I’m sorry, but you are flat out wrong. Eren even says in the anime ending with Armin that he was an idiot with too much power. He killed 80% of humanity selfishly. Even the people of Paradis were sickened by what he did because they knew Paradis was finished. He could claim to have done it for his people, but the sequence when he’s a child stretching out his arms and proclaiming “this is freedom” is obviously indicative that selfishly he killed those people to relieve himself of what he considered to be the problem. In fact, throughout the final act there are many people that talk about how Eren’s plan is foolish and wrong. And the darker reality of the story is if he killed every single other society besides Paradis, and lived in harmony afterwards, the series would undoubtedly be promoting fascism and genocide LOL. Let’s say I agree that yes, he was doing something logical to even the playing field…his people still got slaughtered. His plan failed because Paradis got obliterated later down the line (sooner in the manga). There was no equal footing because the world struck together in unity to eliminate Paradis. So what is the message of the anime at that point? Some people are destined to be slaughtered, and it can be considered justified because in acts of desperation they will resort to extreme and indiscriminate war crimes, including the killing of innocents? At that point, why isn’t poison gas and flamethrowers allowed in warfare?

It’s a red herring to suggest the reason Isayama went with Eren’s plan was because this was “Eren’s story”. There’s no problem making Eren the focus, but when you destroy the logical and cohesive narrative you built up by assassinating so many of the characters you had definite up until the end, the story degrades in quality and becomes completely derailed. Mikasa never grows as a character with her own identity, Armin agrees with genocide, the whole arc with Erwin is meaningless, the people of Paradis are no longer villains to Marley but to the rest of the entire world now, Eren loses all sense of agency being only a tool for a god. The writing is just bad, I don’t know what you’re trying to convince me of.

I want tl really question why you believe choosing a painless death is succumbing to despair. They literally died by being obliterated to death. Millions of innocents on Paradis paid the price for the crimes of one single man. Eren is selfish and obnoxious and fueled by rage. He caused his own people to die horribly. How is that an acceptable fate? I get wary from you AOT stans because for whatever reason you refuse to look at this story based in the fundamentals of philosophy. History has proven Eren wrong. Even the whole “Eren was compelled to do genocide” is such a convenient excuse for his philosophy of hatred. People are not perfect, but that doesn’t mean most societies don’t try to promote as much efficiency in order as possible. There’s a reason there is not legitimately recognized anarchist government in the entire world. People, whether you agree with their values or not, crave structure and order. If there’s no structure and order, there always is a concept of philosophy that people rally behind. Instead of communicating with the world and trying to bridge gaps of hatred or misunderstanding, Eren says “looks like genocide is the only way”…THAT’S PSYCHOTIC LOL. Nobody takes this stance seriously, because the last time someone had this stance, we waged an entire world war against them. And spoiler warning: they lost!

You are mistaking my point about progress as a straight line. I did not mean to say that life is getting better and better, and that there are less problems over time. My point was despite the problems we still have, human civilization has still improved. And whether we want to admit it or not, war actually has led to scientific innovations that people benefit from to this day. Of course, war and death and hatred is bad. But over time there have been improvements in human societies to at least outweigh the negatives. Eren’s solution is not war. It was slaughtering of people en masse for his own selfish desires. It is completely psychopathic and deranged, and unrealistic. There’s a reason countries do not use nuclear warheads modern day. It will lead to human extinction, or at least to a worldwide upheaval of order. It would be complete anarchy. Now, until we see the day when the Earth is charred to bits due to nuclear war, it is an accurate assessment to say that human civilization has been improving. Also, I will say this: despite many human societies and nations going extinct throughout history, human life has still come to a point where humans are not only healthier but more intelligent than they’ve ever been in existence. So Isayama portraying humanity as “full of hatred and war” is disingenuous to the greater reality that is “despite humanity’s shortcomings, there still exists an element of hope that pursues a greater good”. Again, I am not saying AOT needed a happy go lucky ending. I am not even saying that it shouldn’t have had a genocidal aspect to its storytelling. But the way genocide is portrayed and as a solution is completely nonsensical. Genocide exists; but not to the degree it’s portrayed in AOT. It is ludicrous to accept that AOT which has been pretty realistic in its political narrative up until the 3rd season would dive straight into such political extremes. The bottom line for me is I am not judging the writing so much as I am judging the skill of Isayama and being critical of the theme.

The problem is not at all that the show delves into tragedy or pessimism or nihilism. You could be driving to work or walking to school and a piano could fall from the sky and end your life. You can also die from cancer after getting married. Life is full of suffering and pain. But Isayama created a dishonest representation of life, which I feel is worse than creating a power fantasy or even an ecchi harem. Human civilization is driven by biological and ideological evolution. The reason our laws are better than they’ve ever been is because over time we as humans decided what is “moral” and “proper”. But of course human beings aren’t perfect…but the way in which Isayama wrote his characters into such a pitch black trench with literally zero hope for the future (and he literally shows us that Eren failed in the end because he didn’t kill everyone except his tribe) is point clank a dishonest portal of human civilization. The whole point of being human is resisting these evils and creating a reality where every people has the chance to live. Yes, of course it’s ideological to believe this…but that is what separates us from beasts! I just don’t think the story made any logical sense, and it solely because Isayama made it to be paradoxical issue where whatever the people of Paradis did either led them to be victims or villains. Life is a lot more nuanced than that.

Thank you! It sounds like a fun job and I'm good at it, but I'm not sure if I want to do it for the rest of my life... Though I'm sure it will come in handy when I need it to, since I can use that skill to get a job most anywhere now which is a bit comforting.

An engineer, huh? That's pretty cool, you have to be very smart to do something like that. My dad is INFP too and he's an engineer. He works more in engineering mechanics and reverse engineering and he likes it a lot, so maybe you'd be interested in that too? I understand what it's like to feel lost but try not to worry too much, branch out if you need to, I'm sure you'll find a calling soon enough.

Ah, art can be quite hard, but I think as long as you have fun doing it then that's what counts the most. Writing is a very good outlet, it's nice that you're able to write. I'm sure your stories sound well put together and eloquent, so I wouldn't be surprised if people like your work.

Lol that's cool to hear! He's a weird character, not a lot of people like him, but I understand.

I used to make a lot of things when I was a child and a teenager, like jewelry, hair acessories, makeup. But it was quite costly to buy materials so I had to drop that. Aspiration wise, I recently went to school to be a phlebotomist (those are the people who take your blood in the hospital) so I'm thinking of getting a job at a hospital but I'm not sure ^-^;

I'm nerdy but I'm also pretty practical. I'm not really dominant on one side or the other so it depends on the test whether I get INTP or ISTP.
It’s time to ditch the text file.
