s2012k1993 here to hopefully clarify your misunderstanding (or mine).

First of all, I have got to applaud your ability to stir up discussion on MAL concerning Hyouka 11. Now, I do not know what your real intentions are for inputting all that work, instead of lazily reading forum posts. But, I get the feeling that you are out there to clarify and make robust what people say, which is something I do admire. Say you continue to give me those impressions, but instead, you hold more sinister intentions that I am unable to catch onto. Once I do discover those intentions, I would be in a tricky, if not frustrated position. This is, in essence, what I am arguing happened in this arc. You are Irisu and I would be Houtarou.

I am simply trying to understand the characters via their motivations. In accordance with the analogy, I will try to answer your question, so please don't take anything personally. I just don't want to waste such a good analogy. Since you are asking me what should have been Irisu's response if she had known the true goal, I will argue that (1) if she did, she would have garnered none of my sympathy; more importantly, (2) I claim that she didn't know the true goal, which is why I pity her in a sense. Notice I don't mention the author, Hongou, at all in my discussion. I simply use Hongou to establish the true goal.

Now, let us assume that most users on MAL would appreciate clarity and robustness in others' posts. Call it a true goal using my previous definitions. Now say that your intentions stem from a belief that most MAL users are depraved souls using this forum simply to state their righteousness. Therefore, you have intentions to dominate other users and form a cult following. After a while, you have started your cult and your followers are increasing exponentially. If you had initially known the good natured intentions of MAL users (i.e. wanting of clarity and robustness) and still pursued your intentions, I would call you a cold-hearted manipulator. If, instead, you never knew MAL users' true intentions, and pursued your plan, I could sympathize with your misunderstanding. Notice that I don't know what you would have really done if you knew MAL users' true intentions at the very beginning. I can however, assume, that since your intentions will have aligned with MAL users' true intentions, you wouldn't have to pursue the path of gaining a cult following.

I have been led to the conclusion that Irisu never knew Hongou and her classmates' true intentions due to the last chat scene between Irisu and Houtarou's sister (We can discuss this chat scene further, if you are interested). Hence, I pity her. What if she had known Hongou's and her classmates' true intentions? Well, if she still pursued the same course of actions, I would, likewise, call her a cold-hearted manipulator, but the way she tries to defend herself during the chat scene with Houtarou's sister makes me think otherwise.

I am sorry if I offended you in any manner. That was not my intention. I would appreciate if you respond where I might be wrong and what might have confused you. I am interested in making my writing clear and understandable, so I would greatly appreciate your input.
It’s time to ditch the text file.
