what shows are critically good? if you have no shows(doesnt have to be anime) i will accept books or music but make it a short book so i can read it because i am not a big reader

Yeah to be honest everyone could mix their names together lmao.

That's why it's better to use smaller or local ones, I mean in the one I use there's no toxicity from what I know, only useful or fun reviews, though people are more elitist than letterbox for how they rate things, this is kinda the same when you check AniDB ratings and compare them to MAL ones.

True, I think Italy will comeback 1st, but we still need England to win a world cup at some point again.
Difficulty question for France -Argentina because technically we didn't even lose the main match it was a tie, it's just that the penalty shoot-out rule can be as random as possible for the outcome, I just prefer how it was before where the match was prolonged until someone score and it's instantly the end of the match, but the possible infinite length was the issue sadly, especially with nowadays ads and sponsors they can't extend a match for too long. If only Kolo Muani didn't miss his goal everything would be different.

Sadly yes in most cases money brings everything, even when it can't give you talent it can still give you fame, of course there are many stories of famous singers that started from the bottom but most of them just had rich families and strong ties.
Well really for the prisons? I mean it wouldn't surprise me but at the same time I thought prisons were way too crowded? At least that's the case here they avoid putting people in jail because there's no room anymore.

Yeah it's clearly apparent for streamers/youtubers, as well as being controlled by governments, some of them even often do collabs like to promote the military and other things.

Well creole has always been special to me because it's often totally unknown words and then they suddenly pronounce a sentence in full french or use french specific words.

These ones are often both bad AND boring, so it's literally torture to sit for two hours to finish them.

You're a case study on unwarranted self importance.

but a friend gifted me Frieren vol 1 as a joke so who knows I might read the manga as a braindead okish read sometime in the future

I will talk about the anime
strong points
-pleasant chill atmosphere
-the quick initial passing of time, always cool to see the world changes from the eyes of a long span mc
-slow changes to frieren character at the start

weak points
-unidimensional side characters, epsc Fern, she is the same if you compare ep3 vs ep 28 (I watched some of later eps)
-the chill atmosphere quickly loosing its charm as the show started to be more battle orientated
-very boring mc, from what I watched she only showed emotions in 1st ep
-very basic world building, come on for an anime supposedly focused on world interactions you can come up with something better than "north lands" lol
-demons as a whole, hell even fucking demon slayer had more fleshed out demons
-boring power system, it gets the job done but.....yeah pass

So I think overall frieren is a mediocre show that starts pretty good in its own medieval fantasy SoL niche but quickly becomes generic demon adventure anime nr99999, I bet if Frieren didnt had the design she has nobody would have cared for this anime, similar to oshinoko

to answer your question i have no fucking idea why you would watch something that you thing has barely produced anything deserving of the label of very good

Out of the three, I've only seen Grimgar, but I think that show to be one of the few Isekai I can call critically good. I had a good time with the show, it's far from my favorites, a solid 7/10 for me, but that is high praise when you compare it to the rest of its genre. Of course, it wasn't all well and good, there were problems with some of the character writing, for example, the mage girl in their party really doesn't develop at all, in general, I feel like female characters mainly react to the development of other characters. This is fine and all, but from what I can tell, there wasn't a single woman in the show that was able to get over her problems alone, they all needed help. The only thing why I don't think this to be a big problem, is simply the fact that it is still handled in an overall believable manor. Haruhiro, the main character, has to work to help the rest of his party, he isn't just magically good at what he is doing, and we see the extent to which he struggles with the responsibility of leading his group. I do still think, that it could have handled its female characters batter, and that is still my main problem with the overall show, but that shouldn't take away from how entertaining it is to watch. The show is a blast, not one I remember all that often, but when I do, I think about its human struggles, how grounded it is for a fantasy show and how much fun I had with it.

Oh my. You took a long time to respond. I thought you'd forgotten, and that I'd have to send you a reminder.

> Besides the bday problem did you have any other issues in the friendship
Mostly, it's about effort. I've always been the one making more effort in every friendship of mine and at one point I realized - why bother? The other isn't ever going to match my level, so either I should drop to their level or cut them off from my life. That's why today I have acquaintances or people I can hang out with, but not really anybody I could call a 2 am friend.
How about you? Tell me you have better luck with friends than me 😂

