways.

Now this will sound blasphemous, but I'm still mainly just using my WD Black's on both PC's for any gaming and Steam haha. So... I know people say the NVME's are crazy good, but yeah. I might consider putting like Cyberpunk on it though, special occasions. Booting is insanely fast and smooth though. So I just have the OS and general apps on the NVME's for now. Whenever I get a second one down the road I'll probably use that more for other stuff and gaming perhaps. I love how simple these things are though, just slot into the MB directly and saves you two cable connections haha.

Dude yes! Both the PSU's I got are modular... holy crap, game changer indeed. I'll never want to go back haha.

--

Now I probably sounded harsh on Bloodborne, but those were my main nitpicks. It's still a brilliant game. I can't fault any fans for hailing it as their favorite. So yeah, if you ever grab a PS4 or PS5 someday it's a must play for sure. I think DS3 took a bit of the speed from BB, the combat being a little faster. Then in DS3 you also had those secondary attacks for weapons, that was probably another influence from BB. There was one area early on that looked like a BB area too haha... I forget the name, but yeah it was just a lot of bones and gross village stuff. Very Bloodborne, outside the gothic castles and all.

Level design wise Bloodborne is closest to DS1, in being very Metroidvania. But BB is even more claustrophobic and intricately connected in ways. It's not as open, but yeah the way areas will weave back together is crazy.

It can be kind of a shorter game though, maybe ~30 hours if you have a good grasp on everything, without the DLC. Another issue I have though is that you can accidentally skip like half the content in BB. Even moreso than the Souls games, a lot of the bosses and areas are optional more often than not. It's pretty weird. I played it at launch with another friend online, so we both were very thorough and talked if we discovered some stuff. But yeah, I sometimes look things up in the end to make sure I don't miss anything crucial in these games. BB is also like DS1 in that, beating the final boss sends you into NG+ immediately. I don't like that, so I'm glad DS2-DS3 made it an option if I recall.

Sekiro has a grapple hook too. It really is fascinating to see how From did more "verticality" in level design. They did it well.

Hmm, Demon Slayer keeps coming up for me a few times lately heh. I am curious about that one.

I haven't touched Wano yet, usually let a good chunk of episodes pile up but yeah. I think I might try to catch up sometime this year. Its slowly approaching that 1,000 ep count... lmao! Good to hear about Wano. I think the pacing has been a bit more problematic since the time skip. But yeah, still love One Piece overall. I think the villains might have peaked with Doflammingo for me though, heh.

Echelon Apr 1, 2021 12:25 PM
Wow haha. So did you ever find out what killed the computer? I've never messed with radiators or crazy fan stuff and three builds in I'm not sure I'll take it too far into that anytime soon. I never really manually overclock things either, but yeah.

AMD Ryzen 7 3800XT
MSI MAG X570 TOMAHAWK WIFI ATX AM4 Motherboard
Corsair Vengeance LPX 32 GB (4 x 8 GB) DDR4-3600 CL18 Memory
Samsung 970 Evo 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive
WD 8TB Black, WD 10TB Gold ... lol, got a lot of media I wanted double/triple backed up and more
EVGA G3 850 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply
Dell S2719DGF 27.0" 2560x1440 155 Hz Monitor
Corsair 750D ATX Full Tower Case

I actually built another one right after this too. Which was not the initial plan, but my 2013 Win7 PC in my room was acting up a lot last year and then when I got NordVPN, it was really mucking up. 2020 was so crappy for me and I was shoved into a 3rd shift, so I felt it was time to reward and spoil myself a lot and these are big investments. For the build I listed above, that's in my living room for a new setup, so I had to get a desk (two actually since the first sucked haha), even got a Secretlab Omega which is awesome so far. Now I've been messing with mechanical keyboards and mouses, trying to get the alignment and ergonomics perfect haha.

The second build I did to replace the one in my room, I got mostly the same DNA in parts but went a little cheaper and down a level. Like a Ryzen 3600, 3200 ram, 750 PSU, etc. The case I got is freaking badass, Corsair 4000D Airflow ATX Mid Tower Case. but I got the other monster in my living room since I want to have plenty of HDD space for the old style drives when I need it. I used a lot of externals for years and now I'm just down to one and want to keep it that way. I think in a few years hopefully those NVME's will keep getting better and bigger too, both my MB's have a second slot so I can toss one of those in sometime.

Guess what made me sweat the most? The freaking Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO lmao. I over researched it and watched too many videos man... I didn't realize until after messing with that listed MB, that the Cooler Master I got didn't need the extra bracket for the A4M. But I found that out after I took things off and yeah it took like an hour haha. So I got the same cooler again for the second PC and thankfully, that whole build from top to bottom went so much faster.

