Though you didn't say 'genre', one couldn't really leave it at merely 'psychological'. It's an adjective, a modifier, not a genre. And the genre here is comedy. This is regardless of its overtly
comedic moments - the tone of the entire show is light and comedic. There are situations that are really potentially crushingly depressive, but none of that is played seriously, it's always the
somewhat neurotic protagonist blabbing away ever faster. If it means anything to you, all other anime databases agree with me on this point. I don't object to your points about the translation of the first person perspective into animation, but I do hope you're not claiming that merely employing FPP makes a show psychological? The protagonist's state of mind isn't examined, it's delivered to us by himself, and he is somewhat of an unreliable narrator, insofar as his true feelings are concerned. Hence the neurosis that acts as a self-defense mechanism. You said it's about him coming to grips with the world and his flawed views on it, but I think it's about him coming to terms with himself and his choices. The world remains flawed, it is unchanged, but through acceptance of his "destiny" [choices that led to one of the potential realities], he can finally became at peace with himself. Or would you say it's the same difference?
In any case, I really did like it, so your recommendation was spot on :) This is one of the few shows [anime or not] I'm looking forward to rewatching.

Just wanted to say I finished Yojouhan yesterday. And it's within the time frame I set for myself. Yay.
I have to say, it wasn't what I expected it to be. Though I didn't have a very clear idea of what it will be, it was an idea influenced mainly by comparisons to NHK ni Youkoso!, which are wholly off the mark.
Another thing (but related) are the genres under which it is categorized here: mystery, romance, psychological. Of these, only romance really applies. There's no mystery to be found and the only thing deserving the tag "psychological" is the penultimate episode, where the comedy gets toned down a little. Its genre is conspicuously missing from that list, and I just have to wonder how could anyone miss the fact this is a comedy?
I'm a little conflicted about it. I enjoyed it, but I find it hard to pin down what exactly it is that I've enjoyed. I liked the art style, but that wouldn't keep me watching on its own. I didn't particularly like any of the characters, I dislike the sort of comedy it deals in, and the story is pedestrian. It's not emotionally powerful, there's nothing deep (fortunately, nothing "deep" either) about it, and the repetition barely escapes becoming tiresome. So why do I like it this much? I have no explanation but "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts". A preliminary 8/10. I'm off to ponder it more.
i tried to download Yojouha Shinwa Taikei but all the links were dead...and i'm not one to fancy downloading series on torrents (i download movies that way, but given my pesky internet connection, it will take too much time to download a series...)

I know, I know, it's one of the two Highest priority shows on my list, but I'm trying to space out the stuff I hope will be amazing. I just checked, it's been nearly a year since you first told me to watch it. So, I'll tell you what I thought of it by 12/20/12 :)
And as for SAO..... Do you want the short answer, or the long answer? Because the short answer is a simple "The anime fucked up a lot", and the long one is more in-depth. No spoils, ofc.
I still say Tari Tari is the best of Summer 2012, which does mean the season was pretty damn crappy. It's like all the bad shows were dumped into the Summer 2012 season and the ones with potential were dumped into the Fall season....
Anyways, Kokoro Connect was only good in the first arc, but the rest kept me entertained.
I was actually going to watch Nodame Cantabile after Phantom, dem feelz from Tari Tari hasn't escaped me yet.
"Comment on the 10's of the person above you (DO comment with more than one sentence?)" thread about Kara no Kyoukai, well, u're actually watching it in the wrong order...chronologically the first movie didn't really mark the start of the story since the order of the movies story-wise is 2, 4, 3, 1, 5, 6, 7....a lot of things would be missing if u watch the movies in numerical order such as the development of the relationship between Shiki and kokutou highlighted in movie 2 and 4, etc...and the fifth movie was awesome bro..it was filled with some effective and shocking twists and the storyline was also fantastic...and the final movie also had one of the most satisfying endings i've ever watched....
btw, u really should watch Space Brothers, pronto! definitely one of the best series of the year, the kind of a gem deprived of any anime cliches such as excessive fan service or over-the top violence...and Mutta is probably one of the most relatable characters around...
SZS was pretty funny and I caught a lot of references at first but then I felt like the parody got worse, lacked wits and somehow I stopped caring. Parody just doesn't seem to be my cup of tea so far and that's why I probably will never watch Gintama if all it consists of are 200 episodes of parody. Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita seems to be an exception so far because I found that actually smart and sadly it's not even tagged as parody.
As far as Tatami is concerned I'll say the same as I would about Bakemonogatari. Let's agree to completely disagree. I've got someone else telling me to watch it as well but the only thing I liked from the first episode was the ending. The art and especially that one guy is horrible ugly, the dialogue was nowhere near good enough to justify me trying to read that fast and I've seen nothing interesting story wise so far. I'll watch some harem or romcom if I wanna see a dude trying to get laid.
I planned to watch Boogiepop Phantom rather soon actually. I keep postponing Gankutsuo somehow although I'm really curious but I always get distracted I guess.

Yeah, from how I interpret it some of it's pretty bad. Like the "child broiler" is actually heaven/hell from how you interpret it. I actual;ly don't think the penguins got in the way at all, in the serious scenes they stayed quiet (I think) Though yeah, they were distracting as hell.
I do like the OST, but I personally don't like it as much as other OSTs. It was pretty annoying in the earlier episodes, with that long transformation sequence in every single freaking episode. At least Rock Over Japan was good, as you said.
What was your team? I personally started with a Snivy, something that is underused sadly.
IDK about Mawaru Penguindrum. I just love it, kinda hard to explain why (and, no, it's not because of the "hidden illuminati symbols that worship Satan"..... I think. Someone actually told that to me once. MAWARU PENGUINDRUM HAS SATAN IN IT, WONT WATCH). The penguins were great comedy relief (I absolutely adored them), the plot was fairly simplistic but still entertaining, of course the symbolism everywhere (I love interpreting things, making theories, etc.), the fact that it got me hooked on the first episode, chills down my spine every episode, the artstyle..... Just everything was perfect for me.I think the thing that hooked me most was the symbolism though. I like to think that I'm a philosopher at heart.
But I admit, I can see the flaws in it, primarily that without the symbolism it's probably very average, some things could be annoying to the majority (Ringo, "Rock Over Japan" multiple times during an episode), some boring episodes, somethings could've been done better, too much symbolism, etc. etc. I overlook the flaws though, as me enjoying it is all that matters.
Many times people ask me why I love it so much, and I'm always not sure what to answer. It's just hard to put my feelings in words. Sorry if this didn't help you at all, as it seems like a load of bull tbh. Regardless, this is how I feel about it, and it hasn't changed ever since.
Oh, and btw, SOL stands for Slice Of Life, which I think you know what that genre is. If not, think "cute girls doing cute things".