Was expecting something like that, just makes a lot of sense looking at your ratings. It does also have the added benefit of skipping all the crap when people think they need to tell you how much you suck for enjoying some shows. I personally can't really do something like that, though to be fair, I am a lot newer to anime than you are. For me, my favorites shift by quite a bit every year and while there are a few stable positions like Kaguya-Sama, which is just my favorite TV Show ever. I have a strong enough attachment to these shows to for me at least warrant the bother of talking to people that believe you to be wrong for liking something, but I also understand that this is pretty illogical. That being said, I don't have a problem with how things are currently, I can't tell if my stance on this topic is going to shift over the coming years, as I grow more and more accustom to the tropes and genres of anime, but at least as of right now, I am happy for still being able to find new stuff. I see the fact that I am more and more unable to immerse myself in stories as a problem, a person internal one, as I feel like I am slowly losing my ability to really connect with the emotional core of a lot of narratives I watch. Of course this isn't all bad, media analysis is really fun, and I am an aspiring author, I need to have a critical understanding of narrative structure and tropes. But even then, I kind of miss those first few months, where everything was new, when every show was so immersive, so different from what came before it, that I could just get lost in it all. I have a show like that maybe twice per year, and I don't want to lose that. Watching a show critically is a lot of fun, but it rarely leaves an emotional impression, but always just a critical one, and that kind of frightens me. I fear that there comes a point, where narratives will no longer be able to give me an emotional reaction, when I am so used to it all, that there is nothing I could react to. When entertainment becomes mundanity, only a craft to be praised, that sure is still fun, but it is also just the tiniest bit depressing, because critical praise only has one form, that of judgmental astonishment and emotional reactions are just a lot more multifaceted than that. I still remember the first time I watched Made in Abyss and how I was in awe in the face of the shear underlying scale of it all, the beauty and majesty of it's at the same time so alien world. There is to this day a feeling I get when I listen to some tracks on that show's OST, it is that sense of adventure that is intertwined with the show's world, it just left me with an experience so incomparable to everything else. I don't think that I would have the same reaction now. This kind of setting does appeal to me in general, huge parts reminded me of the world of Hollow Knight, which is my favorite video game, so there are seemingly patterns in this, but all this stuff about atmosphere isn't a critical judgment, but one of experience.

It is rare for me to be able to enjoy a show without critical thought, and I miss the time when this all was simpler, when I didn't yet understand how this all works. There is a comfort in ignorance, back then for just a single day Another could be my new favorite show, and then I would move on and watch my new favorite thing. These shows didn't need to be critically good for me to enjoy them, I cared very little about that, for 4 years, SAO was a cornerstone of my existence. I do not regret learning, but I miss the times when it was just entertainment for entertainment's sake.

Sorry, this was a bit of an overly long rant of mine, it is not like this really has value to you, but if you did read it, thanks for sticking through my existential angst at the hand of something as normally irrelevant as anime. But hey, we choose how much value we give to certain parts of our lives, and whether I choose wisely with this one, I will just have to see over the coming years.

Though, let's be honest, it is not like this really matters, it is a nice thing to think about, but it is a small part of a minor character in a big Seinen with dozens of them.

As a quick question, are there any anime that you have a stronger emotional attachment to, shows that you would consider far and beyond your favorites, or do you have a consistent critical view on all of them?

The thing with his track record was actually the most intriguing part for me, because Tenma's case is only one of two that we actively see Lunge follow. The funny thing being, that he messes both up, granted, the one only results in failure, due to his focus on the Tenma case. What makes this interesting for me, is that it takes into question how good his track record really is, because the German legal system at the time was famously dodgy, with police often forcing subjects into false testimony under pressure of physical assault. Lunge is an investigator, he analyses a crime and gives the assumed culprit to court, it is hard to tell how many of his previous investigations were similarly bad, and it takes into question his entire track record and line of deduction. There is no direct proof showing that Lunge made mistakes in previous cases, but from what we are shown, how can we ever believe that he was right with every assumption beforehand. If Tenma hadn't escaped, Lunges track record would only have gotten better, because it doesn't matter if he is right or not, neither to him nor to the state. The fact, that he is obviously wrong, asks into question everything about his job, and there is no longer anything supporting his claim of being a genius.

also about youre evil races thing lucianael, this is the way i see it. the demons are not an inherently evil race. think about the relationship between the fox and the rabbit. the fox routinely kills rabbits, and we know that they must do this to survive. however, from the rabbits perspective it would not be unreasonable to think the fox evil. if the rabbit could, it would surely fight back against the fox if it could, but it cant. in the past, before humans had magic, they were very much in the position of the rabbit, with the demons being the fox. now however, they can fight back, so they do.

I can't remember if I watched it dubbed or subbed. I watched most anime subbed, but Hellsing kind of feels like one of those series that's meant to be watched with eng dub in a way, not unlike FLCL, Outlaw Star, Cowboy Bebop, etc. Probably just because those were heavily on TV here and the dub quality was getting a lot better during that period. I hate the fake accents, lmao. While most historians seem to read quotes in their own voice, every so often, I'll find one who reads quotes in how they perceived a person to sound or was presented to sound through recorded audio, and I always get the impression of mockery, so I'm sure that is how I'll feel with the Hellsing voice acting. XD

It's kind of frustrating because I've had some series not click until like 3-4 episodes in. 1 episode can tell you a lot, but I just don't know if it's enough here or not. I'm on the fence, but I'll probably try another episode.

AD had an interesting setting and mood, but mostly was just brawls with like 2 agents of the government, and the slug fest around ep 6 with Brawler (I think that was what they called him) seemed overly tedious.
Lucianael May 1, 10:04 AM
I would draw a line between irrational and stupid. He is an incredibly irrational man, in not wanting to accept the reality of his actions, he made some very large mistakes. But he is not stupid, at least not in the traditional sense. He does show a huge capability for logical deduction and reasoning, the problem only lies in his one rule: "You are always right, Tenma is guilty". This is irrational, but the rest of his reasoning is logical, so I wouldn't call him plain old stupid. However, no matter how you call his state of mind, I feel like I have to underline how intentional this all is. Lunge is irrational in a very human way, it feels believable and that is all intended. No matter if you call the character stupid, he is the way out of a conscious decision by the author, which at least from my point of view paid off.
It’s time to ditch the text file.
