Which is the better? Did really Gonzo mess up the anime adaption? I was planning on watching this but maybe I should go with the manga.

I mean: Manga 8.50 Anime 7.50

7.50 isn't a bad score, but 8.50 is much better. I prefer watching anime before reading manga but if the story lacks in the anime, I don't think music, sound, voices and colors will compensate.

Actually, Gonzo did an excellent adaptation - at least until the end, which was one massive CF. IIRC, the anime did a near-perfect job of following the manga until the last game. The game itself wasn't terrible (just off), but the aftermath was pathetic.

The main things are that the ending of the anime was pointless and stupid, while what happened after where the anime deviated was where the manga got really interesting. As such, it's only natural that the manga would be considered significantly superior.

Yes, Manga version FTW

On which episode does the anime deviate? Lets say I watch until that episode, then I go read the manga instead? B)

The deviation starts after the end of the third game (when Kei stands up to the Gantz).

*checks DVD*

The third game ends in episode 21. The vast majority of the material in eps 22-26 is original. Ep 22 introduces a new group of original characters, and the final game kicks off from there.

Ah, I assume the whole first season is faithful to the manga.

So I watched the whole anime and I thought It was really good. I'm definitely going to read the manga. I'd like the manga to finish first before i read it. Anyone have a clue when it will finish?

Definitely read the manga, as it continues the story.

The anime is one of my all-time favorites, and I, unlike some people, actually liked the final arc, which they made specifically for the anime. But ya, since it doesn't look like they're going to make a new season anytime soon, read the manga. The story goes way farther than the anime. There's probably enough new content in the manga to make three or four new seasons. o_O

From Wikipedia: "As of chapter 303, the series has been put in hiatus once again in order to let Oku prepare in the making of the final arc of the series. The 33rd issue from Weekly Young Jump announced that the series will continue in the issue 44 scheduled to be published in October from 2009."

The anime is nothing comparing to manga. Some episodes are incredibly horrible.

Yeah, it's all about the manga on this one. The anime just goes off to die in some filler hell digression where shit gets real in the manga.

Actually I think the anime starts to deviate in the first season with the old woman who asked for directions becoming some kind of faux philosophical BS of the Gantz ball.

do u have to wait in the manga too?

by wait i mean do the characters take 3 episodes to get the courage to shoot something? Do the aliens take another 3 episodes to actually attack?
and do the characters take 13 episodes to get some balls or 3 chapters?

LOL. Now I'm definitely avoiding the anime. Already blazed through 3 volumes of the manga in just 1 day.
"...our faces marked by toil, by deceptions, by success, by love; our weary eyes looking still, looking always, looking anxiously for something out of life, that while it is expected is already gone – has passed unseen, in a sigh, in a flash – together with the youth, with the strength, with the romance of illusions.” - Joseph Conrad ('Youth')

I think you should watch/ read both Manga and Anime. I mean its really interesting to see how Kurono's voice is and how the manga looks in color, I prefer the Manga since it goes on longer but its up to you both were great
