You should try manga as well. Anime picked a bit different route, and changes aren't only for better. Actualy It seems best parts will not be in it.

Nano sings the closing theme~ Instant fan-girl.
Pretty strong start, I'll definetly try to keep up with this one. The CG wasn't bad, but it needs a little work to look a little less robotic. Though the surroundings of the characters looked great.

Well, it was good for what it was. Yes, the animation sucks on every character other than the main ones, and even then, there are times they look off. However, I enjoy the battle which look very good, and the plot is interesting. Though, I can't be the only one who thought that this was basically Code Geass but on the sea, with our main character who has a shady backstory, wants to change the status quo and is given power to do so by an alien ship before gathering his friends and followers to fight against the enemy that controls the world.

Yeah, this is a generic version of Code Geass, with no nearly as good writing or characters, and the animation pales in comparison. The music was good though.

I love these revolution stories and I like that all the ships are sentient. I will keep with this series, even if it looks as if the CGI was made about ten years ago.

Code Geass doesn't have half as good writing like Arpeggio. Ridiculous tactics, overblown characters and generaly it has as much quality as SAO.

And just to make clear this is more like first Macross or Gundam than Geass.

Nope, you guys aren't the only ones. The two even look like generic versions of Lelouch and CC. Also there's the fact that Iona is an alien who gives Gunzou the power to change the world's status quo. And Gunzou sort of leads a group of rebels/profiteers against the Fog Fleet empire that's taken over the world.

CG characters took me by surprise, but I'll get used to it. The story seems interesting and some of the AIs on the battleships look adorable. I wonder if some of them will join Gunzou's side.

"Gunzou... come aboard me." I feel childish for laughing at that.

I watch all three of those shows, and it's really closer to Geass. The fact that Geass is as popular as it is (I assure you that Arpeggio will never reach that level) isn't without a lot of people liking it. There definitely had to be something good in it to garner that level of audience on both sides of the ocean. The writing for Geass IMO is 20x better than anything that was uttered in this first episode. Nothing that was said about the plot was new or exciting, it was all stuff you've heard or seen before if you've seen any submarine or revolution anime.

Is Geass perfect, no, but it was very good.
I can understand if you didn't like it, but I have to disagree.

There is no revolution in this work and as you certainly know this is adaptation of already existing manga, which in metter of plot and characters already outclassed Geass long time ago. Unfortunetely it doesn't have humongeous mechas and other generic props that catch atention of youngest spectators.

unlike some shows that play just for effect Arpeggio is kind of work that take a time develope characters in believable manner and gradualy uncover plot threads.

Anime is going by it's own way, so there is no guarantee it will be that good, but it will have at least proper story, which can't be said about older sibling of Guilty Crown and Valvrave

After they went to school I was bored as fuck, about ready to fall asleep. The fights were pretty decent but yeah the cgi was also pretty ugly looking on the characters. Please keep characters 2D atleast.

The CG looked great for the battles, but I just couldn't watch the wooden character models. I like the story enough and love the concept, but one of the huge reason I watch anime is for the art. Won't be watching any more eps of this...

In the beginning it started off with lots of action which made it look pretty good. But then I started to notice some flaws as I watched. I don't like the art in this, it looks very stale/plain to me. Another is the animation flow, it isn't very clean, the character movements are...I don't really know the word for it...choppy?...awkward? I'm sure you have a understanding of what I'm talking about.
This was one of the titles that looks promising but seeing this episode I don't think it's going to meet those expectations. Now it is the first episode, as we go further in I may overlook those flaws and enjoy it more then I anticipated.

Prime example of CG done right! I'm not sure about the production studio, but they seemed to have either made, or had a hand in "Black Rock Shooter(TV)" which also demonstrated CG done right in it's other world scenes (Though from what I hear everything else about it was shit). The action scenes in this episode were a spectacle to behold, and I can't wait to see more of it.

I was about to complain a lot if I didn't hear nano at the end, that was the thing I looked forward to the most. I actually found this series by searching for nano's next single/album.
Other than that, not a bad start, we got to see some background as well as some action. The animation is kind of strange, but only because it's different, I don't consider it a bad thing. Another thing I like is the story, how communications are cut off (which would actually sound like a good idea for other series besides sci-fi), and the use of battleships and submarines. So, I hope this one will be good ^^

I don't mind the CGI, while of course I would prefer it being drawn, the CG looks quite impressive actually.

What worries me are the villians, they seems to be pretty shitty characters and the show could probably take a "enemy of the week format".

The OP is awesome though.

They did and also SANZIGEN is doing the CG in Miss Monochrome, so a 2 anime for good CG this season from the studio.

So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old?

I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them?

I wonder how long people would put up with this.

As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series.

The CGI was rather jarring at first, but I got used to it. I'd be lying if I said i wouldn't rather see this done with a more traditional animation technique. That said it was a pretty good episode so I'll follow it for now. I'm excited to see the awesome battles animated.
I did notice this episode was nothing like the first couple chapters. It seems to be before the manga starts, as the crew hasn't even come together in the I-401. The manga is still ongoing too. So this is either some kind of prequel to mid manga adaptation (as the name :Ars Nova might imply), or they're going for complete anime original.

...I don't know why but I'm pretty hyped for this. Is that a good thing or a bad thing? I picked up this series because the synopsis really interested me and it slightly exceeded my expectations.

So far I think it might be my favorite of the season and I'm definitely looking forward to the rest of the series.
Will I fall in love someday? I wonder?

Thoughts on this episode:
-Unique take on the whole naval warfare genre, these ships look like they should be in space
-I'm thinking this show is gonna have like one mental model/ship fight per week, looking forward to the fights
-Not liking using CGI to animate the characters, looks extremely unnatural especially in motion

The CGI was pretty nice, but I have mixed feelings in the way it's used on the characters. It can grow on me, but they feel choppy and robotic at times, lacking life to them.

In any case, I can forgive that. I like the action and genre. Will watch.

This. I have 1 major problem with this show, and 1 minor one.

The thing I hated the most is how they sexualize females. You can clearly see that they deliberately show the females' boobs and asses, in the ED sequence, and they just HAD TO MAKE THOSE SHIPS "female". We can never call male and female on equal ground, just based on that. How sad.

One minor problem is, how come the fleet consists of only children? They're the MC Gunzou dude's classmates, aren't they? Well that's not much of a problem, if they would just explain to us why did they betray humanity, I mean the rest of the crew.

The premise alone would probably work, but they just had to add in so many females for fanservices' sake, as some insurance. Sigh. I just hope that they don't make all the Mental Model females, for equality's sake
