Yasutaka Tsutsui's Mystery Novel 'Fugou Keiji' Gets TV Anime

Aniplex opened an official website for a television anime based on Yasutaka Tsutsui's mystery novel Fugou Keiji (The Millionaire Detective) on Thursday. Titled Fugou Keiji Balance:Unlimited, the anime will premiere in April 2020 on Fuji TV's noitaminA programming block. The main cast, staff, a key visual (pictured), and a promotional video were also unveiled.

Synopsis
Daisuke Kanbe, a detective with extraordinary assets, is assigned to the Modern Crime Prevention Headquarters, where only those who have caused problems for the Metropolitan Police Department are sent. There, Daisuke is partnered with Haru Katou. Haru is repulsed by Daisuke's material ways, believing that money isn't everything. Challenging mysteries unfold in front of the two detectives, and they must work together to solve them.

Yuusuke Oonuki, a stage actor and dancer, lands his first anime voice acting role as Daisuke Kanbe. Veteran voice actor Mamoru Miyano (Chihayafuru) will play Haru Katou.

Fugou Keiji is a series of four short stories published by Shousetsu Shinchou between 1975 and 1977. Shinchosha published a combined volume of all four stories in May 1978. The novel has over 1.11 million copies in circulation. The story was adapted into a live-action TV drama in 2005.

I suppose we will have to see how it does in popularity. These sorts of thing tend to be really good but don't garner too much attention which is a shame.

I'm loving the trend of ikemen characters solving mysteries. MC is super hot and his voice is an eargasm! I lost it with that sneer at the end. It airs on noitaminA so I hope they are aiming for a female audience by upping the MC sex appeal and bromance.

Many of you do not know this, but the synopsis sounds exactly like a 1000 TV-dramas on Japanese broadcasting networks. They change the trait of the character, and throw a new story for him.
Okay yeah I watched the trailer and it looks more generic than I even imagined it would. Well, entertainment for the masses, sure.
I wish China would suddenly "find" an epidemic that destroys computer data. Cringe, but seriously... I might watch the first episode to ascertain myself and keep crying, or be disproven and smile a little. Stay tuned...

Decent staff, that's for sure. We'll get something at least average from this anime I hope.
But this news moderator (vanillaguard) is certainly funny, isn't he? Out of all the shows the "veteran voice actor" Mamoru Miyano took part in, he had to bring up Chihayafuru -.-

Quite a few mystery novels/manga being adapted this year. This again looks interesting, and if Cloverworks are doing it I'll probably check it out.

Ooooo both the director and script writer who worked on Boku dake's script are coming back yo! Honestly in spite of what some people might say about Boku dake tho, I thought they did an interesting job with the anime to some capacity.

As someone who's not too keen with mystery stuff as a genre, I'll see if I can give this one a shot. ^^

OMG! Definitely going to watch this!!! Just my type of anime! It looks like we are getting a resurgence of the mystery genre in anime recently and i'm loving it since i love mystery series!!!! Also, it's based on an old novel so that makes it even better, it will actually have competent writing and none of the things from modern anime that i dislike! :D

Ohhhhh yeaaah, I like how it looks, def gonna watch it. That hot MC though, looks like Yuri Katsuki gone bad.

Is anyone familiar with the source material? Is it good? All I found googling it was that MC was supposed to be a woman - I’d actually enjoy that even more like that.
