Well, anime is an expensive luxury good, even in Japan. The cost of living in Japan isn't 5 times higher than the states

I didn't mean US, i meant "us" like "we" :P Well, living in US is 2 times more expensive than living in my country, so I thought Japan is much more expensive than an average European country. I guess you got my point.
But, to be clear, I don't think that box isn't expensive. It really is, as stated many times on this thread, for die hard fans. I would give the most 100$ for box with FULL series.

Are they for real? what in that box could possibly be worth that amount of money?

They are obviously targeting Japanese market. 500$ for Japanese is like 100$ for us probably. Only reason why this actually is pretty expensive is, because it is only first half of anime.

Maybe if I was a millionaire. Dam it though, I want to watch the Blue ray version so bad. I Really need to see the uncut scenes.

We'll just have to deal with BD rips when it comes out and wait patiently for a Sane and hopefully not shitty US/Rest of world release :(

Well Tokyo is the Most Expensive City in the world to live in; what do you expect? For us who're not living in Japan it maybe too much for us to handle maybe if we lived there we would pretty much understand why.

To be fair, the price quoted in the OP is the suggested retail price, which is rarely what it's actually sold at; some places are already setting up pre-orders for them at 20-30% off:

¥29,526 is roughly ~$390 USD. That's still a lot by NA standards, but there you go.

Edit: Apparently, Fate/Zero is now the top most pre-ordered DVD/BD on Amazon.jp.

Can't say I find the price surprising.

The surprising part is that there are so people out there that will pay the full price. Wish I had that much disposable income.

Do you guys think there'll be one big box set with all 25 episodes once both seasons have finished airing?

No wonder they're breaking it into 2 seasons. This show obviously took a lot of money and time to animate.

Not to mention the value of the dollar is complete shit right now. Stuff from most other countries would sound really expensive in dollar amounts.

How come it seems like everytime theres a news post here that mentions price, everyone acts shocked? I'd figure by now anyone who looks at these news posts would know the price of anime in Japan.

I'm shocked every time I see it regardless, but then again I'm a jobless broke college student. I'd have to sacrifice a lot to spend this much money on anime. The fact they can get away with this in Japan and the devotion of fans amazes me.

Holy fuck. That's expensive as hell for only half of the series. It might just hit $1000 for the whole set...

Guess only the die-hard fans are gonna get this one.

No show is worth $525, not by a long shot.

I really hate the current OST policy of Aniplex. The OSTs of nearly all their current animes, are only bundled with the Blu-Ray Releases and not released as stand-alone OSTs. As a collector of anime OSTs, I am really annoyed, especially because I would buy the Madoka or Fate/Zero OSTs if they would be released seperately.

It might come with a Saber figurine. That seems standard for Type-Moon limited editions these days.

Are you sure? KnK's BR box came with uh, nothing.

I've never bought anime before but I was going to make an exception for Fate/Zero. I knew it was going to be a lot, but it had best be much cheaper for its American release. I'm hesitant to even pay 100$. Guess I'll probably end up buying a normal dvd set.

I'd pay$100 for it even if it was only subbed.

$525....then shipping and taxes? Not a chance.

Things that $525 will buy.

Car payment.
Months rent. (depending on where you live of course)
Gas and groceries for a month.
10 anime box sets instead of 1.
A PS3, 360 as well as a Wii. (used of course)
About 9 latest release current generation games.

Any one of those for half....HALF a series and a couple little bonuses. I'm sorry, buying that doesn't make you more of a fan than anyone else. It means you either A) have a lot of spare income with little sense or B) really bad priorities.
