Maybe his father was a particularly powerful youmu?

I've wondered this as well. Maybe someone who's read the light novels can tell us.

I think that his father is Kyokai no Kanata itself or perhaps part of Kyokai no Kanata. But if other spirit hunters and the association know it why they didn't oppose his mother married with his father?

Another thing is that the defeated youmu always have a weakspot, they don't just die from hitting them just anywhere. I'm sure Akihito does as well, and then his origins aren't exactly known either.
