Sometimes my VPN temporarily goes down or can't reconnect, so I can sympathize.
It's nice you even made the effort to record it on a calendar. You've secured yourself a place in my elite friends circle ;)
I see you dropped Shinsekai yori in the end. So it did get any better then?
I can't remember much of Paranoia Agent either. It's been something like 7 years for me. And I used to see the DVD in HMV all the time like 10 - 12 years ago. It really typifies that era for me. I just saw that it's 20 years old now, but there quite often seemed to be a delay between the initial Japanese releases of many anime, and when the English dub DVDs made their way onto the shelves of the local UK stores, or when they started to garner a favorable reputation with casual anime consumers.
I don't usually care about online friends on sites like this, but if you must know I stumbled on an old thread in the forums and I read a comment you wrote about Clannad there. You hated on Clannad so eloquently that it moved me. That and you have interesting tastes.
Ah, well. If an hour is too much for you, what can you do. I kinda understand what you mean though, as these days, 2 anime episodes back-to-back is enough for me, before I feel the need to take a break from it and do something else.
With intellectual/artistic/innovative things like Ergo Proxy and Sonny Boy, they can either be a hit or miss with some people. It's not like they've been engineered to be a sure sure-fire success with the majority of the general/mainstream anime viewership. Tbh I admired Sonny Boy's originality but it was perhaps too surreal and off the beaten track for me. Hey, I have a MAL friend called sixper who has Evangelion and Haibane Renmei in their top 10, as well as Sonny Boy and Ergo Proxy. Interesting coincidence! You can drop by to say hi, if you want. They're friendly and easy to talk to and they might give you a prep-talk or advice about Sonny Boy and Ergo. Just tell them I sent you, and I'm sure they'll be agreeable/happy to talk ;)
I see you've not gotten off to such a good start with From the New World (Shinsekai yori). I've seen the first 5 or 6 episodes myself and tbh it does have a weird/unsettling and gloomy vibe to it. It might get better as it goes on though with how the story develops.
I'm a bit of an older and veteran/experienced anime viewer myself (12 years watching), so I can understand how you can sometimes feel like it's not taking you to the 'magical' places it once did, anymore. I kinda feel a bit like that right now, actually. One of the best recent series for me has been something called Pluto, if you've heard of it? I was meaning to recommend it to you in particular because a country called The Kingdom of Persia and its ruler Darius feature extensively in it, and the main antagonist/mastermind Dr. Abullah is also Persian. I think you'll like it in a serious way and it might make you laugh, as well.
Arigatou, Fate-kun (*^3^) and Merry kurisimasu and a sugoi new year to you and your kazoku (≧▽≦) I hope your 2024 will be soo daijobu and kawaii that you will be feeling daisuki and ureshii everyday (☆o☆) Yatta!
Thank you so much for those Christmas wishes, Fatephile! I am glad to hear that you are doing so well.
To answer your first question, I have not been baptised yet, but it may well happen some day. The current state of the Catholic church does not make me want to become "affiliated" to it—or to any other Christian sect for what it is worth, so I am a bit conflicted what to do now. I keep reading and learning and hope (I do not want to say "pray") that I come to a conclusion.
