Nah not worth it. I never picked it back up. Too many other bad anime to write about.

It's a bit different from the novel, but the film stands on its own quite well. It's been a LONG time since I last watched it, around 10 years ago, but it can be enjoyed on many levels. It has fantastic acting, great dialogue, and great camera work. It's a great character study on a disturbed individual that also asks us to consider how far we're willing to go to achieve a desired outcome. Would it be ethical to take away free choice if it means safety from violence? Interestingly, Roger Ebert originally hated the film and gave it 2 stars. He watched it again years later and gave it 5 stars!

Dr Strangelove and Clockwork Orange are both amazing! Like you said, 2001 is great. I still have a real soft spot for The Shining because that was my first Kubrick. The hipster choices that film snobs always pick are Barry Lyndon and Paths of Glory.
