Studio Chizu announced a new anime movie by director Mamoru Hosoda (Mira no Mirai, Bakemono no Ko) titled Ryuu to Sobakasu no Hime (The Dragon and the Freckled Princess) on Wednesday.

The movie, also billed by its English Belle, will take place inside the virtual world of "U" along with its 5 billion registered users, focusing on the themes of coming of age, family ties, and the links between our lives. The feature is expected to be released in Japan in Summer 2021, commemorating the 10th anniversary of Studio Chizu.

The title marks Hosoda's ninth anime movie and first feature since Mira no Mirai in 2018, which won Animation of the Year at the 42nd Japan Academy Prize and was nominated for Best Animated Feature at the 91st Academy Awards.

After making his directorial debut with Digimon: The Movie in 1999, Hosoda went on to direct Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo (The Girl Who Leapt Through Time) and Summer Wars in 2006 and 2009 respectively, which earned him critical acclaim. He co-founded Studio Chizu in 2011.

Mamoru Hosoda movies are always welcome, mostly because I love the animation work in his works. And he's stuck with the same overall style for 2 decades now, fluid movement and expressive faces

Digimon, Our War Game! is still one of my favorite movies.

The visuals look đź‘Ś, I'm excited

Sounds similar to Summer Wars, which I enjoyed. After the mediocre Mirai, I'm hoping this is a homerun for Hosoda.

Looks pretty good but I've never been a fan of Hosoda films, hope this one can change my opinion

I've seen most of his movies, still a few stragglers, but I'm excited for this. Promo art looks promising, though there's obviously not much to go by.

Seems to be a recurring theme in his films

Hosoda has made a career off films that fall into that niche but ultimately are about normal people struggling through other worldly situations. I'm certainly a fan of his but that's not to say I love all his films.

Comming of age, family themes again, huh.

The only film by Mamoru Hosoda I've seen is Wolf Children and I've liked it, so I'm going to check this one out too.
