| I think that if you go and read the manga you can see what the author had in mind. In fact, the anime follows the manga very closely in this respect. Let's not say that Tomoko is ugly. That is a harsh word and nobody is ever going to use it seriously in real life. It is a stupid and rude word. However... I think that the key point is that if you look at the manga and the anime you will see that (1) Yuu-chan is very, very beautiful (2) Kii-chan is very, very beautiful. So the author is creating a huge contrast. I would say that Tomoko is "plain" or "average". When I went to high school, there were just a small number of girls who were very, very beautiful. They had the potential to go on to become fashion models or actresses. In real life, there ARE some people who are below "plain". I won't say "ugly", but there are certain people with specific medical conditions that affect their appearance or attractiveness. In some cases, this can be extreme. Tomoko is definitely not in that category. |

| Not really. We know she's actually quite a pretty girl, but she just doesn't really know how to properly take care of herself. When her estrogen levels were soaring, the bags under her eyes went away and she looked a lot prettier already. Imagine what she would've looked like if she combed her hair and tied it up in a ponytail then. |

| I agree, she is cute. I am attracted to girls with that body type though, so I guess my input may be a little bias. If she was a real girl, I would totally date her. While I was watching the anime, every time something bad happened to her and she starting crying I felt like reaching through the TV and comforting her. And then I think of the girls in real life who are the same as her, having to deal with similar issues, thinking that they are never going to get a boyfriend. And I just think; your wrong, there are guys who like girls like you, and one of them is typing this post right now so don't get so depressed... This anime was awesome. Not that many anime get me emotionally into it. I actually laughed out loud during this anime, something that I don't usually do. This anime was a 9.7 for me. This post was supposed to be short and simple, I don't know how it turned into this. I guess that is what happens when all you do during your free time is watch anime and play games.But I am sure that most people on this site does the exact same thing. |

| I think the idea is she's fairly normal looking besides her lack of sleep and sun. The whole dramatic issue in the series is that she suffers from anxiety and negative feelings about herself. (Personally I find her cute) |
