Damn, this was intense, definitely liking where this is going.

Intense episode overall still. I'm not too used to the CGI yet anyways but the action bits were damn entertaining. Takao ;.; Oop, wave motion cannon spotted. I also love some of the battleship transformation sequences.

Not too impressed by this series so far. The characters feel really stiff and emotionless. I hope we get some more exposition or character background soon too and less CGI battles.

That's how you win a maiden't heart: Through intricate batte tactics and strategic attacks. Job well done, Gunzou. I've already completely gotten used to the character designs and don't mind the occasional blank facial expressions. As long as they continue with sea battles it shouldn't be too hard to keep things interesing.

Loved it!

Seems like I've already gotten used to the CG. I expected it'll take me a few more eps but it wasn't that bad this ep.

Loved Takao. She's Hot! and cute (when she blushed) And it seems she joins the harem? XD She did say she wants that unit (Gunzou) XD

Anyway really nice battle. The strategies and animation was awesome. Gunzou is friggin BA. He looked like a BOSS when he was standing with Iona in front of Takao after defeating her ^^

I can't wait to see all the fog members. All of them seem pretty unique in the OP&ED. Their character design looks pretty too :)

i find it funny that the people are commenting so much on the blank faces when the ships mental models are actually Artificial intelligence beings so u would expect them to be a little blank dont u think, the side characters emotional appearance seems to be good at least and the MC has improved a bit mind u just a bit they really need to put more emotion unto him the most

Also it as a nice change of pace that this whole episode was dedicated for the entire battle especially at this early in the series because most anime series have there battles to about 30 sec to 2 min

Overall it is still good They still need to work on the character models but i believe they improved a little from the last episode

That was pretty cool with the ending using parts from the past battle. So the I-401 is gonna turn into a supersub.

Wow, one of the worst animations I've seen in a while. Too bad, naval combat is quite rare in anime, it would be nice to see this series made by some decent studio. It's hard to look at that horrible CG.

Characters are fine so far (nothing special but no one is irritating so far), battle was interesting and quite smart on both sides...

BUT
looking at it is painfull. Ships are fine by all mean (beams of light, things blowing up all is done well), people on the other side - when they use normal animation it's also fine but when they go into CGI it's horrible (maybe because of the difference between nice models and what we get here).

Either I get used to those CGI or another drop of the season.

Damn that Heavy Cruiser, that was my new pants.

That being said thou, lets get the all-so-hated CG out of the way; I still think it is brilliantly executed the way they made the ships and the action (thou those missile coming out of Takao's VLS, seems to big for ASW warfare, looks like SLBM to me, but whatdahack), I got a feeling that the producer are having fun animating the girls and the ships most as the male character(Gunzou and that orange-goggles guy)seem to be not up to par with the fluid animation of the females, but that could be just me.

OK that outta way, action! its pretty intense for even people like me that have read the manga, I like how the Superenditallgravitron cannon of Iona's (Hyuga's?) just so epic! and the sound effect(a real plus point in this show) when Takao prepares her Superenditallgravitron is just epic(almost Michael Bay). I think what I like most of the action is that there are some form of real naval tectics, having read some of Tom Clancy's submarine novel, I can confirm most of this are legitement and not some make-it-all-up thing we come to know in most sci-fi show, sadly this only appeals to naval fanetics like me, however rare are there in the anime community.

But I guess the main reason of why I watch this is how un-emotional'weapons' begin to develope emotions or humanism. Kongou is still the overly-sadistic-looking lady we all come to respect but Iona is just beginning to show some form of her humanism. And than we have the (jizz-in-the-pants) Tsundere character of our Heavy Cruiser darling, just ozzes with th potential character during her little Tea-time chat with the Battleship....Oh i am going to enjoy her alot. Its good news that the animator are able to animate the Tsun-ness of Takao which I am beginning to worry as the entire series has a little comedy relieve in it with the Heavy Cruiser comprising most of that role. The complained overly stiff CG may get in the way of expressing those moments but I find no fault during the French-tea-time scene.

Overall, its a great episode and really relieves some of my worry of the CG animating, now if you excuse me, I need find a Dakimakura of a certain warship online.

That was an awesome naval battle, although I think most battles like will always end with, the bigger the arms you have, the more bigger you blow things up and you will win. Especially with that supergravitational cannon.

No problems with CG, but I can see people are so turned off by it since they are not used to 3D type animation.

Is Gonzou going to get his own ship harem? Dear lord don't do this to me.

I actually had doubts about this anime at first but the battle scene was somewhat exciting for most part.

But whatever happens, please don't turn into a harem. If any of you watched Akikan you should know inanimate objects used to fight aren't suppose to form a harem with humans, if Ars Nova turns into something like that i'm done.

