My first impulse after finishing The End of Evangelion was to grab the sharpest nearby object and cut open my wrists in order to bleed to death, because it became painfully obvious to me that I wouldn't be able to enjoy anything else in my life anymore.
If EoE is a 10, then every other Anime that exists can only be a 1, but that wouldn't even be enough, they would need to be a minus 10.
You see, normally a movie, show, or book focuses on a certain genre and is therefore unable to compete in genres it doesn't focus on. But in this case, EoE is just the absolute best in everything it just tangentially attempts to include.
The subtle hints at romance are like a punch through the face once you notice them with all their melancholy, offhandedly carried by certain scenes alongside their main point.
So, I recommend you to never watch this movie, because you will likely try to kill yourself upon the realization that everything else in life will be sh*t in comparison.
I honestly CAN'T handle it, it made me scream so hard!!
I have NEVER experienced such creativity when it comes to inventing ways to expose tits!!!OMG!!!
This show is sooo obviously unaware of it's ridiculousness, it REALLY makes you think it was written by people with the IQ of a piece of wood. WOW!!!!
MIND YOU, it's BRILLIANT, it's GENIUS, thinking about the show is enough to make my brain MELT!!! AAAAHAHASHSGAUGSDIUZTAFDIJZTUASFCVD!!!!!!
AND THEN COMES THE SUDDEN REALIZATION: This show is an ANIME-ADAPTATION OF Nietzsches Thus Spoke Zarathustra!!!
It takes a whip and F***G BLASTS YOUR BRAIN with the subtle remark; "God is dead"!!! AAAAARRARHGHGAHGAIOHGODIUZGADZPOZADF!!!!
The word art is unable to describe this piece!!! We'll need a new word; 'super art'!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Attack on Titan Season 3:
Kenny is the first 'decent' antagonist AoT ever had, but fortunately Isayama noticed his mistake and killed him off immediately in the most anti-climatic way possible.
After all newcomers NEED to die in order to disguise the fact that the entire main-cast is basically immortal.
However none of that matters in the case of AoT, because what actually matters are the fights:
I don't think I was the only one who couldn't resist the immense urge to dab during the duel between Kenny and Levi with the sick new rap-lyrics.
Sadly the action in AoT S3 is rare and the rest is bad, really just bad. I won't even bother to explain why.
Yes, when a whole episode seems to have not progressed at all until the last minute it's a kick to the groin and that's what i most did not enjoy about Angels of death
Indeed it does. The pedophile narrator of the novel claims that pedophilia is weak adults being taken advantage of by naughty children. The pedophile is the victim. Of course Humbert is meant to be an unreliable narrator, but actual pedos have kind of taken this as their battle cry and have a strong attachment to that book. It gained an unfortunate cult following in Japan and is responsible for Loli now being an entire genre of Japanese erotica. Thanks Nabokov Sama!
I know even the best film and TV adaptations are always VERY different experiences from the original literature. That's why I told you I hadn't read the novel. I wasn't going to be an idiot and say "Yeah, I know all about No Longer Human. I watched the anime!"
At the moment I'm watching the shows that appeal to me personally. I do want to watch NGE because it is a classic, but others are higher on my priority list right now.
I see you got in an Eva fight with the legendary old man. Personally I'm with you, I like Eva more than Gunbuster when it comes to Anno's work. Eva is in my extended favorites, but not quite in my top 10. Personally, I think if your anime doesn't have ANY issues or things people could criticize, then it's boring as a work of art. Our favorites should be determined by which series are closest to us and had the biggest impact on us, not which series objectively did the least amount wrong.
By Tolstoy's idea of art did you mean "What is Art?". Yeah...late Tolstoy took moralizing too far when he went full Christian, hippy anarchist. Generally Tolstoy's best regarded works are his earlier stuff like War and Peace and Anna Karenina. Personally though, I've always been a bigger fan of Tolstoy's arch rival Dostoevsky. My goodreads profile IS a picture of me standing by the Dostoevsky statue outside the Russian national library.
My experience with classical Japanese literature is limited. I've read Tale of Genji of course along with the Pillow Book by Sei Shonagon and Oku no Hosomichi by Matsuo Basho.
I like Nietzsche, although I've only read Zarathustra and some of Beyond Good and Evil. Of Wilde I've just read "The Importance of Being Earnest" and "Portrait of Dorian Gray". I respect Wilde greatly as an author, although he's never been a personal favorite of mine.
I try to sample a bit of literature from all over, but my specialty and greatest love is Russian lit.
Goodreads is...meh to be honest. Is there a site you prefer?
Do you mean total books read on my goodreads or just that my favorites list is somewhat generic and doesn't feature more obscure classics? I suppose it's all relative really. Compared to America's average I'm fairly well read on the classics front. Compared to Chinese graduate students, not so much. Do you have a goodreads? Maybe you could give me some suggestions.
Totally fair. I definitely don't read long reviews written by other people. Mine are all super old, and are back from when I had way more time to waste watching and writing about anime.
Haha you might wanna read the rest of the review. It's actually two reviews, one's a 1 and the other's a 10, and the point is to demonstrate the different personal responses people have to the show and how that can color their view of it. The nuances of the arguments aren't super important to me and it's been a while since I watched Eva, but there's a 90% chance you're right about Asuka/Shinji.
Have you seen Lucy? It's practically the same as Lain, but more action oriented. Girl becomes God + it has Scajo who is the sexiest of milfs.
I recall dropping DxD before even finishing ep 1 completely. I do plan to try it again and have no doubt I will like the uncensored version now because anime with tiddies is these days better than anime without tiddies.
Lain does outright state its points, it just has so many of them that none of them can really be considered the focus.
Also the people who claim you need rewatch it X times to understand it are mouthbreathers of the highest order.

Thanks, though!
