Pretty obvious they're going to keep this chapter/episode for the second season now. Considering a certain someone who hasn't appeared is in the episode a lot that's the better choice.

Oh yeah next issue of Shounen Ace has an important announcement for Sora no Oto, expect a second season for Fall 2010.

A bit sad about this but that's why we have a manga to look forward to.

lol Why are there so many volumes to such a short series???

The usual Japanese format for selling anime is putting as little as possible on a DVD/BD in order to make more money.

I knew it, they're saving the Astraea introduction for season 2.

So, why would Kadokawa dump a (propably) finished episode, if it wasn't for a new content on the next volume of discs?

They saw the fans response and decided they could make more money if they sell the final dvd without the special episode for the same price then sell special DVD for more profit?

I hope that this actually releases somewhere down the line. It's my only hope of season 2.

Hmm. As you mentioned this might be a sign for incoming S2.

"Postponed", so I believe they will release it after all, just not on the 7th volume as an extra. For now, I removed the release date and changed the type.

The episode was supposed to be based on chapter 27
here is a page from it:

Epic pool episode, lost forever...

Why put the same episode twice on the DVD, they could have just cut it.
