The special program commemorating the 30th anniversary of the Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon anime announced on Thursday that it will receive a new two-part anime movie sequel adapting the Shadow Galactica arc, which is the final arc of Naoko Takeuchi's manga. The official site also revealed the main staff, a teaser visual (pictured), and a teaser trailer. The movies, titled Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon Cosmos, are scheduled to open in theaters in early Summer 2023.

Staff
Director: Tomoya Takahashi (Gatchaman Crowds assistant director)
Script: Kazuyuki Fudeyasu (Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon Eternal)
Character Design: Kazuko Tadano (Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon)
Music: Yasuharu Takanashi (Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon Crystal)
Art Director: Yumiko Koga (Umibe no Étranger)
Studio: Toei Animation, Studio Deen

Commemorating the original series' 20th anniversary, the reboot was announced in 2012, with the aim to adapt the manga more faithfully. The first two anime seasons, covering the Dark Kingdom and Black Moon arcs, streamed semimonthly on Niconico beginning July 2014, and later premiered on television in Spring 2015. The third season, based on the Infinity arc, aired in Spring 2016.

The latest two-part movie sequel, Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon Eternal, opened in theaters on January 8 and February 11 last year.

VIZ Media licensed all three anime seasons in North America and streamed them through Hulu. The company released the first season on Blu-ray and DVD in August 2016, and the second and third in February and December 2017, respectively. Crunchyroll also simulcast the anime seasons as they ran in Japan.

Well, it's taken almost TEN YEARS, but the Crystal adaption is finally almost over.

It’s going to be far more depressing than the Sailor Stars arc back in the late 90s I heard.

I really have to pick up Sailor Moon Crystal again and watch the Eternal movies.

Fair enough, but a worthless director. No doubt that'll cramp an otherwise decent storyline.

Looking forward to it.
I liked the Sailor Stars Arc in the Manga.

So glad to see they're gonna adapt the whole manga after all. And since it's a movie it'll likely have good quality.

This is some pretty nice news -- I just recently finished reading the manga after really enjoying the Crystal series so far. So, I'm looking forward to seeing the Stars Arc animated.

Sailor Moon Crystal + Eternal has been very faithful to the original manga albeit with a few changes... hope that answers what I think is your question.

Yeah, that sort of does actually, thanks!

And basically, what I asked for earlier was whether or not the Shadow Galactica arc was adapted in the 90s/00s?
I'd say Sailor Stars VERY loosely covered this arc since the actual events in the manga are a lot more straight to the point in being far more depressing.

Though the entire manga as a whole is generally more tragic and filler-less compared to the 90s anime lol

@Fario-P Cool, that’s just what I needed to hear! Banzai to more faithful remakes.

Okay, that’s good to see!

I’ve been planning to give the remake a shot for a while now.

For those already familiar with the series, will this adapt bits that were covered in the past adaptions?
