Most depressing anime would be Guilty Crown.

Unbelievably, unbearable to watch. Only watched to the end with the mindset of
"I can hate the shit out of this anime once this is over"

But anyway Watamote isn't depressing -.-

I don't know maybe because I'm a big fan of Yozora from Haganai,
and this show is like an alternate version of Haganai where Yozora never meet Kodaka, and lives a tragic school life

That would be why it is depressing, not in what way it is depressing.

However, sounds like Welcome to the NHK.

Agreed. I struggled to see what makes this a comedy and why a lot of people think it's hilarious

Wow, I didn't know you are required to experience it first hand to feel for the characters in a fiction.

yeah, but the main character is also an idiot, which is kind of different from Watamote, which Tomoko has some kind of mental issue and tries to overcome it but fails everytime

I thought it was awkwardly funny sometimes too. If it tried to be depressing I'd say it failed horribly.

Someone described the manga as a gag manga, and said the anime fails to do it as effectively so it just looks depressing as they constantly fail or back out of situations. In NHK Satou goes through with things and actually changes bit by bit + he isn't always quiet. In principle its the same though.

After reading a few chapters of the manga, I do find the manga more light hearted and cartoonish comparing to the anime, which is IMO dark and realistic.
perhaps I shouldve watched it with the mind set of watching Tom and Jerry ==

You know? They're suppose to be friends but they're hurting each other and saying bad things to each? ( •_•)

Basically, the amount of love you can give this show is directly proportionate to how unrelatable you find Tomoko's situations to yourself in school and how long ago it was you went to school.; so yeah, I can see why some people find this not as funny while others might.

It was hilarious and depressing at the same time, it was more depressing than anything if you are a social outcast like me. I enjoyed it though, hope it has a second season, I find myself enjoying alot of the anime coming out less and less and only a few unique animes are even enjoyable to me anymore and watamote is one of the few new ones that I've enjoyed here lately.
im a computer loving, anime watching nerd and i could never be happier :D
