The official website of the Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei (The Irregular at Magic High School) anime series announced on Sunday that its second season, Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei: Raihousha-hen (The Irregular at Magic High School: Visitor Arc), will premiere in July 2020. Aniplex also posted a 15-second commercial.

The second season is being directed by Risako Yoshida (Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei: Hoshi wo Yobu Shoujo) at animation studio 8bit. Returning staff members include original illustrator Kana Ishida as the character designer and music composer Taku Iwasaki (Noragami, Katanagatari). Main cast members from the previous anime installments are reprising their roles.

The first season adapting Tsutomu Satou's sci-fi action novel by Madhouse aired in Spring 2014. The Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei: Hoshi wo Yobu Shoujo anime film screened in Japan in June 2017.

Satou originally launched the novel on the Shousetsuka ni Narou website in 2008. Dengeki Bunko began publishing the novel with illustrations by Kana Ishida (Shounen Maid, Wakaba*Girl) in July 2011. Kadokawa shipped the 30th volume on October 10.

Those lips are worse than the imagined lip of Kakashi from that one episode looool

Also, when did it go to the gutter? I paused after ln 9 or 10, but was planning to read a bunch this summer and catch up...

The LN was a drag to read from the start to the end, vol 1 to vol 19 where I stopped I think, the second season will likely be the 2nd year and as far as I remember it's longer than the first year.... I dunno if you want me to spoil the LN but, I didnt liked how vol 18/19 made its turn... I just can't... also cause the english translation were slow...

Ah okay, thanks for the reply. Sucks to hear you didn't like the LN. I prefer no spoilers with this series. Though I am curious about what turned you off at vol18/19...

Well here's hoping s2 is good!

And Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card-hen. (Don't forget this masterpiece)

Pretty sure nothing since they adapted Overlord 2.

Few in number compared to their entire oeuvre, you gotta admit.
My guess is that they went 'Oh dam we adapted 2 more of Overlord. If we keep adapting trash series our studio may go broke' and that's just my guess.

Ah shit here we go again. Its the return of tactical nuke Jesus MC.

And maybe also the return of magic battle high settings.

Honestly I'm rather hopeful with the sequel, tho I'm hoping it'll turn out well despite the first season being... yeah. Not that great.

Blame production committe for that, not studio. Facts that there are series that can get sequel from Madhouse. Because production committe can be patient for waiting until Madhouse is available (look at Chihayafuru S2 and S3 gap)
You're likely right. There seems to be a lot of studio hopping these days.
