Hey! It's been awhile. Hope all is going well for you. When you someday get a chance to check out yourMAL account again, I hope this little comment catches your eye and brings a smile. Take care.

I see that you finished SAO II. Everybody I know is eagerly awaiting pt III. How about yourself? Belated Merry Christmas and Happy New Year btw. ; )

I'm sorry, but who is this?...Just kidding! I about fell out of my chair when I saw your comment. I'm really happy to hear from you again. I'm glad that things are looking brighter at the Post Office. Stick with it and work hard and it will pay off in the long-run. I'm rooting for you to get a good route. Yeah, I thought I'd be dating myself if I started talking old-school Post Office jargon. Working overnights...would that be at a processing facility?

I'm waayyyy past SAO (awesome show btw). I watched Kill La Kill (thank you for recommending), Golden Years, all seasons of the World God Only Knows, Maburaho, Vampire Knight (+Guilty), Nisekoi, Oreimo S2, Pet Girl of Sakura Hall, Nisemonogatari, Love Chuunibyou and Other Delusions, Blue Excorcist, and probably a few duds that I started and didn't finish which I can't remember. I made it through the first 50+ episodes of Pokemon and will be watching where I left off pretty soon. To continue the old school theme (or kind of older school that is) I'm currently watching Death Note and a couple others like Fate;Zero and Canaan.

Don't worry about us here in AnimeList land or Hummingbirdme land. We are ever forgiving of those that have to live life and pursue their dreams, however we will never forgive those who give up on anime and manga altogether. I can tell that you would never do that :). I always enjoy our chats and I guarantee that I won't forget you. Take care.

HAPPY CHRISTMAS EVE!

Looks like your prediction came true about working a lot during the holidays?

I pray that you get some time during Christmas to take a break and enjoy yourself. Did you ask Santa for the collector's box set of Nana? I'll cross my fingers that he'll deliver. Take care.

Wow! You must be super busy. Hooray for you. I hope you're preoccupied with lots of awesome anime and manga. There's nothing better for the soul.

I thought I'd send you a message on MAL just for the fun of it since it's been so long since I've been logged on here.

I've been cranking through some pretty decent anime lately. Heaven's lost property...I had no idea it was so perverted when I started watching it and I kept hoping the main character would chill with the over the top horn dog behavior, but there was some pretty hilarious moments as well.

UFO Princess Valkyrie...harem, but again some funny moments. The concept makes me think of a bunch of writers sitting in a room dumping ridiculous story concept idea into a pile and saying "yeah, lets go for it."

.hack OVA...I'm not much of an OVA person, but this one had a unique spin on the D & D motif which I appreciated.

Neo Angelique...way too serious and way too slow of a start. The light moments follow what I like to call the "Three's Company" formula or mistaking innocent comments or behavior for ribaldry or embarrassing situations.

Mezzo...lots of fun action. The quality of the animation takes a Southward turn after the second episode for some reason. Think Kick Ass in kind of a cyber punk future.

Legend of the Legendary Heroes...awesome concept (I'm obviously a sucker for the D&D motif). They tried to wrap it up too quick. The manga has a ton of extra adventure and is not complete. I anticipate a future reboot a la Full Metal Alchemist or Kanon.

I'm about to retro to a Mazinger Z movie. ??? Something must be wrong with me. Once in a while I get these urges to go retro (ha ha, what I consider retro you probably think is prehistoric...however I refuse to ever stop loving anime no matter how old I get.).

If I don't hear from you before the holidays, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. I hope you have a great one. Take care.

Nice to hear from you. I thought that I was going to die I had been away from anime so long. I got almost all the way through Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood, completed Welcome to the NHK, and have seen the first 48 episodes of Fairy Tail. That is miniscule for such a large period of time and I was feeling some serious withdrawals. I am finally able to get a little free time here and there, but only today enough time to check out MAL.

I hope work is treating you well and I hope that when you say it's keeping you busy, it's in a good way. Stay positive and be like the colloquial ducks feathers.

