The official website of the Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari (The Rising of the Shield Hero) anime series announced on Monday that a fourth season is in production. The website also revealed an ultra teaser visual (pictured).

Produced by Kinema Citrus, the first season aired in 25 episodes in Winter 2019. The second and third seasons aired in Spring 2022 and Fall 2023, respectively. Crunchyroll streamed the anime series with English subtitles worldwide, excluding Asia.

Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari adapts Yusagi Aneko's adventure fantasy light novel of the same title, which originally launched on the Shousetsuka ni Narou website in October 2012. Kadokawa began printing the novel with illustrations by Seira Minami the following August. The 22nd volume was released in June 2019. The series has a cumulative 11 million copies of its volumes in circulation.

Kyu Aiya began serializing a manga adaptation in Comic Flapper in February 2014. Kadokawa shipped the 24th volume in November 2023.

One Peace Book licensed both the light novel and manga in English in 2015. The 22nd light novel volume went on sale in December 2021, and the 21st manga volume was released in September 2023.

This anime has a fourth season now

Meanwhile other good animes that only had 1 season containing 12 episodes on average: Why are we still here, just to suffer

Great anime
Looking forward to it

@Playcool

If that would be the case, then I would happy. I won't be waiting for it though.

To people saying it fell off alter S1: disagree. I fell off after episode 4 of season 1. HARD. It's just S2 and S3 were feeling like a badly produced filler, but the rest of S1 was "kinda mid", as the zoomers like to say.

And, for real, after the episode 21 of S1, there was not EVEN A REASON TO CONTINUE THIS SHOW, the main conflict was solved and the main hock were gone. NO ONE cares about the hordes.

Of course it would become a generic fighting harem isekai post-that. At that point, it was milking.

@Raideroz-nim You are only saying that, to then have people praise the ending of S4 and get you into watching it, and you reaching the conclusion that at least S4 was worth it, but had to go through tons of filler-like plot to get to the good stuff.

I know money speaks, but a lot of people seem to have already dropped it.

@Playcool
I don't understand your point, could you speak proper language?

Jan 23, 4:43 PM by Raideroz-nim

This was expected, they didnt do S3, to stop at this mid plot.
Rest assured the ending of S4 will be fucking BOMB, if adapted with this staff, this is what they wanted to do all long, pure feels.
When we had none of them since early S1.

Why is it so poorly reviewed, whats the problem with it? Was thinking about watching it.

Binge watch it, S1 and S3 should be fun enough for you, and S4 will be emotional.

Raideroz-nim said:
Tbh. I had high hopes after s1, but it turned out to be one big disappointment. And it's not even about the execution anymore. S3 was probably my last one.

I'll never forget my feelings when I watched the series for the first time , my feelings were a blend of anger , suspense , love and satisfaction by the end . It was a masterpiece indeed.
When I started watching the 2nd season I suddenly felt empty , as if nothing is going on ,thus I felt something is off and I had to drop it temporarely because if I keep watching it's like wasting water on a sand as I feel nothing and no longer connected to the story and characters anymore. As an anime only fan I didn't care that much for the low ratings but despite all of this , turns out the series went down for sure.
While it's good the anime continues , I doubt that we're going to see another masterpeice season full of mixed feelings and development like Season 1.
As the rule says : " keep your expectations low and you'll never get disappointed " .
Let's hope at least we get a full adaptation , maybe things will be close to the greatness of S1 by the time the ending unfolds.

Seasons 2 and 3 of Shield Hero felt like the rebuilding era of a sports franchise, an era where players still go out and compete, but they only do that to bide their time, to continue to satiate fans and bring in some money, but for the most part, they're just waiting for draft picks and players to mature so that, at some point, they can be competitive again.

I want Shield Hero to rise again, I really do, but it's hard to believe it's been in anything other than "rebuilding mode" ever since its second season. I was excited in the first 3 episodes of season 3, but that excitement quickly vanished when the show failed to address the flaws of season 2, espcially in the way the characters were treated. Naofumi, the titular hero, became a supporting character or a glorified extra in his show.

At this point, I've lost hope that Shield Hero will rise to the level of glory it had all the way back in season 1, but I have hope that the show will be good again. We'll just have to wait and see what season 4 has in store for us, but one thing is certain: much of the excitement around this show has vanished. The anime landscape is very competitive and fans have largely moved on to the next big thing. If fans return to watch Shield Hero again, they will probably do it with a more cautious, "fool me once" mentality. I know I will.

If Star Trek can make a comeback, so can Shield Hero.

Pretty dissapointing how the series just went bust for me after S1

Jan 23, 10:04 AM by Curiouswanderer

Ooh heck yeah baby šŸ˜ I was waiting for the announcement. Now it's over

Jan 23, 9:51 AM by Ricky16

@OiGon Interesting, so they probably weren't expecting that this series would turn worse.

Thank you for the fun fact :)

Jan 23, 8:15 AM by Rinrinka

This series is on some serious downward spiral. Not hoping season four to change anything in this regard.

I miss those days when it was used to be watchable enough.

Jan 23, 6:31 AM by Softhenic03

Dropping a fun fact here: Out of 400k people who added season 3 on their list, 264k of it are people who added it to their plan to watch list. This show is on everyone's plan to watch, but nobody actually watches it. It's because season 3 was added to the database in 2019 when the show still had hype around it. So people put it on their plan to watch but then forgot about it over the years.

Good news honestly, that s3 build-up are not wasted at least.
Looking foward for it

Jan 22, 7:25 PM by RioAl

Oh these are some interesting news right here... I'll catch season 3 in the way.
