That's an understandable sentiment towards seasonal anime, as I also feel that a surplus of mediocre anime tend to overshadow some of the good ones every season. But hey, anime is just a hobby, so you watch whatever you want to watch! And I'm sure you'll also ace your college and personal life so you can enjoy your day-to-day life. You sound like you know what to do to achieve that!

Hmmm I really like Aiyoku no Eustia's setting. It feels like a fully realized world with its own government and hierarchy, and it's something I really appreciate in stories. I'm not too far in it, though. Currently still in the beginning parts of it, but I can see it having lots of promise later on.

Oh yeah, I've heard lots about Dies Irae. I think its prose is pretty much the biggest threshold blocking me from reading it. But hearing you say that might just give me that extra incentive to start it. I would love to improve my Japanese greatly at some point! I'll probably start it once I finish Aiyoku. Also it seems like something I'd highly enjoy, if it's anything as thought-provoking as people seem to praise it for.

So how goes your anime-watching? I think this season has some pretty good ones, like 3-gatsu and Shoujo Shuumatsu Ryokou. Next season looks promising as well, with Violet Evergarden coming out.

Hey, thanks for stopping by! Sca-Ji is probably my favorite writer of fiction, and I just love the way he creates such surreal narratives. I don't know how he does it, but his writing is so stunning to read. That scene you pointed out is also my favorite! It's incredibly chilling to remember that particular moment in the story. I'm just so glad to have found his stories in a pivotal moment of my life, and I'm even happier to have come across others like you who find his works so meaningful!

And hey, your taste in anime is great, too! You seem like a pretty chill guy. :)

How long have you been learning Japanese? What are your methods etc?

Yeah, I don't really lose anything except my time, which is fine since I enjoy creating things more than consuming them no matter how bad I am at the former, it seems. I'll take your advice, thanks; I actually used to have my own characteristic style but I've been refraining from using it so I can learn better from others which can sometimes be pretty difficult, so it's always good to remember to do so.

I think I've seen what you're talking about a while back, lol (regarding people scoring Subahibi high but not actually liking it that much). I could have done the same with Dies Irae when I finished it, but I rated it lower than Umineko Chiru (which almost all the ''cool'' people in that community hate, lol)....So it really doesn't matter to me, and it only really becomes annoying when I get others grouping me in with those kinds of people who just like things to fit in. I've had people say I changed my scores according to what person x or y thought about whatever thing for example, which is just ridiculous when I try not to let anyone influence how I feel and I am pretty vocal with expressing disdain even towards things that are critically acclaimed by most (with the airing season right now, I don't get all the love for Little Witch Academia and Kuzu no Honkai, for example). That and all the things I like are usually really connected to my own personality and experiences, besides my own standard of quality.

Fair enough. For me even reading in english counts as learning (even if vns really aren't the best place to learn, lol), since it's not my native language. How far into Fata Morgana are you?

Yeah, I started using it more often lately so you can add me there if you want (it's Bea #8371)

Thanks, it always means a lot to hear that I've improved in some way since it's pretty much the main thing keeping me going right now. Feeling like I've stagnated is what usually discourages me the most and I was really close to quitting forever for a couple of years / never really took it seriously enough because of thinking I'd never get better, which I've been trying to get over recently.

I agree with you on Twitter, I've kind of been wanting to get away from it for similar reasons, besides it being a distraction like I said before. I noticed a lot of it is more about who can make the 'funniest meme XD' or just how well they can appease to others, and I've gotten kind of tired of it recently. For the latter especially, I don't think it's worth the effort at all just to impress some random people on the internet who aren't even better than me (not to mention their respect would feel hollow anyway in that case). The community of people who read untranslated stuff in general can be particularly bothersome for me at times, since I feel like the way there are so few people reading things makes it easier to give more influence to people like moogy who have more ''credibility'', and from there a lot of people just choose to parrot his opinion instead of thinking for themselves (which isn't the case for everyone of course, but still). That and it feels like people are almost always 'racing' against each other just to be the first to finish things instead of prioritizing actually understanding them whenever something new is out, and I've even seen some particularly assholeish people put down others for being slow readers, which is just dumb when other people actually have a life or things they'd prioritize over reading.

skapandi Jan 24, 2017 5:25 AM
Yeah, I did. Not really happy with it but I'd say I feel that for all my drawings atm, lol (need to keep practicing so I can improve faster). I should probably stop checking twitter myself, since it makes me get way too distracted from reading or whatever else I'm doing. I finished Karen's route though, it was okay (more average than anything else). It felt like the main conflict wasn't handled very realistically in the end, with how we didn't get to see the way
and overall it felt kind of...Naive? Despite being self aware of the whole ''you can't live alone'' stuff as a coming of age story and being surprisingly mature about it at times. Actually, it felt vaguely like Asuka's route in Himawari in that sense, but handled poorly I suppose. In the end it wound up being pretty relateable for me though, since I too have constraining parents and live in an island I want to get out of, so I've had a lot of similar thoughts to Karen/ she's easier to sympathize with for me, and feel a slight bias towards the route despite it not being anything special. Onwards to Sara's now, I guess.

skapandi Jan 18, 2017 11:20 AM
I've been slacking on Island since I'm trying to finish a drawing (hopefully it'll be done soon) and been more busy with other stuff in general, so I'm just around that part where Setsuna is taking Karen and Sara out to eat after they tried to catch bugs. My guess is that a lot of what Setsuna says is going to turn out to be true even when it just comes off completely as a joke, since it seems way too elaborate to be joking at times (especially when Kuon was explaining speed of light etc...I'm glad Dies trained me since now I don't fear info dumps as much, lol). But yeah, I'll see if I read some more of it so I can actually talk about it.

skapandi Jan 13, 2017 3:03 PM
Yeah, you should probably start from the beginning again since it requires you to choose things in a very precise manner to advance in the proper way. I enjoyed the beginning too myself, it was really gripping and atmospheric. The rest of the game feels more subdued and slow paced. I guess because besides the repetition, it goes into characters that are really flawed and have somewhat depressing circumstances, and the message itself is really bittersweet.

I think I might still do Karen's route first honestly, since from my experience doing the worst route first would probably make me less motivated just knowing that I still have Karen's to read afterwards. Basically if I read Karen's first, I can get through Sara's easier afterwards most likely, since I'd be thinking ''gotta get to Rinne, gotta get to Rinne'' and probably finish it a lot quicker, lol. But yeah I'll see when I get there, since I'm still pretty early in according to the walkthrough I'm following, and who knows, maybe I'd enjoy their routes to some extent. So far I'm liking how G.O. got right down to business with the time travel stuff and really makes you actually believe in Setsuna's stuff despite how much it's played it up as a joke right after. His scenes with Rinne are pretty nice, too.

Good to see you're enjoying Dies, you've definitely got a lot to look forward to. I think the only parts that really gave me some trouble were towards the end of Rea's route, but it was still pretty manageable japanese wise, yeah. It feels really weird to read ''simpler'' stuff after it now too, lol (definitely helped boost my reading speed, that's for sure). I was surprised by how Kasumi's route definitely isn't that bad when it comes to introductory ones in vns as well, even if I still don't really like her as a heroine.

It’s time to ditch the text file.