I'm sorry that MAL wasn't as hospitable place as it could have been to you. I guess you can't stop human nature. I always hated cliques when I was in high school (good Lord that was a long time ago) and I always tried to stay as far away from it as possible because it would p*** me off. Fortunately, real friends find a way to you. I didn't try very hard, if at all, but some of the highest quality of people wound up wanting to actually hang out with me. That translates into modern times as well. We're just a couple of persons that care a lot about the most awesome art form to exist (slight exaggeration), we're communicating only in written form among thousands of other people, and by chance I get to have great conversations with someone with a top notch personality. I have to apologize though that you got the short end of the stick and have to put up with a blabbermouth like me (self-deprecating humor can be endearing).

Here's one for the record books: my youngest daughter is a big fan of Korean pop music (EXO, BAP, Henry, et al). I somehow got wrangled into taking her to the KPop expo in LA. Talk about being out of place. Picture a sea of teenagers with the occasional adult mixed in. Now picture one of those adults wearing a Dr. Who t-shirt while everyone else either has Korean characters on their shirts or are cos-playing. Can you say "dork!" (at least thats how I felt). I would have killed to have been at an anime expo instead. Oh well. The concert part had about 7 groups and they weren't all bad.

I will definitely move on over to hummingbird.me and check it out. Luckii with the double-ii. II see a pattern. But I will only follow you if you follow me too...or however that works.

As I mentioned earlier, I've been watching Fairy Tail also. Thats cool that they will keep expanding the franchise. I really like it. Thank you for recommending it.

I will see you (er write to you) on the flip side. Take care.

Hi, thank you for your time to took the effort to give me some recs, i appreciate it alot..
Its okay to necro it anyway, since i will do it to as soon as i finished watching anime that already recommended, about Paradise Kiss, yeah the VA thing actually bothers me, thats why i put it on hold, but not anymore, since you convinced me about it...
I'm avoiding any tragic story if possible, since it really break me down after watching 5 cm per second, and Clannad AS.
about Chouyaku Hyakuninisshu: Uta Koi, i'll put it on my list but not priority for now, since i don't actually like episodic anime, thats why Mushishi is a no for me.
Gokinjo monogatari, i get the feeling this is the same with paradise kiss?
thanks again for the recs..
PS: love your profile pic...:)

...and I finally came up for air. I work for a local school district and the last four weeks of school plus the first four weeks of summer break are absolutely nonstop (I had a little vacationes as well :)).

I watched the first 13 episodes of Attack on Titan. Wow! You weren't kidding. That is definitely 1st rate anime. Very creative and action packed. I also like how the mysteries are interwoven into the plot. I'll be watching that one as each episode comes out.

I watched the first FMA. I'll probably go ahead and knock out Brotherhood this week. (I've lost some serious anime time due to work. I guess I have to eat and pay the mortgage). I hope it's not as disappointing as Negima.

Alrighty. Thanks again for recommending AoT. Take care.

Wow! You must be super busy. I'll keep you mildly entertained with a few random musings.

I broke myself of the obsessive compulsive need to finish a series. I jumped from Gundam to Canaan and Full Metal Alchemist...which leads me to another rather silly thing that I probably should break myself of.

By watching FMA and finding that I enjoy it immensely, I've decided to stop being a prude about popular anime. I've always avoided popular stuff like the plague because I've always observed stupid people flocking to popular stuff just because it's popular. Well, that's my loss. I tend to miss great things on occasion such as FMA. I guess it'sbetter to check things out first and then decide whether to shun. ;)

I have returned from my sabbatical (translation - busy with work and don't get to feed my MAL addiction nearly as much as I want).

I'm glad to hear that you got something that you wanted for your birthday. To this day, my Mom always gets me something Dr. Who related for me either at Christmas or birthday (I became a fan at the tender age of 11 during the Tom Baker incarnation). My buddy got me a Gundam t-shirt once, but anything Macross (Robotech) relatef I have to buy for myself. I don't care about the "dude, you still watch cartoons?", look that I get once in a while. Watching anime and reading manga is such an innocent pleasure (and highly addictive) I don't see how it could possibly be a realistct put off to anyone. It's not like something destructive like drug addiction or gambling (if the proclivity is there for it to get out of control) or megalomania. Remember that most Otakus are adults in Japan. A huge slice of the genre is geared towards adults and therefore, there should be no shame in being a fan (this rant is being addressed to myself as well because I occasionally feel the same way).