This went exactly like the manga which is nice, tho i would not have complained if there where some differences just happy this got a adoption.
And the see Takao animated is just great, just makes me wonder how the other characters will look.

This episode showed Chihaya's tactical capability nicely, last week also showed that he knew something about the submarine.
And now he is showing his use of weaponry nicely, have a lot to loo forward to.

I also liked the fight there where a few small thing with the translation tho, the mentioned big battleship class, while it's actually just battleship class which is the biggest class in warships.
Tho the battleship class was last build during WW2 since it's kind of a sitting duck if you don't have air superiority, the US used their battleships will into the 80s tho.
Then there was Takao's class Heavy destroyer second largest class in warships they are smaller and more manoeuvrable then battleships and currently the biggest warships to be used.
Generally destroyers are used to escort larger ships or to fight in convoy or group while battleships where used to keep control with there heave armour and weaponry.
During WW2 flight carriers took over that role from the battleships since the can keep air superiority.
Getting a bit off topic tho.

The story is a total mess. Only two major characters have been given a decent introduction and I have no idea what's happening outside of a vague understanding. Maybe it's that I'm too tired, but I have no idea what the hell's going on. Gunzou and the others are at some academy whilst humanity is at war with "The Fog." An AI with a body gives him a captured fog ship, he leaves with it, joins up with some guy in a suit, and he's now fighting The Fog while being considered an enemy of humanity as well? Can anyone explain the finer details to me?

I also really hate cgi anime. Some of the characters look decent when there's no movement, but as soon as they start moving they look like stuttering robots.

The academy Gunzou attended are teaching maritime knowledge. It's a way human want to preserve the knowledge and technology they have lest it would become extinct like unused language because every ships that travel too far to the sea would get attacked by the Fog.

i-401 used to be his father's ship after the capture, but the ship returned without the crew. Gunzou's father sided with the Fog. Gunzou then got branded as traitor because i-401 is claimed to be property of the country (he's stealing it).
After that, Gunzou travel the sea hunting Fog ships and act like mercenaries. Kamikage (the politician) is just his recent client.

But OT like this is fun :)

BTW, Takao is a Heavy Cruiser.
Then there's the Battleships like the Kongou sisters and big battleships like the Yamato sisters.

Gunzou was in military academy where are trained youth for future war with fog. When he touch I-401 hull (only captured ship of fog ever) , she activate and accept him as her master due being son of Chihaya Shouzo, assumed traitor of humanity. Gunzou then escape with I-401. Then two years lotter around and do odd jobs In these two years they also defeated battleship Hyuuga.

New odd job was protect start of space shuttle that transport new weapon that can damage fog. Guy in suit is minister secretary and guy who hired him for it. After shuttle is shot down he gives him another task. Transport last prototype of said weapon to america as japan doesn't have economical power mass produce it anymore

BTW...two questions:

First, does anyone know how the I-401 resupply its weapons, mainly the torpedoes and missiles? Since it's cut off from the rest of the fleet?

And second, does anyone know who's the Seiyuu for Watanuki Iori? It's not listed on MAL, and I can't seem to find it anywhere else. Just curious.

Thanks in advance.

Takao was defeated by I-401's super gravity cannon that they had tooken from another ship(Hyuuga).

She wasn't sunk though,Gunzou lets her go.Good thing too, cause she's the hottest and my favorite out of all the girls.

Takao retreats and wants a human unit abroad now.

Thought it was pretty BA,when Gunzou was just standing there with Iona right infront of Takao after defeating her.

Takao really was tsundere, especially during that tea party/meeting with dat blush(so cute :3).

The battle scene were pretty nice too,I guess.Still not fully use to the CG though.

Funniest beginning to a harem animation I have seen in a long while :-)

Agree. It also made this episode seem to fly by. It was already halfway done before I noticed. I liked that they explained Chihaya's reasoning, both in knowing they had the canon and that they had to have a submarine with them. It was also a good move to have Takao explain why she was defeated and have the other Fog leader both chastising her for her arrogance AND suspecting that there was more to Takao's behavior than Takao had explained. I LOVE shows with smart good guys and bad guys (which is really rarer than one thinks - stupidity is so much easier to write).

tingy said:

My guess is that his father felt the same way about the ships which is why Iona was willing to defect (at the cost of her memory (which probably ensured her loyalty to the Fog). That Chihaya sees them first as intelligent beings is going to be the key to this series. Of course the biggest question is who is leading the Fog, because they are not self-directing units, someone had to instruct them on this course. That I believe will be the main drama of this show.

I have to admit that after last week I had very low expectations of the show. That 2 out of 3 crew members were women, and all the ships mental units were women I expected an eventual harem series. But the writing and directing of this episode was superb. Great time management, and as I said above, funniest beginning to a harem (Takao viewing humans as "units") makes this show much better than I thought. Looking forward to seeing if they can maintain the momentum.
