I'm not sure how to feel about the current state of Berserk. Haven't read it in awhile though, I need to catch up. I believe we briefly spoke of this in passing before haha, in club comments or something. But I feel like it's lost some of the magic, and Miura might be losing his touch. But at the same time, this current arc that I'm not really liking is about 4 volumes or so, which in the grand scheme of things isn't a particularly large chunk of the story.

I totally see where you're coming from, and I feel the same to an extent. Berserk is my #1 favorite anime/manga series and perhaps my favorite piece of fiction ever. But at this point I'm almost numb to how shitty Berserk has been treated haha. After the movies in particular, 15 years without a new anime and we get some garbage CGI recap films of the arc that was already animated. At this point I don't think anything could be bad enough to overshadow how disappointing and terrible that shitfest was.

However, the upcoming game looks pretty cool. I'm pumped for that, much moreso than this new anime.

Did that Lone Wolf and Cub western localization get fully released yet? Since you mentioned it I keep meaning to check. I'd definitely love to own the series on paper.

Other than the cancerous CGI the last few episodes have been decent as far as adapting the story goes. It's not even close to the adaptation Berserk deserves, but it's shaping up to be a better swing at it than the movies imo.

You still need to read more manga :P

http://www.nyaa.se/?page=view&tid=293484 Kasei Yakyoku raws. I hope these can get subbed.

Ahh thought that might have been the case.

Oh sweet, yeah Dougram is excellent. Though it can drag a bit at times. The bad guy is awesome as well, and it really delves in to quite a bit of detail in to the political side of things. I was surprised how far it did go to be honest.

Yeah, decided to pick up Touch, glad that I did. It's on the other end of the scale to that of Sentou Mecha Xabungle. Which whilst good was very hectic and fast-paced. Needed something a little slower, if you get my drift.

ah fair enough

I get the sentiment, if I ever spot a set of RAWS then I'll throw a message your way.

hey dude

Just so you know you can find Ginga Sengoku Gunyuuden Rai with English subs. (The version I watched had watchable subs, though there were still some obvious mistakes here and there but they were at least watchable)

I don't think anyone is seeding them on a torrent, but, you can download the whole anime off of thehylia.

Are the DVD rips for Baldios on ADC no good? I have some raws but they don't look as good as the Blue Fixer ones.

Dorohedoro seemed awesome, not sure why I stalled. I like the characters and the world seems very interesting. Will pick it back up eventually.

I like the first half of ZZ better. When it tries to get serious in the second half it just felt even worse. I'm just not a fan of it in general though, I mainly just like 0079 and CCA for Tomino UC.

Have you tried recruiting help over at msubs' forum? I'd think some people there would be interested in these. Gunlord is a nice dude who got really good at timing, but I'm not sure what he's up to thesedays:

Yeah I've heard that about Queen Millennia and the subs, very strange case. It's promising that it's translated... but then it's not being worked on, so it's still not really a win? lol...

Ideon is definitely a favorite of mine and top tier Tomino for me. Be Invoked is just one of my favorite anime movies period though. The looks to this one are really cool, I love some of those late 70's or early 80's shows that have a transitional look that blends the two styles. Ideon has a very unique and standout OST as well, done by the Dragon Quest composer, he didn't do much else in anime but that gives Ideon such a unique flavor. Definitely makes it even better.

Lot of people dog on ZZ but I really don't think it's that bad, lol. Second half was really good with an arc or two arguably better than Zeta's stuff perhaps. But yeah, overall it's nowhere near as good as L-Gaim, Xabungle, or Daitarn to me.

Even though Yazan was reduced to a joke in ZZ, he was still the best character.

I will randomly chime in and say I cannot express enough how much I want to see Daimos and Baldios subbed! Juushin Liger looks like a goodie too. Now that we finally got Layzner, these are probably some of my top choices along with Queen Millennia.

Been interested in Daimos forever since it sounds like Nagahama's best mecha series and lots of space is involved, I think. Always love when there's space in mecha personally. And from things I've heard over the years Nagahama and Tomino were good friends, Nagahama maybe being a mentor to him? I've always wanted to see some of the influences Tomino probably pulled from. I just started up Voltes though and it seems amazing!

Baldios I always saw get compared to Ideon years back, so I got around to the movie and loved what I saw. Seems to emphasis drama/space over mecha, which is never an issue for me. I love mecha but sci-fi is the bigger thing to me, so if it's in the background that's fine with me. Anyways it looks all kinds of cool.

Just thought I'd randomly throw that out and say hello heh.

The lack of Violence Jack manga in English is really unfortunate. It's supposedly the sequel to Devilman but there is some alternate reality/universe shenanigans going on, or so I've read. It seems to be Nagai's longest manga series by far and the OVAs were really promising. I think a decent chunk of the original run has been translated.

"I think although Go Nagai's stories might not be masterpieces of storytelling they are typically some of the most purely fun and awesome that I know of" - that's pretty much a good way to look at it. From what I read Devilman seemed to be the only series where he was really trying to tell a story and get a point across. Otherwise he is mainly about style and pure entertainment.

Mao Dante is nowhere near as good but it's a decent read to see where his ideas for Devilman came from. It kind of meh but it's worth getting through to see the hilarious ending, I laugh just thinking about it.

I'm not a huge manga reader either, but I definitely enjoy it when I get around to it. Been re-reading the Jojo series off and on. Lone Wolf and Cub along with Vagabond are pretty high on my priority list though. I love samurai/chambara stuff and those series seem to be considered pretty high tier manga. I will be looking into that omnibus set you mentioned. I also really need to read more Ito Junji manga.
