| ah....shit............my high school breaks in a nutshell fuck........and even if ever that part was trying to make the viewer feel "awkward," this is something sentimental for me Loved how this episode wasn't the usual crazy shit that goes on. It was depressing yet, there was a feel-good thing about it. Wtf Well, the end was really nice. Everything about the latter part excluding the mom interrupting. Jesus Christ that was a nice moment. Tomoko's femininity was being made apparent. Nice to know. And THAT was AWESOME how the start transitioned into the OP. Holy crap that was deliciosity amazingnessnessness |

| I think the first half (lunch part) was the saddest part of this episode. It just really showed how lonely she was, plus when she lost the desks :c. |

| I can't believe I let myself get wrapped up in that imagination scene...The whole time I'm thinking about how this could be a turning point for Tomoko, how this could jumpstart some personal growth, how mellow yet hopeful the insert song was...all to be brought back crashing back down to earth. I honestly cried at the end of the scene. I should've known better than thinking things work out at all for Tomoko in this show, but I wanted to hope. God, if Tomoko doesn't get some sort of growth or improvement of her situation by the end of this, I'll be sad beyond words. |
| What an incredibly creative way to transition to opening sequence! I was not expecting that, but I loved it. It's a shame that Tomoko shuts people out. I admit she isn't the extroverted type that would get along with the 'sluts', just imagining her at karaoke makes me cringe, but that group reached out to her. She could have easily became acquaintances at the very least. It wouldn't be Tomoko if she didn't think the worst and shut everyone out though. Her comment about how she hoped battle royale would start was funny already, her imagining herself as Mitsuko, the sexy one, that made it better. This was honestly a bittersweet episode. It was never very funny, or awfully cringy. It was this constant melancholy in between. I think we could see her trying more than normal this episode actually. She looked for clubs to join, tried to start her own, she criticized the festival but imagined it with a bloom effect on- maybe showing she actually wants a part of it and her middle school haunted house experience was too much for her to handle. She certainly seems to have tried especially hard back then. She ended up eating in the classroom, surrounded by desks to protect her from others, but also as a way to feel like she belonged there, or so I think. It was an episode of trying and contently failing. I liked the small happiness she got from the stuffed animal and the more than small joy she got from her desk throne until it was taken away. Tomoko felt different this episode, in a better way, even though she still fantasized about anime and applied those fantasies to real life, as did she escape and avoid social interaction. Good episode to somewhat subtly let us know how Tomoko was feeling through her actions. |