Spoiling myself with two PC's, but it helps that I already had a GTX 1060 and RTX 2060, so yeah lol. Saved a buck there. Even though I really wanted a 3080.

Oh yeah, I took some pics:

PC3 in my room, Corsair 4000D: https://i.imgur.com/t4JyIed.jpg / https://i.imgur.com/BkefYUb.jpg

I felt pretty proud of that cable management improvement haha. But the case has to take 99% of the credit, it was so slick out of the box and already organized. I transferred over two 6TB WD's from my 2013 rig and thankfully that went smooth.

PC2 monster in the living room: https://i.imgur.com/fkcduWu.jpg

These cases are crazy. The front feels like a mini fridge to the touch haha. I like the tempered glass of the 4000D. I for one don't care too much about all the RGB stuff, in fact I hate it with the one in my room. I've been tempted to unplug the power LED connection too since that button is so bright lmao.

Phew we can probably ramble a lot on that. :P

Bloodborne, well my bias says from Demon's, Dark Souls 1-3, Bloodborne, and Sekiro, they're all 10's to me. I also finally replayed Bloodborne last year actually, it had been several years. It's gothic perfection and nails that aesthetic. But if I have to be honest and nitpick, the one note setting does kind of wane after a few dozen hours. The reason I'm still even bigger on the actual Souls games, is that they offer both more environment and player build variety. Bloodborne the armor isn't all that important and once you pick and stick with a weapon, that's about it for the game. You have more advanced movesets, but yeah. I also think it might have the weakest OST of them all.

Sekiro is in a sense, even more "limited" and closer to a character action game. But the samurai/ninja stuff is really my fancy in gaming along with more environment variety and WAY higher difficulty, I like it more than Bloodborne. Since you've played some Souls, if you ever get around to Bloodborne, you might beat half the bosses or more on a first attempt lol. Sekiro forces you to learn how to parry as its main gimmick, so it finally changed things up compared to Bloodborne, which is kind of just like... Faster Souls combat wise.

Jujutsu, I feel like the issue is that I can't really get more specific. Like what did this ending leave us hanging with to look forward to? What are the end or general goals here for the characters? Where are the clear steps in them evolving and learning things? I hated the middle portion when all the students were fighting it out like they were out to kill each other, but in the end they're all on the same side and it was just a crazy test. It was often throwing us into action between those characters immediately, then tried to dish out their backstory. I'd rather get some buildup before the match and care about them in advance. So to me this show just felt a lot like style over substance and skipped the basics of some storytelling. Call me traditional in shounen, but I wish the motivates and goals for some of these characters was more clear and fleshed out. There's just simply way too many characters too lol. Gojou and Toudou were good and Itadori was great but even he got sidelined sometimes, which felt weird. But yeah it definitely made me think of a blend of YYH meets Naruto/Recca and stuff haha. But I think it was kind of trying to be more like a JoJo and didn't really accomplish that to me. Overall, I gave it a 6/10, when i felt like the first half was an 8/10 and it could have been greater if it kept that up. But the second half really nosedivded to me. I just couldn't get into all the characters. But yeah, nothing terrible, nor great, in my book.
Echelon Mar 31, 2021 1:47 PM
What's your rig specs? I built a new powerful rig since we last spoke but the best GPU I have is still an RTX 2060. Still good but I'm pissed I couldn't score a 3080! lol

I played Cyberpunk on PS4 Pro at launch but got a refund. It was bad as the rumors make it sound haha, crashed a lot among other things. Still LOVED those 10 hours I put in. But yeah man my new rig is setup and I plan to focus more on PC gaming for modern stuff going forward. And I've always liked the FPS/RPG stuff on PC more anyways. So I'll just buy Cyberpunk there when the mood strikes.

I did put a dozen hours into Outer Worlds recently... but I think I might drop it. The story/characters and gameplay isn't doing anything for me. Kind of a bummer.

I've beaten Dark Souls a few times now. Ever tried a glass cannon magic build? I killed Gwyn in like two hits once haha, Homing Crystal Spear and Mass I think, and he was dead. It was weird... he lunged at me then all my magic beams hit and he was dead. lmao, I still prefer STR melee builds in these games though. But it was fun to finally try magic. I did a magical build of Demon's Souls last year too, but that wasn't as fun actually. Dark Souls has more spells and tools to work with in comparison.

Have to guess you liked Jujutsu a lot? I sadly did not after the second half. It seemed really aimless and the character usage was wack. I'd be curious to get your take on it though. Definitely didn't hate it, but it kind of flopped for me and that wasn't much of a cliffhanger to chew on.