I took a look at the toki doki site, and you are correct that I really didn't get a whole lot out of it (though I did think the stylization was unique), however while I was browsing I felt something behind me. I turned around to see my youngest daughter looking intently at the screen saying, "wow, what's that." She was immediately hooked. Her and my next oldest went to Universal Studios a week ago and my youngest came back with a toki doki plush animal. Lol!

Yes, I had a blast discovering new places to dig for manga and anime. Indeed, part of the fun was the search and going to new places to see more than just the comic book stores.

I'm in the Palm Springs area, in a little burg not worth mentioning on any map. My family and I go to San Diego every year in the summer to get away from the heat for at least a week (it gets to be around 120F mid summer where I'm at).

Right now, I'm trying to complete my stupid Gundam quest. I committed to watching as much of the (way too many) incarnations as I can so that I can once and for all understand what's happening. I had better qualify my first statement...I do not in any way think that Gundam is stupid...I am stupid for being such an OCD about doing things a certain way. Once I get started on a series or concept, I can't shake it until it is complete and I've absorbed it all. With the goliath amount of series, movies and OVAs that is Gundam, I may have bitten more off than I can chew. We shall see. But I am dying to get through it all so that I can watch Fairy Tale and Beck.

I was fortunate enough to have seen Eden of the East before Funimation got axed from my local cable outlet. Thank the Good Lord for the internet, or else I would have been back in the same boat I was in 20+ years ago. I enjoyed it a lot. The concept was very imaginitive.

As you can tell, this message is replete with overatures to Gundam. I would recommend it if you have a supreme amount of spare time, but be prepared for going from feeling like you're in a bed of roses to watching someone drag their fingernails across a blackboard. It is definitely an investment.

Hear from you on the flip side!

I noticed your profile birth date awhile back, and I hope you don't mind me wishing you a happy birthday full of all your favorite anime and manga.

Wow. That's got to be frustrating. Watching Fairy Tale that long only to be left hanging like that. I'm assuming from all of the discussion I see that it must have been very entertaining along the way however. I have this knee jerk reaction to always avoid the most popular stuff until it is no longer popular. I hate to say it, but sometimes it works against me. I know I'm missing great shows like Bleach, One Piece, Full Metal Alchemist and others just because I have a weird proclivity.

I've seen a few episodes of Bleach and it looks pretty good, but I just can't bring myself to watch it yet.

I know what you mean about getting into the manga to get more out of the story from the anime. I've blasted through quite a few manga titles recently (Full Metal Panic; Love Hina; Ah My Goddess; and others). Back in the olden days (think the voice of the grandfather from the Simpsons) I had to travel to some pretty distant comic book stores in SoCal to find any decent manga titles...and I liked it that way!...just kidding. I found some cool titles that never made it to an anime format like Mai the Psychic Girl, Kamui and Xenon. Now I can see a scan of a full series in an instant.

I'm keeping notes with regards to the anime and manga that you mention. I enjoy checking out the new stuff. Thanks for bringing them up.
bakashimizu Mar 27, 2013 9:05 PM
I kind of felt that there was a number of open-ended plot elements there towards the end. I'm glad at least there's a plan to tie up those loose ends. I hate when the production companies only devote so much time to a great series. The one that angered me the most was how poorly treated School Rumble was. I would kill to see a complete final season. It's really sad that Jin Kobayashi also got screwed out of being able to either keep going with the manga or end the series properly.

I've been receiving a lot of suggestions to watch Fairy Tale recently. I know that I've got to watch it for sure now. I saw a couple of episodes when the Funimation channel was still around, but the schedule was so helter skelter I could never catch any consecutive episodes.

I also tried to watch Soul Eater on the Funimation channel. Same problem. That's probably why I couldn't get into it...that and I'm so stinking finicky about what I watch and listen to. I will have to give it another "shot" (not lame; I'm a dry humor connoisseur).

I just blasted through the first season of Squid Girl. Once again, my preconceptions prevented me from watching a very funny series. I thought it would be a lost cause premise, but it actually works...enough to make me laugh out loud on occasion. It's usually a miracle if a show can make me do that.
It’s time to ditch the text file.
