Jinta was kinda mentally breaking down more each episode since he was getting more than attached to Menma's apparition... but all their screaming, bawling and crying at the end kinda made the anime not as good as it could have been... if you get me.
Oh, yeah, Jinta's realistic character and how they weren't afraid to show his flaws, was what I liked most about him too.
I know it's been a while since I last commented you, but when I re-read your comment about Goulart Knights and their target audience, I had to guffaw... :P
