Considering I haven't contributed much of anything to this site at the time I'm writing this bio, I'm not too sure how you wound up here, but welcome anyway! I've only been actively watching anime for about a year now, and, as cheesy as it'll sound, it's really changed my lifestyle more than anything else has in all my twenty-one years.

Not counting shows like Pokémon or the original Sailor Moon that I watched as a kid (before I even knew what anime was), my first anime-conscious run-in was with Spirited Away. I was only about six or seven at the time, so I can't say for sure that I knew it was an anime film, but it was a movie that I continued watching as I got older and more aware of what anime was. Throughout middle and high school I never thought about watching anime, half of the reason being that it just never crossed my mind to watch any and the other half being that the people at school that were open about it were, admittedly, who I knew as the weird kids. They were never really picked on or anything but, as an easily-influenced preadolescent, the last thing I wanted to be was weird.

During that time, I was always a JRPG nerd, and depending on the game I was also a shipper for a lot of my favourite characters. Video games are different from anime, though; I never got called out for being weird since most guys tend to play games as teenagers. The summer after my first year of university, my mom was watching The Secret World of Arrietty and I just happened to walk into the room about five minutes into the movie. At the time, I had also started playing Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch and realized that the art styles of both were similar. When I found out that Studio Ghibli, the company that made Spirited Away, were behind both, I ended up rewatching said film and was intensely moved by the heart and storyline that flew over my head as a child.

From there, I ended up watching nearly all of their other films and then started branching out to other anime films like the works of Shinkai Makoto and Hosoda Mamoru. I was hesitant to invest time into a full series, as I was a bit embarrassed of the idea that my family would see me watching it, not because it was anime but because I was only watching romance stuff. What got me into series was after I watched the Clannad movie. Having not seen the series and seeing discussions and reviews that said the movie was so awful by comparison (I thought it was good at the time), I figured it couldn't hurt to give the series a shot. From there, well, you can kind of guess what happened: it became and still remains my favourite show ever, anime or not; I delved into other works by Kyoto Animation and Key; and then branched out from my "romance-only" phase.



A bit about my current, anime-loving self: I still love JRPGs; I'm an aspiring game/anime composer, hence why all my favourite people are composers (hit up my soundcloud while you're at it!); and I used to bboy and pop, though I haven't really danced much in years.

To me, 7 is average (for a broader range I usually say anywhere from 6.5-7.5 is average, so a bunch of my 8's are actually average as well) because, in terms of grading things, a 5 would be the minimum to make it passable. Basically, a 5 is something that had barely enough to make me overlook the flaws. My scores also tend to be weighted by enjoyment. I could break it all down and give it an actual score, but I'm sure the numbers would not all match up to what I've given them (especially considering how intensely important music is for my enjoyment). I doubt I'll ever rate anything lower than a three, mostly because I'll realize that anything less than a four just isn't worth my time, and I don't tend to give shows a rating until about 3-5 episodes in (which is usually when I'll drop it if it's not for me).
