Yes so, I've time to time gotten PM's about who the character in my signature is etc. and it've, in most cases, followed with the question "Where can I read it?"
So, I decided to make a thread about it. It'll be easier to just link it and this may give others attention to read it!

But before I start writing where to read it I thought I'd share my personal opinion on this novel;
I think it's the best novel I've ever read. The story, the characters, the action, it's superb in every aspect. Most of the time I'm not the type to take liking to the main characters at all, I usually find the side characters more interesting. But that's impossible here, the main character; Ryougi Shiki, is just amazing!
Not only the main character, but even the more of "side characters" are great as well. I can't really call any of the characters appearing as side characters though as most of them take a big part of the story.
Personally I think the third chapter, "Remaining Sense of Pain" is the best one(I shan't speak any further about it here, I'll just end up writing spoilers).

Anyways, lets move on to the main point of this thread!

Where can I read this light novel in English?
Baka-Tsuki have translated a big part of it, well about half the novel. After that the translation have been rather dead, though the translation might continue soon/later/never I don't know.
They've translated chapter 1-4, and about one third(?) of chapter 5.
If you're really eager and want to know what happens after this you could take a visit to The Moonlit World and read the synopsis of the remaining chapters here. Or you could always wait for the translations by Baka-Tsuki, or wait for the movies to be released.

I know Japanese and I want to read this
Then you could always order the volumes at Himeyashop.

I think that was about everything.
Thank you for reading.

Oh yeah, the character in my signature is a young version of Aozaki Touko taken from Type-Moon's Character Material book.

I've ordered both volumes of the book for myself this Christmas, though I can't read Japanese well without a dictionary, but I've always preferred reading books (and manga) in just that, book format. Personally I find it silly reading books on the computer (manga, to some extent) I guess you could say this is the push for me to continue improving my meager 70ish Kanji vocab. Just wanted to say that.

EDIT: I ordered the paperback reprint cause it's cheaper lulz.

2 year edit: I OWN THE BOOK. TOO LAZY TO LEARN MOONSPEAK. READ 2 CHAPTERS

well i just read a korean translation which is very well translated. I've also read the american translations on baka tsuki but its really inferior in comparison by a lot. Plus they're really far from completing the book since the first four chapters are extremely short while chap 5-7 is really long

Well, 7 months late for you, but for anyone else, Baka-Tsuki's stopped their translation project because Del Rey has apparently licensed the light novels to release sometime in 2009.

Hell yeah. And I really wanted to read that... Thanks to Del Ray, I'll probably never do that =='. Manga isn't popular in my country and costs of shipping (+costs of manga volumes) are too high for most people living here. The only way is to read manga online.
So I hate licence ==.

Has there been any news recently on the Del Ray license? Like when it will be released in the states?

I've been on this hunt for quite some time now. Not a huge fan of reading manga online either. Basically Del Rey's site has nothing on Kara no Kyoukai. I exhausted all the leads on Google. I gave up and just ordered Faust1 to see the summary. I guess Del Rey is going to wait till Christmas. Or not!

I'm currently reading the first novel, it's awesome and it contains much more little detail than the anime does. I really hope that USA will get the license soon, 'cause this is a *must buy* novel.

I think it was pretty much confirmed to be dropped.
At least on indefinite hold.

This topic is quite old..... the best fan translation that I know of was the one by mirrormoon, but they removed it from their site with the news that it has been licensed. I can't seem to find any releases of the book in other languages by the licensing company, however... it seems they published a single chapter in their Faust anthology and then dropped it.

You can probably find the mirrormoon version floating around if you look hard enough.

I am a banana.

I actually got them when he "released" them. I was to read them, but I've been putting it off.

Is there still no news about official translation? From what I have gathered it seems they have dropped it.

Nop.
It once was licensed by Del-Rey , but they dropped it after Chapter 1. (I don't know if their company itself is still active...)
