Thanks for your comment, I'm glad you liked the review. And what you wrote is just what I try to accomplish with my reviews. I value the enjoyment factor in my reviews very little and instead just focus on writing observations about how well a particular anime compares to the best of its genre. Some people with weird tastes might have enjoyed Mirai Nikki as much as Steins;Gate or even more, but there's no denying that S;G was way more ambitious, clever and well-executed.

And funnily enough, other than being at the opposite end in terms of quality, Steins;Gate's main plot device is pretty much literally opposite of Mirai Nikki's despite both being about cell phones relaying info through time; in the other one you passively receive messages from the future, in the other one you actively send them. Both of them could have worked equally well, but like you said, Mirai Nikki completely failed at using the opportunities.
