After watching this episode 4th time I still have this dumb smile on my face... Anyway, some might think that the way Banri shut down Koko is "cruel" and whatnot, but the real cruel thing is the friend zone that she was forcing on him. It is my strong belief that when there's a romantic attraction there can't be such thing as "just friends". A guy will always want more and hope that one day she will see his value and finally be his. But guess what, that day is never coming cause between a good guy friend (pet) and a d!ck boyfriend who treats her like trash she will most likely pick the boyfriend.
Friend zone is a woman's cruel way of telling a man "you are not worthy to be by my side as a lover and an equal, but I want to keep you around as a pet". It's very painful to go through something like that, so if it happens to you please do yourself a favor and do exactly what my boy Banri did in this episode.

I thought they did a very good job with this episode. For the people that feel it is moving too fast, at the end of episode 6 they are at the end of volume 2 of the novels. That is exactly where Toradora! was at the same point, except they added two anime only episodes in as well. Most of the Toradora! novels were covered in two episodes, with a couple getting three and three anime only or short-story based episodes.

As for the "she doesn't really love Banri" concept, in the light novel she said considerably more before telling him she loves him.

I hope they finish the scene at the end of book 2 at the beginning of the next episode! If not it will suck!

They did a good job of showing Kouko's growing affection for Banri earlier in the episode though. The look on her face when Linda was giving the shoes to Banri was clearly jealousy. She was upset that another girl was lavishing attention on Banri like that and wondered what their relationship was. Also, when Banri told her he was done waiting, she tried desperately to get him to listen to her explanation and told him she didn't want to stop being friends, but he wouldn't listen and wouldn't wait.

In short, I don't think it was too rushed... :)

A nice and detailed explanation. Thanks for this. I was desperately try to understand and catch the pace of this episode but couldn't.

But after i read your comment, things brighter a little. Thank You :)

I hope, this anime gets better and better, as i can see a good prospect for this one.

@zensunni

While I agree that the pacing in Toradora was about 2-3 episodes per volume of the LN, Toradora had the luxury of having 20 episodes before the snowstorm scene so even though some small details, events and hints about the main pair's growing affection were omitted still there was more than enough to make most of the people convinced that there really was love between them.

Putting that aside, some people were perplexed by Ryuuji's decision because of the exclusion of all that thinking that he did in the LN ( basically the first half of the 9th volume). And I still think that one more episode would make the final arc explained better on the character motivation side.

If those kind of hints (I already mentioned one from the manga) were included in GT - then it wouldn't be needed explaining why she confessed.

That's what I thought with the abrupt confession cliffhanger too.
Could only hope they elaborate the reasons on why she likes him with the next episode, otherwise leaving it with just a 'i like you' line creates a misunderstanding to the audience that makes it look like as if she's just desperate to keep banri as a friend. D:

It never fails to amaze me with its somewhat predictable escalations in plot line! :D One for the Kaga x Tada team.
-

I've always... always been watching you... This whole time... Because you were there... That's why I was able to try hard. So you could have some balance! So you wouldn't treat me like a kid! So you would see me as an actual girl! Even while you were gone... You were right here! You were right here in my heart!

So, more high scho- I mean College drama...yea, College :P

But really, this episode gave the anime a much more serious tone. I felt it building up in the previous episodes, but it just exploded here. Even I'm not sure of who's gonna wind up with who in the end. Usually J.C. Staff's romantic comedies are relatively predictable (not saying that's necessarily a bad thing), but I'm rather enjoying the shocking turn of events here. I'm looking forward to more of this well thought out character development.

I was really glad Tada told off Kouko like that. He was speaking the truth. I was waiting for him to snap like that for a while now, to be honest. I do feel though, that scene was a bit rushed... Going from Kouko being drunk to that. I think they could have transitioned that part a bit better. This episode felt a bit rushed... Since this show is going to be 24 episodes, I think they could have built up to these moments more...

But anyways, as usual, the tea club is amazing.

Oh yeah, and am I the only one that felt bad for Mitsuo? Haha. I really wish he had more screentime, I really like him.

I am definitely more for LindaxBanri more than KoukoxBanri even though it was pretty obvious how Linda acted more like an older sister towards Banri... Unless there's something more to the both of them that we haven't seen yet. I hate to admit it, but I can see Kouko falling in love with Banri later on though. Like someone else mentioned earlier, I hope there will be a sort of alternate ending where Banri ends up with Linda, something like in the alternate universes for Clannad.

I honestly did not expect Golden Time to be this good! In fact, I thought this was gonna be one of the shows I would drop this season. I haven't watched a RomCom this good in a long time... Looking forward to the next episode! Can't really see Kouko and Banri getting any better anytime soon as her confession was definitely spur of the moment. Oh, and I feel like Linda was going to say yes to Banri that day... Hm. I will definitely be reading the manga+light novel after this series is over.

