Jmal said (re Ami):

"All the while hating herself for it, hating being the "mature one" when she knew she had her own problems, hating that everyone leaned on her when she wanted someone to lean on at the same time. It added a really wonderful dimension to her character. And it gave us a really natural, logical reason, for once, for the hot popular girl to fall for the unpopular male protagonist. Fancy that.

Ami's brilliance as a character really knows no bounds. What was done with her has been rarely matched, especially among high school romances. Toradora! has very few equals in that genre (a genre I usually like mind you, just not always for the quality of the character writing)."

Thank you for this. What you said reminds me how sick I was getting of the formulaic structure of shounen romances until this one came along. My best guess as to why the boy characters in these romances are such utter dunces and makes such routines mistakes of understanding of their beloved girls is that this makes the stories more attractive to the intended audience, young teen boys. The perpetual bumbling of the boy characters, and both main characters' constant misunderstanding of the intentions of the other, in these stories may be even worse than the inexperienced boys have to go through in their real-life interactions with girls, thus reassuring such readers that they're normal. And misunderstandings are the mother's milk of romantic comedy, after all. The stories are entertaining to me because they remind me of my youth, so I guess I won't ask so much of them any more. Still, when I find one this artful I guess I'll go on being thrilled.

Believe it or not, the first romance of this kind in which I found a bit of true artfulness and truth was "Strawberry 100%". Despite the boy character's perpetually maidenly rejection of his own desires, and the way the story was strung out endlessly (probably to rake in more $$ from subscribers), the story did have a steady theme of what a struggle it is to grow up, and the female characters were lovable and beautifully drawn. Furthermore, there was a reasonable ending in which the said main boy chose just the girl that I would have chosen!

Every once in a while there's such a good shounen love manga. Another one was "Monkey High".

"One of" and "main" are very different things. If you didn't want a reply based specifically on what you said, say it more precisely next time.

Yes sir, sorry sir, never happen again sir, truely sorry sir, im dirt sir, sorry sir now quit arguing about something stupid sir.....Anywho, my thoughts on the OVA. Like most people, im wishing for an afterstory, much like the true ending of the Toradora VN for PSP where she ends up pregnant, but getting my hopes up is probably a waste of time, since chances are its gonna be an extra episode somewhere in the middle. If it indeed ended up being an afterstory i think alot of people would be quite happy

This is true. Its an amazing romance story, but Ami's main purpose is to show off her body.

If all you saw in Ami was a hot body, the problem isn't in the show's writing, it's with you. Ami was in many ways the most complex and most interesting character in the entire show.

Wow dude, first off, I didn't say once that the show's writing had a problem, see my rating for Toradora and youd know that. Secondly, Ami is a great character and there aren't many like her, and maybe her MAIN purpose isn't fanservice, but it is one of her purposes, wouldn't you agree?

I would LOVE for it to be an OVA on Taiga pregnant or something among those lines but sadly thats impossible

If you're talking about animating Toradora!'s Visual novel that adds an additional arc to the story and actually has a conclusive and satisfactory ending for Taiga

I really doubt it, since I've never seen that happen before. It may be because those VN are treated as mere additional content aimed at those dissatisfied with the original story's ending, or something along those lines.

"Ami is the most complex character in the show and she is first to point all the faults of the characters in the shows. The show is all about facades and she was the first to break it and she also break the other characters facade with brutal honestly. The sad thing she appeared too late so she couldnt get ryuuji. She's actually the most matured in the cast because its aware what is happening around her."

Right! She's like a really smart onee-san who loves teenage you so much that she follows your life in detail, and occasionally comments on it wisely out of her experience as an adult--in the guise of a fanservice character! So many of theses teenage stories stumble on endlessly through a barrage of tiresome mistakes brought on by lack of experience. With Ami around there is at least someone AVAILABLE to the characters in the story--and, luckily, to us--to tell what's really going on.

She is as amazing a factor in the story as the amazing loyalty of the male lead character (Sorry, can't remember names). Without that loyalty, it would have taken someone like Taiga years longer to get mature enough to get a boyfriend. IMHO she might never have been able to do that, due to having been repeatedly emotionally abandoned by her father.

Lol @ people who claim Ami as just fanservice

Other than that, I would LOVE for it to be an OVA on Taiga pregnant or something among those lines but sadly thats impossible, the news claims that it's in the MIDDLE of the series (unaired), meaning made but not released, so I doubt its a sequel in anyway, as some said it might be a fanservice, or just some non-impactful episode that wasn't necessary for the story. Not that im not looking forward to it but yeah don't get your hopes up people. Oh and don't worry, I just rained on my parade as well lol.

Toradora is a true romance unlike many others with only fan service.

Ami is fanservice.

This is true. Its an amazing romance story, but Ami's main purpose is to show off her body. Recall Taiga saying "Stupid Chiuaua is like...boing and...boing and...BOING!!"

I'm so glad to hear all this commenting about Toradora again. After watching a bunch of anime since I got into it this time a year ago, I just watch Toradora and have to say that it was the best love story I've seen (followed closely by Monkey High).

it would be useless if it is not plotted after that last episode!