Thanks for your explanation , it makes Kouko's declaration clearer ^^

Concerning the episode , I found it was the best until now . Well , to be frank , I think it keeps getting better with each episode . There is everything I expect in an anime like this , particularly in this episode : funny scenes (Oka's rejection and the scene with the Tea Club were hilarious) and especially drama scenes , in this case the scene with Linda , and the declaration at the end . I really can't wait to see how it will evolve in the next episodes and become better :D

Wait what do u mean by 6 chaps to go? Are u saying there's only 6 chap left from the light novel to be adapt to the anime? Or by 6 chap u mean 6 episode left? This is a 2 cour anime. And also, for those who read the light novel what volume is the anime at right now? there is like 7 vol + 2 side story of the novel iirc right

I was specifically talking about the manga. Episode 6 ended in the manga at chapter 20 and the light novel at Volume 2 Chapter 4. The manga currently has 26 chapters out.

The one thing that has been progressing a little bit to fast is the relationship between Kaga and Tada, suggesting there is still much drama ahead of us.
Main things i have been wondering about is the part with Linda it's obvious something must have happened besides the confession the thing that stood out was Tada's name missing on the shirt plus his accident.
My theory from this is that the accident might not have been a accident at all and someone was deliberately out for Tada, there are some questions with this theory.
First one is who was the person responsible for the names on the shirts and who was driving the scooter and where they the same person.
Second question is why did they do it, if it was done deliberately there must have been some reason behind it.

It just seems to me that the accident and the names on the shirts was a bit to much of a coincidence.

Yeah...it made me not like Banri even more. It was also pretty confusing. The flashback seemed like a dream that Banri was having and his name was actually on the t-shirt but he forgot his name.

It was really hard for me to choose who i'd ship Tada Banri and Kaga Kouko or Tada Banri and Linda, right now it's Kaga because she confessed. But was a real confession or did she just say it in spite?

Yes or No?Banri never got an answer because of what happened on the bridge.
Obviously was going to be a yes though.

Lol at the Tea Club and at Banri sacrificing Mitsuo and Kouko.

When Banri was on the bridge and was hit by Kouko I was scared cause I thought he was going to fall off the bridge. He was getting pretty desperate there,"If I fall again...can I do everything over?"

"I love you."
Hmm,Kouko confessed.I just hope her feelings for him are genuine and not just so he will stay with her.

I think they will stick together. The director didn't put this words in the anime but exist in both manga and novel and that is kouko said to banri when she confess :-

"Where did you try to go!? Don't do that ever again, don't go anywhere, don't go running away! Don't go somewhere my hand, my voice cannot reach! Don't go anywhere, stay where I am all the time! I mean, prepare yourself, because I'm not letting go!"

well in the anime it just shorten to "Please stay with me forever"

Kouko confess, not sure she really love him or just don't want to be alone. Banri was the first guy friend that she had since misou.. And Misou never did give her the feeling of being cared of loved. In spite of it, Bandri gave her the attention she always wanted, but since banri say don't want to be friend anymore she don't want to be alone. No the scene at 16:40 shows that Kouko has made acquaintances or is no longer alone. She stood out that building waiting for Banri from noon till night, when she could have confessed at any other time she wanted to confess to Banri immediately. Together this shows that she at least cares for the relationship they share. Nothing to do with loneliness or anything.

The Sting of Rejection is the weapon to weild against a burning chemical romance.

in a situation of an interested party and uninterested party here is what is needed:
the interested party must pursue the resolution of a confession once initiated, whether it is success or failure.
Once a Chemical Romance starts it must be handled before it gets out of hand and skews the mental state of the interested party.

the uninterested party must participate and not withhold an answer, whether it is accept or refuse.
the quicker the Sting is administered the quicker and less painful it is on the other party.

when either of these does not happen there becomes the so-called "friend zone" it should not be cheered for whenever it's is broken because it should not exist in the first place.

Tada Banri was essentially just fufilling his duty as the interested party. no need to slap him with medals or adoration, i've put this into practice myself, sure it sucked for a bit, but you can maintain an uninterested/uninterested relation without it chaffing.

well, that true. But if you think of it, just on the night banri says he don't want to wait and to be friend with kouko, the NEXT day she resolve to confess her feeling toward Banri. Remember her reaction of Mitsuo confession toward chinami. And when she drunk that night she said lets badmouth Mitsuo. well it show she still in love with Mitsuo.

- Banri, i had mixed feelings about his actions in this episode. But i understand why he did all those things to Kouko and Linda.

With Banris luck Linda will probably confess her feelings to him too. Also I think Koko is fake my reasoning being that she just said she loved him because she was afraid of being so alone again. Also Banri messed up, stop running man. BTW I'm so tired of characters spilling out there emotions then running. I wonder if that's like a real thing in real life, people just running off after spilling there hearts out. In any case can't wait for the next episode, as of now I'm still betting that he ends up with Linda somehow.
